In this paper, we reported the current limiting properties of superconducting fault current limiters (SFCL). Our SFCL was patterned in a coil-type on a YBCO film deposited using rf sputtering techniques and was coated with a gold shunt layer in order to disperse the heat generated at hot spots in the YBCO film. Current increased up to 13.5 Apeak at 60 Hz for the voltage of 11.5 Vpeak, which is the minimum quench point, and increased up to 17.6 Apeak at 60 Hz for the voltage of 80 Vpeak. The quench completion time was 5 msec at 11.5 Vpeak and 4 msec at 80 Vpeak respectively. We think that this architecture using coil-type SFCL can be useful for the protection of the power delivery systems from fault currents.

We fabricated a resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) of a meander type based on a YBCO film with the meander cross section of 5 $\times$$10^{-6}$$cm^2$, and performed current limitation experiments. The film was coated quench current was 9.6 Apeak at 60 Hz, and the fast quench time was 0.63 msec. The resistance of the limiter continuously increased for three cycles dut to the temperature rise in the gold layer. The temperature of the current limiting element reached the room temperature in 11 msec, $150^{\circ}C$ in 54 msec after quench, and was saturated afterwards. For $45^{\circ}$and $90^{\circ}$faults the fast quench times were 0.56 msec and 0.26 msec, respectively. The quench time is believed to be reduced because the fault occurred when the current was either increasing or at the peak value. This limiter effectively limited the fault current to about 1/5 of the potential current with no SFCL right after the fault and to about 1/8.5 in three cycles. We confirmed that the gold layer effectively carried out the role of heat dissipation as the SFCL was quenched.
$TiO_2$ thin films were spin coated on commercial Nickel-Silver with 2%Ti-naphthanate toluene solution by sol-gel process. The thin films were heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2min and then decorative-protective coating was obtained. The conditions for gold colored coating, and the morphology, microstructure and color of the coating surface were have been characterized by Optical microscope, Photospectrometer and XRD. The heating temperature of colored-$TiO_2$ coating was $500^{\circ}C$ and was preferable. The average thickness of 1 time coating was $0.24{\mu}m$ and the total thickness increased linearly as a function of the coating time. The color of amorphous colored-$TiO_2$ coating was changed from gold to dark redish gold with coating time. 'L' as lightness and 'b' were decreased to red, but 'a' was decreased to blue after increase with coating time.
ITO thin films and gold (Au), copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) intermediate ITO multilayer (ITO/Au/ITO, ITO/Cu/ITO, ITO/Ni/ITO) films were deposited on glass substrates with a reactive radio frequency and direct current magnetron sputtering system and then the effect of intermediate metal layer and annealing temperature on the methanol gas sensitivity of ITO films were investigated. Although both ITO and ITO/metal/ITO (IMI) film sensors have the same total thickness of 100 nm, IMI sensors have a sandwich structure of ITO 50 nm/metal 10 nm/ITO 40 nm. The change in the gas sensitivity of the film sensors caused by methanol gas ranging from 100 to 1000 ppm was measured at room temperature. The IAI film sensors showed the higher sensitivity than the other sensors. Finally, it is concluded that the ITO 50/Au 10/ITO 40 nm film sensors hasthe potential to be used as improved methanol gas sensor.

In this work, a CPW resonator was designed and fabricated to investigate the basic microwave properties, such as effective dielectric constant, of BST thin films. Their properties were used as basic data to simulate and design CPW tunable bandpass filter. We also report on gold/$Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$(BST) ferroelectric thin film C-band tunable bandpass filters(BPFs) designed and fabricated on magnesium oxide substrates using CPW structure. The 2 pole filter was designed for a center frequency of 5.88 GHz with a bandwidth of 9 %. The BST based CPW filter offers a high sensitivity parameter as well as a low loss parameter. The tuning range for the bandpass filter with CPW structure was determined to be 170 MHz.

