The style which is created by grafting the characteristics of goth onto haute couture designer works is called 'Haute goth'. The purpose of this study is to analyze the modem Goth fashion style based on Goth's historical background and characteristics. Also, I investigated the aesthetic characteristics of haute goth style appeared from the work of haute couture designers. Goth means a member of East Germanic people who invaded and settled in the Roman Empire from the 3rd to the 5th century. Goth style had been developed to the medieval European architecture style or the literature style of 18th~19th centuries and later it was reappeared in the gothic band in the late 20th century. Goth fashion shows the characteristics of the medieval times and Victorian times mixed with punk and fetish style. Goth fashion is expressed with the images of fear, darkness, mystique, dandy and eroticism. 'Dark esthetics' is realized through black clothes, pale complexion and silver accessories. Many designers like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano designed 'haute goth fashion' in various ways. The characteristics of 'haute goth' can be summarized in four things. It creates new images, seeks various changes and pursuits newness. It upgrades a street look style gothic fashion to a luxury high fashion and the creative design with artistic value. It also shows an experimental sprit by using a unique shapes, silhouettes, different materials and extreme images or creating new combination through the mismatch of opposite objects or emotions. Although it is rooted in the past because of the influences by late medieval times, Victorian times and Edwardian times, it displays enough of future-oriented historicism designs.

This study evaluated the effects of the syllable number(one, two), font type(gothic, myung), color contrast (black on white, white on black), display type(paper, LCD), age(20s, 60s) and character size(2~80pt) on the Korean characters' legibility. Total twenty subjects from two age groups (20s: n=10, 60s: n=10, five male and five female in each group) participated in the legibility test. A target panel was presented in the distance of 50 cm, and subjects conducted a reading tests for, in total, 16 treatment conditions (full combination of syllable number, font type, color contrast and display type). Results showed that two-syllable words revealed better legibility than one-syllable character. The main effects of the age, display type, font type, color contrast, and character size were statistically significant(p<0.01). Paper showed better legibility than LCD, particularly in the 20s and in the character sizes of less than 9pt. Gothic revealed more correct answers than Myung, particularly in the 60s, paper, and white on black conditions. It is expected that these results can provide basic data for the determination of the Korean characters' minimum legible size standards. For example, the minimum legible size for the Gothic and black on white characters presented in the paper should be 5pt for 20s and 1lpt for 60s if the 75% correct reading(3 correct answers in this study) was applied for the legibility criterion.

일반적인 한글 자동 인식 방법은 세선화 과정을 통한 문자의 골격 추추르 기본자소의 분리 및 인식과정으로 이루어진다. 그러나 이 방법은 복잡한 세선화 과정이 필요하고 잡음에 민감하여 전처리 과정에서는 많은 처리가 필요하며 인식과정에서는 복잡성을 피할 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 고딕체 한글의 기본자소들이 윤곽선의 방향 성분들로서 표현이 가능함을 보이고, 복잡한 세선화 과정이 필요없는 윤곽선 방향 성분들의 추출 방법을 보이며, 추출된 윤곽선 방향 성분들로 한글 문자를 자동인식하는 방법을 제안하였다. 구성된 시스템은 전처리 과정이 매우 간단하며, 잡음에 민감하지도 않고 한글 문자의 윤곽선 방향 성분들을 매우 빠르게 추출하였다. 패턴이 인식 과정도 문자열 패턴매칭 방법으로 대치되어 매우 빠르고 정확하게 한글 문자를 인식해 내었다. 인식율은 92%정도 되었다.

과도한 치아의 마모는 수직 교합 고경의 감소를 야기하여 구강 및 저작계의 병적 변화를 일으킬수 있으며, 이 경우 새로운 교합 설정과 수직 고경 회복 시 정확한 진단과 분석이 필수적이다. 이에 본 증례에서는 고딕 아치 트레이서를 통해 거상된 수직고경에서의 중심위를 기록한 후 전악 수복을 시행하였다. 본 증례는 70세 남자 환자로서 이가 시리고 아파서 음식을 먹지 못한다는 주소로 내원하였다. 전반적인 치아 마모에 의한 수직고경의 감소를 보여 면밀한 모형분석을 통해 수직고경의 거상을 결정하였다. 거상된 수직고경에 맞춰 고딕 아치 트레이서를 이용하여 중심위 채득 후 임시 보철물을 장착하였다. 4개월 동안 임시 보철물을 통해 적절한 교합을 형성하였으며 이를 이용하여 최종 보철을 제작하였다. 치료를 통해 기능적, 심미적으로 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었기에 이를 보고하는 바이다.

