In the manufacture of liquid crystal display devices, there is a strong demand for contactless glass plate handling devices that can manipulate a glass plate without contaminating or damaging it. To fulfill this requirement, an electrostatic transportation device for glass plates is proposed. This device can directly drive a glass plate and simultaneously provide contactless suspension by electrostatic forces. To accomplish these two functions, a feedback control strategy and the operational principle of an electrostatic induction motor are utilized. The stator possesses electrodes which exert electrostatic forces on the glass plate and are divided into a part responsible for suspension and one for transportation. To accomplish dynamic stability and a relatively fast suspension initiation time, the structure of the electrode for suspension possesses many boundaries over which potential differences are formed. In this paper, an electrode pattern suitable for the suspension of glass plates is described, followed by the structure of the transportation device and its operational principle. Experimental results show that the glass plate has been transported with a speed of approximately 25.6 mm/s while being suspended stably at a gap length of 0.3 mm.

In the manufacture of liquid crystal display devices, there is a strong demand for contactless glass panel handling devices that can manipulate a glass panel without contaminating or damaging it. To fulfill this requirement, an electrostatic transportation device for glass panels is proposed. This device can directly drive a glass panel and simultaneously provide contactless suspension by electrostatic forces. To accomplish these two functions, a feedback control strategy and the operational principle of an electrostatic induction motor are utilized. The stator possesses electrodes which exert electrostatic farces on the glass panel and are divided into a part responsible for suspension and one for transportation. In order to vitrify the W1 waste (ion-exchange resin(IER), zeolite, and dry active waste(DAW)) generated from Korean Nuclear Power Plants, a glass formulation development based on waste compositions and production rates was performed. A aluminoborosilicate glass, AG8W1, was formulated to vitrify the W1 waste in an induction cold crucible melter(CCM). The processability, product performance, and economics of the candidate glass were calculated using a computer code and were measured experimentally in the laboratory and CCM. The glass viscosity and electrical conductivity as the process parameters were in the desired ranges. Start-up and maintaining glass melt of the candidate glass were favorable in the CCM. The product quality of the glass such as chemical durability, phase stability, etc. was satisfactory. The vitrification process using the candidate glass was also evaluated to be operated as economically as possible.

In order to vitrify the combustible dry active waste (DAW) generated from Korean Nuclear Power Plants, a glass formulation development based on waste composition was performed. A borosilicate glass, DG-2, was formulated to vitrify the DAW in an induction cold crucible melter (CCM). The processability, product performance, and volume reduction effect of the candidate glass were evaluated using a computer code and were measured experimentally in the laboratory and CCM. The glass viscosity and electrical conductivity as the process parameters were in the desired ranges. Start-up and maintaining glass melt of the candidate glass were favorable in the CCM. The product of the glass product such as chemical durability, phase stability, and density was satisfactory. The vitrification process using the candidate glass was also evaluated assuming that it was operated as economically as possible.
The interrelationship between new parameter ${\sigma}$ and maximum diameter $D_{max}$ is elaborated and discussed in comparison with four other glass forming ability (GFA) parameters, i.e. (1) super-cooled liquid region ${\Delta}T_x (=T_x - T_g)$, (2) reduced glass transition temperature $T_{rg} (=T_g/T_l)$, (3) K parameter $K (=[T_x-T_g]/[T_l -T_x])$, and (4) gamma parameter ${\gamma}(=[T_x]/[T_l+T_g])$ in Ca-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) systems. The ${\sigma}$ parameter, defined as ${\Delta}T^*{\times}P^'$, has a far better correlation with $D_{max}$ than the GFA parameters suggested so far, clearly indicating that the liquid phase stability and atomic size mismatch dominantly affect the GFA of Ca-based BMGs. Thus, it can be understood that the GFA of BMGs can be properly described by considering structural aspects for glass formation as well as thermodynamic and kinetic aspects for glass formation.

