  • 'Sunjung', a new variety of golden oyster mushroom was bred in Mushroom Research Institute, Gyeonggido Agricultural Research & Extension Services in 2006. This oyster mushroom was selected one which mate with monokaryon collected from KME20064 and KME20066. The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was about 26 ~$28^{\circ}C$ and that for the primordia and growth of fruitbody was about $18{\sim}23^{\circ}C$. Compared to the control which took 25 days of incubation period, Sunjung required 21~22days. It grew primordia after developed a lump of mycelium. In the characteristics of fruit body, pileus was infundibuliform of yellow-color and stripe was slender/long shape of white color. The yield was 112.9g/850cc bottle and 275.5g/2kg P.P bag.

  • Flammulina velutipes, known as winter mushroom or Enokitake, is an important edible mushroom in Korea. In 2017, approximately 28,000 tons of this mushroom were produced in Korea, putting its output at the third place, behind the oyster and king oyster mushrooms. Despite its high production, F. velutipes has the lowest distribution rate of domestic cultivars, estimated to be about 28 percent. To increase the income of farms and provide more options to consumers, we developed a new golden domestic cultivar 'Auram'. 'Auram' was bred by mating two monokaryotic strains isolated from ASI 4103 and ASI 4111. Auram has bright golden, hemispheric shaped caps, and light brown stipes, making it strikingly different from the control. The optimum mycelial growth temperature was 25℃, but Auram mostly displayed higher mycelial growth than the control in a wide range of temperatures. The yield of Auram (257.4 ± 13.5 g) was high, and the period of fruit body growth was also a couple of days ahead in bottle cultivation, compared with the control. Auram received a more favorable evaluation from farms and distributors than the control for its appearance, because the fruit body of Auram had an attractive golden color, and the spotted cap often seen in the control was not observed.

  • A new commercial strain "Gumbit" of golden oyster mushroom was developed by hyphal anastomosis. It was improved with hybridization between monokaryotic strain derived from ASI 2295 and ASI 2703. The optimum temperature of mycelial growth and fruiting body development were $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and $19{\sim}24^{\circ}C$, respectively. The pileus was golden to brilliant yellow color. Commercial strain "Gumbit" was not as prolific as the more commonly cultivated Pleurotus ostreatus in the conversion of substrate mass to mushrooms. However, cultivator can save money for mushroom growing on high-temperature season as like summer in Korea. Since picking individual mushrooms is tedious and often damages the fragile fruiting bodies compared with other species of oyster mushrooms.

  • The Oyster mushroom is saprophytic fungus. The pileus is stemmed at the side and later depressed. It grows to 5-15 cm, and is of grey, grey-lilac, blackish-grey, steel grey, grey-brown, and blue-blackish. Various kinds of Oyster mushrooms such as golden, pink, brown, grey, white, and blue make marketing an interesting challenge depending upon the market niche. A new commercial strain "Chung" of oyster mushroom was developed by hyphal anastomosis. It was improved with hybridization between monokaryotic strain derived from Pleurotus ostreatus ASI 2194 and ASI 2487. The pileus of parental strain ASI 2194 and ASI 2487 was grey and light blue-grey, respectively. Most of intra-specific hybrids between strain ASI 2194 and ASI 2487 were showed similar pileus color of parents. By the way, the pileus color of variety 'Chung' was blue to bluish grey. The optimum temperatures of mycelial growth and fruiting body development was $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and $12{\sim}16^{\circ}C$, respectively.