We investigated the quench characteristics of meander line type resistive superconducting fault current limiters based on YBCO thin films grown on 2" diameter LaAlO$_3$ substrates. A gold layer was deposited onto the 0.4 ${\mu}$ m thick YBCO film to disperse the heat generated at hot spots, prior to patterning into 1 mm wide meander lines by photolithography. The limiters were tested with simulated fault currents of various amplitudes. The quench started at 10 A and was completed within 1 msec at the fault current of 65 A$_{peak}$. The dynamic quench characteristics were explained based on the heat conduction within the film and the heat transfer between the film and the surrounding liquid nitrogen. The heat transfer coefficient per unit area was estimated to be 3.0 W/cm$^2$K.
This paper proposes a specific sensor-design strategy and the possibility of improving the sensing performance, which can be obtained by replacing part of the existing plasmonic sensor based on the Kretschmann configuration method with an effective refractive-index layer. By replacing the metal layer with an effective refractive-index layer composed of gold and the material to be sensed, an improvement in the detection performance, accompanied by an increase in the sensed incident angle, is observed, and the gold-composition ratio that demonstrates the best result is presented. Subsequently, an increase in the sensed incident angle generated in the previous step can be suppressed by randomly etching a portion of the prism adjacent to the metal layer in a sub-wavelength scale. Finally, this study analyzes the optimization of the metal-layer thickness in a given sensor structure. An effective refractive thin-film surface plasmon resonance sensor design that can achieve optimal sensing performance is then proposed.

We describe a novel method of scanning probe nanofabrication using a AFM(atomic force microscopy) tip with assistance of Femtosecond laser pulses to enhance fabrication capability. Illumination of the AFM tip with ultra-short light pulses induces a strong electric field between the tip and the metal surface, which allows removing metal atoms from the surface by means of field evaporation. Quantum simulation reveals that the field evaporation is triggered even en air when the induced electric field reaches the level of a few volts per angstrom, which is low enough to avoid unwanted thermal damages on most metal surfaces. For experimental validation, a Ti: sapphire Femtosecond pulse laser with 10 fs pulse duration at 800 nm center wavelength was used with a tip coated with gold to fabricate nanostructures on a thin film gold surface. Experimental results demonstrate that fine structures with critical dimensions less than ${\sim}10nm$ can be successfully made with precise control of the repetition rate of Femtosecond laser pulses.

In this study, ultra thin films of ferroelectric vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene (VF2-TrFE) copolymer were fabricated on degenerated Si (n+, $0.002\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) using by spin coating method. A 1~5 wt% diluted solution of purified vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene (VF2:TrFE=70:30) in a dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent were prepared and deposited on silicon wafers at a spin rate of 2000~5000rpm for 30 seconds. After annealing in a vacuum ambient at $200^{\circ}C$ for 60 min, upper gold electrodes were deposited by vacuum evaporation for electrical measurement. X-ray diffraction results showed that the VF2-TrFE films on Si substrates had $\beta$-phase of copolymer structures. The capacitance on $n^+$-Si(100) wafer showed hysteresis behavior like a butterfly shape and this result indicates clearly that the dielectric films have ferroelectric properties. The typical measured remnant polarization (2Pr) and coercive filed (EC) values measured using a computer controlled a RT-66A standardized ferroelectric test system (Radiant Technologies) were about $0.54\;C/cm^2$ and 172 kV/cm, respectively, in an applied electric field of ${\pm}0.75\;MV/cm$.

Purpose: HCD ion plating apparatus by hollow cathod discharge method was fabricated and TiN films were deposited on stainless steel by this apparatus with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow and the fine color changes of TiN films were analyzed. Methods: The spectroradiometer and spectrophotometer were used to observe optically the fine color changes of TiN thin films, and XPS was used to analyze the compositions of TiN thin films with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow. Results: The color coordinate of TiN thin film with $N_2$ 120 sccm gas flow showed (0.382, 0.372) which had the mixed colors of gold and silver, and the color coordinate changed to the increasing value of (x,y) with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow which indicated the deep gold color. It was found that the slopes of the reflectances at 550nm were increased with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow. And from the Ti scans using XPS, it was found that the peak heights of 455 eV derived from TiN composition were increased with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow, while the peak heights of 459 eV from $TiO_2$ composition were decreased. Conclusions: The results obtained above were that the color of TiN film with 120 sccm $N_2$ gas flow had been observed from the mixed color of silver and gold due to TiC, $N_2$, TiN on the surface and TiN, $N_2$ inside film, and the color of TiN films changed a deep gold color with increasing in $N_2$ gas flow due to increasing TiN composition.