Metallic glass alloys having dense packing structure have short range ordered structure with long range homogeneity. Therefore, they can provide complete corrosion protection and unique electrical properties. Recently, metallic glass thin films have received much attention to extend its application fields combining with PVC coating technologies. The metallic glass thin films can change the surface properties of the conventional bulk materials which need anticorrosion properties. However, multi-component alloying targets are required to fabricate the metallic glass thin films because metallic glass alloys contain more than three elements. Recently, many researchers have been reported the properties of the metallic glass thin films synthesized with multi-cathode systems or amorphous target. But, it is difficult to fabricate the large sized sputtering targets for mass production equipment with high toughness and thermal stability. In this study, newly developed sputtering target with glass forming ability and the properties of the metallic glass thin films will be introduced with respect to the various application fields such as bipolar plate in PEM fuel cell and decorative coatings for electric device and construction fields.

This paper presents a method to generate stained-glass animation from video inputs. The method initially segments an input video volume into several regions considered as fragments of glass by mean-shift segmentation. However, the segmentation predominantly results in over-segmentation, causing several tiny segments in a highly textured area. In practice, assembling significantly tiny or large glass fragments is avoided to ensure architectural stability in stained glass manufacturing. Therefore, we use low-frequency components in the segmentation to prevent over-segmentation and subdivide segmented regions that are oversized. The subdividing must be coherent between adjacent frames to prevent temporal artefacts, such as flickering and the shower door effect. To temporally subdivide regions coherently, we obtain a panoramic image from the segmented regions in input frames, subdivide it using a weighted Voronoi diagram, and thereafter project the subdivided regions onto the input frames. To render stained glass fragment for each coherent region, we determine the optimal match glass fragment for the region from a dataset consisting of real stained-glass fragment images and transfer its color and texture to the region. Finally, applying lead came at the boundary of the regions in each frame yields temporally coherent stained-glass animation.

Red phosphor in glasses (PiGs) for automotive light-emitting diode (LED) applications were fabricated with 620-nm $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and Pb-free silicate glass. PiGs were synthesized and mounted on high-power blue LED to make a monochromatic red LED. PiGs were simple mixtures of red phosphor and transparent glass powder. After being fabricated with uniaxial press and CIP at 300 MPa for 20 min, the green bodies were thermally treated at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to produce high dense PiGs. As the phosphor content increased, the density of the sintered body decreased and PiGs containing 30% phosphor had a full sintered density. Changes in photoluminescence spectra and color coordination were studied by varying the thickness of plates that were mounted after optical polishing. As a result of the optical spectrum and color coordinates, PiG plate with $210{\mu}m$ thickness showed a color purity of 99.7%. In order to evaluate the thermal stability, the thermal quenching characteristics were measured at temperatures of $30{\sim}150^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the red PIG plates were 30% more thermally stable compared to the AlGaInP red chip.
The regenerator is important part of the glass melting furnace to increase the temperature of the intake air through the combustion flame. The insulation, checker brick, prevention of the air leak has been studied to decrease the fuel consumption in glass melting industries. Thus the new types of checker brick and the design of the rider arch has been studied to prolong the life of the glass melting furnace. The height of the regenerator increased from 5.64 m to 7.89 m in the reforming of the glass melting furnace. Thus the stability of the rider arch is studied under the condition of increased load of checker brick in this research. The rider arch was estimated to be stable inspite of the increase of load according to the calculation. The max. sustained compressive stress of the rider arch is 163 kg/$cm^2$ and the max. sustained shear stress is 6.37 kg/$cm^2$.

This paper is a basic study for applying the dried recycled sludge of waste sludge generated in construction waste intermediate treatment facility and the crushed recycled glass aggregate of waste glass bottles that cannot be recycled to the recycled cold asphalt mixtures. This paper reviewed the characteristics of recycled cold asphalt mixtures using recycled sludge and recycled glass aggregate. As a result, as contents of recycled sludge and recycled glass aggregate increased, the Marshall stability, indirect tensile strength, and tensile strength ratio of the recycled cold asphalt mixtures decreased, but flow and void ratio of that increased.
