  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there was a difference in the degree of boredom between groups according to whether they participated in the self-control program, and to verify whether the individual's degree of boredom was lowered before and after the self-control program. 148 college students participated in this study. The results showed that the experimental group who participated in the self-control program had significantly lower boredom than the control group. Furthermore, the boredom of individuals who participated in the self-control program was significantly lower after participating in the self-control program than before. This study showed that self-control behaviors significantly affect boredom. Based on the results, theoretical and practical implications to cope with boredom were discussed.

  • In this paper, an active magnetic bearing(AMB) system is designed and controlled using a digital Proportional-Integral-Derivative(PID) control concept. The plant dynamics consisting of actuator and rigid rotor dynamics are described. A digital PID controller with a global control and a local control concept is designed and implemented using digital signal processor. Some experiments are conducted with each global control and local control concept. These include start-up test, impulse test, whirl response, and generator load test. The experimental results and comparison between those of a global control and a local control indicate that the global control of concept has impressive static and dynamic control performance for the prototype considered. From the whirl test, the developed system set can be controlled within about $\pm10\mu\textrm{m}$ gap variation at the rotational speed of 6000rpm and generate the AC power of frequency of $60\textrm{Hz}$, voltage of 100V and current of 0.8$\textit{A}$.

  • On the stage of an international trade with well-developed transportation, communication system and proliferation of free trade, global companies who are eager to sustain business growth by cutting cost and pioneering new market are facing a new challenge named "Global Compliance" of business transparency, export and import regulations, and potential international business environment. The purpose of a global compliance is to monitor and regulate a company's trade activities to reduce the risk of transactions that might violate relevant countries' laws, regulations, or standards. After the 911, for strengthening the non-proliferation of the export control goods, UNSCR1540(United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540(2004)) was declared in order to enforce the members to adopt the rules in the resolution into their national laws and regulations. Companies does not realized that they need to get rid of the risks because they underestimate the importance of international security, caused by their careless management. That is why currently the export control program is not fully observed by the most. Lack of awareness for the export control and the poor system of each members could be the reason for this unstable operating status. With this background, this thesis will study on the meaning of export control, schemes for companies to recognize its importance and governmental guideline to support global companies.

  • This study aims to examine the impact of perceived control on individuals' state boredom. We hypothesized that perceived control is negatively correlated with state boredom and is anticipated to be a significant predictor of state boredom after controlling for pre-task boredom. An experiment was conducted with 98 university students. All participants engaged in an identical task designed to induce boredom, with only participants in the experimental group given a choice during the task to enhance their perceived control. Correlational analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between perceived control and state boredom. Hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that perceived control remained a significant predictor of post-task boredom even after controlling for pre-task boredom. The study concludes with a discussion of the limitations, the implications of the findings, and suggestions for future research.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of concepts on global warming, practical will and belief on global warming mitigation by experiments based on global warming program. For this study, 60 $6^{th}$ grade students were selected in two elementary schools. They were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The students of the experimental group took part in global warming program focusing experiments for 10 lessons during 2 weeks. The students of the control group were taught according to the regular curriculum of $6^{th}$ grade about global warming. To identify the effects of this program, both groups' students were tested on concepts on global warming, practical will and belief on global warming mitigation before and after the program implementation. Also the students of the experimental group wrote an essay and gave an interview about the program after implementation. The results were that the experimental group gained higher scores than the control group in the concepts on global warming. The programs improved students' practical will and belief on global warming mitigation. Also this program showed that the students systematically understood on global warming than existing classes in the regular curriculum.

  • In this paper we develop a now procedure to control stepsize for linear multistep methods applied to semi-explicit index 1 differential-algebraic equations. in contrast to the standard approach the error control mechanism presented here is based on monitoring and contolling both the local and global errors of multistep formulas. As a result such methods with the local-global stepsize control solve differential-algebraic equation with any prescribed accuracy (up to round-off errors). For implicit multistep methods we give the minimum number of both full and modified Newton iterations allowing the iterative approxima-tions to be correctly used in the procedure of the local-global stepsize control. We also discuss validity of simple iterations for high accuracy solving differential-algebraic equations. Numerical tests support the the-oretical results of the paper.

  • This paper deals with the development of mechatronics fusion curriculum in Handong Global University. The execution of the program, which has been more than ten years long, is presented in the paper. The research indicates that changing the double major program from mechanical and metal engineering to mechanical and electronics control engineering resulted in dramatically increased number of students in the program and increased number of employment opportunities for graduating students. Percentage of satisfaction on the double major program was the highest from students enrolled among ten double major programs in the school. Overall grade average was significantly improved in junior year students compared to sophomore year students indicating the students became more engaged in their studies after having been trained in the program for one year. It is believed that multiple hands-on experiments and class projects conducted throughout the course assisted the development of the new curriculum. The study shows that the mechatronics fusion program is promising since it is relevant to the need of current age of industrial field that demands engineers with multidisciplinary capability.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the control technology of global distortion in the deck of superstructures during manufacturing processes. The behavior of global distortion in the deck was evaluated by FEA and verified through comparing with the measured results by 3D measuring instrument. It was seen from the results that the principal factor inducing the global distortion is to be the bending moment associated with the longitudinal shrinkage force and transverse shrinkage caused by welding of stiffeners and flame heating to correct the excessive local out-of-plane distortion. Based on the results, the amount of reverse distortion in the thin deck plate was determined to control the global distortion in the deck plate. The proposed distortion control technology was verified by applying it to the actual structure.
