  • A grading system is implemented to evaluate the meat quality of Hanwoo. In the grading system, grade 1++A is the highest grade. Livestock farms breed Hanwoo with good quality feed in order to obtain the highest grade. In this process, the content ratios of muscles in individual regions can be changed. To find out the muscle distribution ratios of Hanwoo steers, grade 1A, 1+A, and 1++A Hanwoo steers were compared with grade 1+A Hanwoo female. Grade 1A Hanwoo steers had higher ratios of shank (SK), brisket and flank (BF), neck chain (NC), and inside skirt (IS) meats and a lower ratio of striploin (SL) meat compared to grade 1+A Hanwoo feamle. Grade 1++A Hanwoo steers had higher ratios of neck (NK) and loin (LN) meats and lower ratios of inside skirt (IS), tenderloin (TL), top round (TR), eye round (ER), bottom round (BR), bottom sirloin triangle (BST), and knuckle (K) meats compared to grade 1+A Hanwoo steers. In comparison between grade 1A and 1++A Hanwoo steers, the ratio of shank (SK) was significantly lower in higher quality meats. If the changes are continuously studied to improve the process so that the ratios of partial meats of the regions highly preferred by consumers can increase, it will contribute to increases in the incomes of livestock farms and enable Hanwoo to grow into a global brand.

  • Two patients were admitted with chief complaints of exertional dyspnea and palpitation respectively. Physical examination showed Grade III and Grade II to III systolic rumbling murmur at apex in each case. Chest X-ray and EKG findings were compatible with mitral insufficiency in both cases. The diseased valves were replaced with Beall mitral valve prosthesis under cardiopulmonary bypass using hemodilution technic. The first patient died of asphyxia due to tracheomalacia complicated after tracheostomy 3 months after operation and the 2nd patient was discharged in good condition one month after operation-Autopsy of the 1st patient showed no thrombus formation, no disc variance, and good epithelization of valve cuffs. In the second case clinical improvement was remarkable with decreased heart size.

  • The Geum river being used as drinking water sources has contaminated due to inflow of inadequately treated wastewater from the tributaries into the river. The characteristics of water quality in the upper regions showed good grade(BOD<3mg/L) in the Geum river, the Mankyung river and the Dongjin river, while that in the lower regions and the upper region of the Sapkyo river did not achieve the good grade. This resulted in the inflow of domestic, industrial and livestock wastewater not adequately treated by wastewater treatment systems. For lakes, the mouth of the kyungchun lake, the Sapkyo lake and the Yedane lake showed the eutrophication phenaminon with higher COD concentration. In particular, total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a concentration were higher in the Sapkyo lake than other lake.

  • Polyester fabrics were irradiated by UV produced by the low pressure mercury lamp. UV irradiation broke a C-H bond of PET fiber and caused the carbonyl groups on the fiber surfaces. Surface modification of PET fibers were accelerated by pretreatment with methanol, ethanol and acetone. The irradiated PET was dyed with basic dyes having cationic groups. The dye uptakes were proportional to irradiation times, and in inversely proportional to irradiation distances. The tensile strengths of PET fabrics decreased by UV irradiation. Washing fastness of PET dyeings were good, about 4-5 grade, andlightfastnesswerepoor, about l grade.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship of logical thinking skills and integrated process skills, and to investigate the differences in general tendency of subskills by grade level and gender between Korean middle school students and Japanese one. The performance level of skills was measured using GALT and TIPS II. The results are compared with those of Japan (Mattheis et al., 1992). Summary of the results are as follow. 1. Percentages of formal and transitional stage of males are more than females in developmental level. It has been found out that the males attained significantly higher scores of logical thinking skills than the females in middle school stage. The significant differences in scores by gender show a good correlation with those for Japanese middle school students. Developmental level of Korean middle school students shows a remarkable improvement as they move up from 8th grade to 9 one. The significant differences in developmental level by grade also show a good correlation with those for Japanese middle school students. Total scores of GALT for Japanese middle school students are higher than Korean one, but it has been found nearly same scores for 9th grade in both countries. Scores of subskills of logical thinking skills, except correlational reasoning, for Korean students show lower than those for Japanese students. It could be noted that the combinatorial reasoning is considered to be easiest and the correlational reasoning to be most difficult in both countries. 2. It also has been found out similar pattern for integrated process skills in both countries because the males and females did not examplify significant differences, although males gain somewhat higher scores than females in Korea. Scores of subskills of integrated process skills for Japanese middle school students show higher them Korean one. It could be noted that the identifying variables is considered to be easiest and stating hypothesis to be most difficult in both countries. 3. There was a significant relationship (r= .65) between logical thinking skills and integrated process skills, and there were statistically significant differences of the integrated process skills for developmental level. In integrated process skills, the students who belong to the higher grade levels acquired better score than who belong to the lower grade level. It has been also found remarkable improvement between 8th and 9th grade, and there are significant differences for grade level in both countries.