우리는 무엇인가를 보고 아름답다고 말하는 것은 익숙하지만 숭고하다는 표현은 자주 사용하지 않는다. 사실 아름답다는 것과 숭고하다는 것은 다른 의미이며 숭고의 대상은 따로 존재한다. 숭고론은 롱기누스를 시작으로 버크, 칸트에 이르기 까지 개념과 대상에 대한 깊이 있는 연구가 이루어져왔다. 이들의 연구에 따르면, 우리는 공포의 대상으로부터 숭고미를 느낄 수 있는데 그것은 공포감 속에 숭고함이 내재되어 있기 때문이다. 이에 본 연구는 고딕소설로 분류되는 "에밀리를 위한 장미"에 표현된 숭고미를 고찰해보았다. 작품 속에 묘사된 에밀리의 칙칙한 철회색 머리카락과 붉은 피를 상징하는 빨간 장미, 그리고 그녀의 검은 옷은 어둡고 엄숙한 분위기의 숭고미를 표현하며, 떠난 호머를 기다리고 그리워하는 에밀리의 모습, 마지막으로 숨진 채 누워있는 호머의 모습 자체는 공포의 분위기를 일으킴과 동시에 비극적 숭고함을 보여준다. 고딕소설 뿐 아니라 모든 문학 장르에서 숭고함의 표현은 찾아볼 수 있으므로, 앞으로 여러 문학 분야에서 숭고미에 대한 연구와 분석이 이루어질 것이다.

비기능적 습관을 가진 환자는 턱관절 장애, 저작 근육의 근막통증증후군 등과 함께 치아의 광범위한 마모를 유발한다. 지속되는 교모는 수직교합고경의 감소를 동반하게 되며 이는 안모의 변화, 저작 효율 저하, 측두하악 관절 장애 등의 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 이런 수직교합고경 감소 환자의 3차원적인 교합 회복과 재구성을 위해서는 정확한 진단 및 분석과 예지성 있는 치료계획 수립이 필요하며, 생리적인 수직교합고경의 회복 및 정상적인 교합평면 재설정을 동반한 보철치료가 필요하다. 본 증례는 구강 악습관에 의한 전반적인 치아의 마모와 저작근의 불편감, 그리고 수직교합고경 감소로 인한 심미적 불만족을 호소하는 환자의 수직교합고경 증가를 동반한 완전 구강 회복 증례이다. 교합안정장치를 통한 측두하악관절의 안정과 고딕아치 기록장치를 이용한 악간관계 재설정 및 임시 수복물을 통한 경과 관찰을 통해 기능적, 심미적으로 좋은 결과를 보였기에 이를 보고하고자 한다.

중심위는 교합적, 교정적, 보존적 관점에서 진단과 치료에 중요한 요소이며, 중심위에 대한 정의와 채득방법에 대하여서는 학자들마다 다양하게 주장하고 있다. 중심위를 채득하는 방법에는 여러 가지가 있고 임상적으로 가장 중요한 부분 중 하나가 재현성과 정확성을 확보하는 것이다. 이에 저자는 중심위 채득시 하악 과두의 운동접번축(kinematic axis)을 인식하는 Arcus $Digma^{(R)}$의 EPA test를 이용하여 중심위 채득 방법에 따른 재현성을 비교하였다. 구강 악안면계의 기능이상이 없으며 교합이 정상이고 치아의 교모 및 마모가 심하지 않은 성인 10명를 대상으로 5가지 중심위 채득 방법 (Self-guided method, Bimanual manipulation, Chin-point guidance, Leaf gauge method, Gothic arch tracer)에 따른 중심위의 재현성을 Arcus $Digma^{(R)}$를 이용하여 비교 연구한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 중심위 채득 방법에 따라 하악과두의 위치는 상이한 양상을 나타냈다. 둘째, 재현성은 bimanual manipulation이 가장 높게 나타났으며 다음으로 chin point guidance, Gothic arch tracer, leaf gauge를 이용한 방법 그리고 unguided method 순이었다. 셋째, 임상에서 양손조작법이나 chin-point guidance이 재현성면에서 비교적 매우 훌륭한 방법이라는 것을 미루어 알 수 있다.

Since 2010, Goth styles have risen rapidly in prominence as one of the major trends of fashion. This study intends to understand the Goth style shown from the modern fashion by examining its historically formative characteristics and internal meanings of the Goth style. With mystic attitude toward the medieval Gothic culture, Goth style refers to its reproduction over the cultural circles including music, literature and arts. From the result of the historical review, the formative characteristics of the Goth style may be divided into darkness, distortion, memento mori and bricolage. The historical review of the Goth style contains symbolic meaning of mystery, terror, escape and theatricality. After 2000, Goth style, in combination with factors such as postmodernism and human desire, has been established as the main trend of modern fashion, going with the popular culture. The formativeness of modern Goth fashion is the same as that of Goth style examined from the historic review. However, in modern Goth fashion, the symbolic meaning has the processes of the new: unconsciousness, kitsch, overthrow and popularity.
