  • Today, use of high resolution satellite image with at least 1m resolution is expanding into many more areas including forest, river way, city, seashore and so forth for disaster prevention. Interest in this medium is increasing among the general public due to the roll-out to the private sector as Google earth, Virtual Earth and so forth. However, pre-processing process that revises the geometrical distortion that result at the time of photographing is required in order to use high resolution satellite image. The purpose of this research is to search the most accurate GCP(Ground Control Point) information acquisition method that is used for the revision of high resolution satellite image's geometrical distortion through automated processing. Through this, it is possible to contribute to increasing the level of accuracy at the time of high resolution satellite image revision and to secure promptness.

  • This study investigated six teachers who used the lessons utilizing geospatial technologies including GPS and Google Earth. The lessons were designed to ask students to solve problems with the technologies rather than to teach students to just use technology and teachers to function more as a facilitator. Key findings include: (1) The teachers with background and interest in learner-centered teaching were more effective in implementing the lessons with their students while the teachers who were familiar with teacher-centered instruction often reduced learners' roles in the lesson; (2) Generally, students expressed huge interests in the lessons. Changes in attitude and participation toward lessons were more clearly observed from low achievers and passive learners; (3) Key influencing factors in adoption of lessons utilizing geospatial technologies were school culture toward innovativeness, characteristics of school administrators, learning experience of the lessons during the workshops, and support systems for lesson preparation and implementation.

  • Seasonal changes in river water vary seasonally as well as locationally, and the assessment is essential. In this study, we used the recent technique of post-classification by using the Google earth engine (GEE) to map the seasonal changes in Mahanadi river of Odisha. However, some fixed problems results during the rainy season that affects the livelihood system of Cuttack such as flooding, drowning of children and waste material deposit. Therefore, this study conducted 1) to map and analyse the water density changes and 2) to analyse the seasonal variation of river water to resolve and prevent problem shortcomings. Our results showed that nine types of variation can be found in the Mahanadi River each year. The increase and decrease of intensity of surface water analysed, and it varies in between -130 to 70 ㎥/nf. The highest frequency change is 2900 Hz near Cuttack city. The pi diagram provides the percentage of seasonal variation that can be observed as permanent water (30%), new seasonal (28%), ephemeral (12%), permanent to seasonal (7%) and seasonal (10%). The analysis is helpful and effective to assess the seasonal variation that can provide a platform for the development of Cuttack city that lies in Mahanadi delta.

  • According to the growing interest in the digital convergence throughout society, the convergence of creative and new forms is emerging recently in various fields. Research methods to explore the diversity of academic studies have been studied in the field of study. As one of these methods, research on electronic cultural atlas that has features of convergence studies is gradually spreading. In this paper, we examine existing electronic cultural atlas and then, compare and analyze them. In details, existing electronic cultural atlas are comparative analyzed on the basis of base map, interface, and function. Through the results of comparative analysis, the efficient production of electronic cultural atlas are examined.

  • IMO adopt the revision of SOLAS convention on requirement systems for ECDIS and considered an ECDIS as the major system for E-Navigation strategy on marine transportation safety and environment protection. ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) as base map of ECDIS is considered as a principal information infrastructure that is essential for navigation tasks. But ENCs are not easy to utilize because they are encoded according to ISO/IEC 8211 file format, and ENCs is required to utilize in parts of Marine GIS and various marine application because they are used for navigational purpose mainly. Meanwhile Google earth is satellite map that Google company service, is utilized in all kinds of industry generally providing local information including satellite image, map, topography, 3D building information, etc. In this paper, we developed KML conversion technology for ENC application. details of development contents consist of ENC loading module and KML conversion module. Also, we applied this conversion technology to Korea ENC and evaluated the results.

  • In this study, we propose a method to monitor the surface area of agricultural reservoirs in South Korea using Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar images and the deep learning model, Swin Transformer. Utilizing the Google Earth Engine platform, datasets from 2017 to 2021 were constructed for seven agricultural reservoirs, categorized into 700 K-ton, 900 K-ton, and 1.5 M-ton capacities. For four of the reservoirs, a total of 1,283 images were used for model training through shuffling and 5-fold cross-validation techniques. Upon evaluation, the Swin Transformer Large model, configured with a window size of 12, demonstrated superior semantic segmentation performance, showing an average accuracy of 99.54% and a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 95.15% for all folds. When the best-performing model was applied to the datasets of the remaining three reservoirsfor validation, it achieved an accuracy of over 99% and mIoU of over 94% for all reservoirs. These results indicate that the Swin Transformer model can effectively monitor the surface area of agricultural reservoirs in South Korea.

  • Open Data Cube(ODC) has been emerging and developing as the open source platform in the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites(CEOS) for the Global Earth Observation System of Systems(GEOSS) deployed by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), ODC can be applied to the deployment of scalable and large amounts of free and open satellite images in a cloud computing environment, and ODC-based country or regional application services have been provided for public users on the high performance. This study first summarizes the status of ODC, and then presents concepts and some considering points for linking this platform with Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) images. For the reference, the main contents of ODC with the Google Earth Engine(GEE) were compared. Application procedures of KOMPSAT satellite image to implement ODC service were explained, and an intermediate process related to data ingestion using actual data was demonstrated. As well, it suggested some practical schemes to utilize KOMPSAT satellite images for the ODC application service from the perspective of open data licensing. Policy and technical products for KOMPSAT images to ODC are expected to provide important references for GEOSS in GEO to apply new satellite images of other countries and organizations in the future.

  • Natural shifting of rivers has been disturbed by anthropological activities. Urbanization in Kathmandu has been encroached the natural floodplain of Bagmati and currently channeled by training walls. The study compares the change in shape of Dhobikhola, a small tributary using 1966 and 2014 satellite images. It has been found that the original shape is heavily changed over time at the beginning and end section of river under study. The river width is now fixed by training walls and roads along the banks. Using multiple data sets like satellite images and GIS analysis, these shifts can be easily detected to plan for management and restoration of physical and ecological behaviors of rivers.