  • This study was done to compare college adjustment and life stress of nursing students by grades in Korea. A total of 417 participants were recruited using a convenient sampling method. Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaire from October 15 to October 30, 2019. The results of the study showed that the college adjustment of nursing students was significantly higher in 4th grade (3.45 ± 0.53) than 1st grade (3.18 ± 0.61). Life stress was highest in first grade (0.91 ± 0.46), followed by fourth grade, second grade, and third grade. college adaptation and life stress by grade were inversely correlated in all grades. Therefore, it is necessary to check the difference between college adaptation and life stress according to grade level, and to prepare customized programs according to the grades, so that students can make a good college adjustment through stress management of nursing college students.

  • Purpose : Traditional herbal medicines may be overused in Korea. Expenditures and inaccuracies of hospital prescription are increasing gradually. So we investigated the frequency and nature of herbal medicine use among elementary school pupils. Methods : We interviewed students of three elementary schools located in Gwangju with survey papers. We analyzed 905 returned surveys. Results : They consisted of 421 males and 484 females. Five hundred ninety (65.2 percent) of pupils who have taken herbal medicines since birth. First grade made up 74.1 percent, 2nd grade 63.0 percent, 3rd grade 64.8 percent, 4th grade 63.3 percent, 5th grade 65.5 percent, and sixth grade 61.9 percent, respectively. The mean frequency of herbal medicine use was 3.2 times. 6th grade was 3.3 times, 5th grade 3.9 times, 4th grade 3.7 times, 3rd grade 2.7 times, 2nd grade 2.7 times, and 1st grade 2.6 times, respectively. The mean cost of herbal medicine use was from 50,00-100,000 won. The mean age of pupils who took their 1st herbal medicine was 55 months, 6th grade 67 months, 5th grade 58 months, 4th grade 54 months, 3rd grade 55 months, 2nd grade 51 months, and 1st grade 47 months. The most common reason of herbal medicine use was "looking weak, without disease." The rate of elementary pupils who had good effects was 63.7 percent; the rate of side effects was 4.5 percent. Conclusions : The rate of elementary pupils who took herbal medicines was high and gradually higher in lower grades. So, clinicians have to cope directly with this situation and to educate parents about herbal medicines.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the inte actions between recipients and embryos to compare pregnancy rates in bovine embryo transfer, such as synchrony and stage of embryos, synchrony and quality of embryos, synchrony and side of uterine horn, and preservation time and stage of embryos. Fifty-two embryos were transferred by surgically to 42 Holstein heifers, 3 Holstein cows and 7 Korean native heifers from Feb., 1985 to June, 1986. The results were as follows: 1. In the trial of interactions between synchrony and embryo stage, recipients synchronired from- hours to + 12 hours in synchrony and embryos from morulac stage to advanced blastoctyst stages showed reason able pregnancy rate. 2. Excellant (A) and good (B) grade embryos showed good pregnancy rate, 81.8% and 73.3% respectively, but fair (C) grade embryos showed poor, 25% only at the same boundary of recipient synchrony. 3. More recipients had corpus luteum on the right ovary than the left, and also had better pregnancy rate (26/32 vs 13/20,81.3% vs 65%). 4. A good pregnancy rates (over 60%) were obtained with the embryo transferred 17hrs after flush at room temperature or field condition in culture medium.

  • This study analyze the relationships between game and adolescent's happiness. By survey of middle school and high school students in Pusan, this study want to find how playing game influences the happiness of middle school and high school students. In result, playing game and having a good grade influences adolescent's happiness. But whether one is good at game and how long one plays game are not the factors which influences adolescent's happiness. The adolescents who play game are more happier than the adolescents who don't play game. And playing game is more important factor to adolescent's happiness than having a good grade.
