  • An agent-centric event planning method is proposed for providing pedagogical experiences in an immersed environment. Two-level planning is required at in a macro-level (i.e., inter-event level) and an intra-event level to provide realistic experiences with the objective of learning declarative knowledge. The inter-event (horizontal) planning is based on search, while intra-event (vertical) planning is based on hierarchical decomposition. The horizontal search is dictated by several realistic types of association between events besides the conventional causality. The resulting schematic plan is further augmented by conditions associated with those agents cast into the roles of the events identified in the plan. Rather than following a main story plot, all the events potentially relevant to accomplishing an initial goal are derived in the final result of our planning. These derived events may progress concurrently or digress toward a new main goal replacing the current goal or event, and the plan could be merged or fragmented according to their respective lead agents' intentions and other conditions. The macro-level coherence across interconnected events is established via their common background world existing a priori. As the pivotal source of event concurrency and intricacy, agents are modeled to not only be autonomous but also independent, i.e., entities with their own beliefs and goals (and subsequent plans) in their respective parts of the world. Additional problems our method addresses for augmenting pedagogical experiences include casting of agents into roles based on their availability, subcontracting of subsidiary events, and failure of multi-agent event entailing fragmentation of a plan. The described planning method was demonstrated by monitoring implementation.

  • This paper introduces a new multi-product multi-period multi-objective aggregate production planning problem. The proposed problem is modeled using multi-objective mixed-integer mathematical programming. Three objective functions, including minimizing total cost, maximizing customer services level, and maximizing the quality of end-product, are considered, simultaneously. Several constraints such as quantity of production, available time, work force levels, inventory levels, backordering levels, machine capacity, warehouse space and available budget are also considered. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be qualitative and modeled using fuzzy sets. Then, a fuzzy goal programming approach is proposed to solve the model. The proposed approach is applied on a real-world industrial case study of a color and resin production company called Teiph-Saipa. The approach is coded using LINGO software. The efficacy and applicability of the proposed approach are illustrated in the case study. The results of proposed approach are compared with those of the existing experimental methods used in the company. The relative dominance of the proposed approach is revealed in comparison with the experimental method. Finally, a data dictionary, including the way of gathering data for running the model, is proposed in order to facilitate the re-implementation of the model for future development and case studies.

  • An AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) is an unmanned underwater vessel to investigate sea environments and deep sea resource. To be completely autonomous, AUV must have the ability to home and dock to the launcher. In this paper, we consider a class of homing trajectory planning problem for an AUV with kinematic and tactical constraints in horizontal plane. Since the AUV under consideration has underactuated characteristics, trajectory for this kind of AUV must be designed considering the underactuated characteristics. Otherwise, the AUV cannot follow the trajectory. Proposed homing trajectory panning method that called VGM (Virtual Goal Method) based on visibility graph takes the underactated characteristics into consideration. And it guarantees shortest collision free trajectory. For tracking control, we propose a PD controller by simple guidance law. Finally, we validate the trajectory planning algorithm and tracking controller by numerical simulation and ocean engineering basin experiment in KORDI.

  • A fast optimal path planning algorithm using the analog Cellular Nonlinear Circuits(CNC) is proposed. The analog circuits based optimal path planning is very useful since most of the optimal path planning problems require real time computation. There has already been a previous study to implement the dynamic programming with analog circuits. However, it could not be applied for the practically large size of problems since the algorithm employs the mechanism of reducing its input current/voltage by the amount of cost, which causes outputs of distant cells to become zero. In this study, a subgoal-based dynamic programming algorithm to compute the optimal path is proposed. In the algorithm, the optimal paths are computed regardless of the distance between the starting and the goal points. It finds subgoals starting from the starting point when the output of the starting cell is raised from its initial value. The subgoal is set as the next initial position to find the next subgoal until the final goal is reached. The global optimality of the proposed algorithm is discussed and two different kinds of simulations have been done for the proposed algorithm.

  • To make a mobile robot to get to a goal point, path which connects the mobile robot and the goal point is needed and a path planning is necessary. There are various kinds of a path planning. Well known methods are skeleton method, cell decomposition method and potential field method. But each method has both fortes and defects. In this paper, we propose a new method of path planning to find a path for mobile robot. It is obtained by modifying a Voronoi diagram. An original Voronoi diagram can make a safe path but its result is not satisfied. First defect of path, finded by the original Voronoi diagram, is sulplus of safty which make a path longer. Second defect is that the original Voronoi diagram method has a problem of connecting the Voronoi daigram with start/goal point of mobile robot. These defects are removed in proposed algorithm in this paper. We define a function to show the quality of paths. And by computer simulation, paths are compared and its result are shown.

  • The most important topic in research of mobile robot is path planning in order to avoid with obstacle. In this study the path planning algorithm using a neural network model is proposed. The inputs of neural network are range data which are acquired form laser range finderm and weights are based on difference with goal direction. The thresholds are made by consdiering the marginal distance between mobile robot and obstacle. Consequently the outputs are obtained by multiplying input and weight. The obtained heading directiion enables the mobile robot to approach the goal, without any collision with obstacles around. The effectiveness of the this method of real-time navigation of a mobile robot is estimated by computer simulation in complex environment.

  • We propose a planning algorithm to automatically generate a robust behavior plan (RBP) with which mobile robots can achieve their task goal from any initial states under dynamically changing environments. For this, task description space (TDS) is formulated, where a redundant task configuration space and simulation model of physical space are employed. Successful task episodes are collected, where $A^*$ algorithm is employed. Interesting TDS state vectors are extracted, where occurrence frequency is used. Clusters of TDS state vectors are found by using state transition tuples and features of state transition tuples. From these operations, characteristics of successfully performed tasks by a simulator are abstracted and generalized. Then, a robust behavior plan is constructed as an ordered tree structure, where nodes of the tree are represented by attentive TDS state vector of each cluster. The validity of our method is tested by real robot's experimentation for a box-pushing-into-a-goal task.

  • A path planning algorithm using a laser range finder are presented for real-tiem navigation of an autonomous guided vehicle. Considering that the laser range finder has the excellent resolution with respect to angular and distance measurements, a sophisticated local path planning algorithm is achieved by using the human's heuristic method. In the case of which the man knows not rhe path, but the goal direction, the man forwards to the goal direction, avoids obstacle if it appears, and selects the best pathway when there are multi-passable ways between objects. These heuristic principles are applied to the path decision of autonomous guided vehicle such as forward open, side open and no way. Also, the effectiveness of the established path planning algorithm is estimated by computer simulation in complex environment.
