The aim of this study was to develop a method for measuring the slumping resistance of flowable resin composites and to evaluate the efficacy using rheological methodology. Five commercial flowable composites (Aelitefil flow:AF, Filtek flow:FF, DenFil flow:DF, Tetric flow:TF and Revolution:RV) were used. Same volume of composites in a syringe was extruded on a glass slide using a custom-made loading device. The resin composites were allowed to slump for 10 seconds at $25^{\circ}C$ and light cured. The aspect ratio (height/diameter) of cone or dome shaped specimen was measured for estimating the slumping tendency of composites. The complex viscosity of each composite was measured by a dynamic oscillatory shear test as a function of angular frequency using a rheometer. To compare the slumping tendency of composites, one way-ANOVA and Turkey's post hoc test was performed for the aspect ratio at 95% confidence level. Regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between the complex viscosity and the aspect ratio. The results were as follows. 1. Slumping tendency based on the aspect ratio varied among the five materials (AF
Although it is important to have high strength of each of fiber and matrix, interface between fiber and matrix is most important. If NaCl water penetrates the interface, that area will be weak. So experiment about increasing interfacial strength is in process. In this study, the change of properties by mechanical, interfacial and micromechanical tests was observed after NaCl and aging treatment. The changes in mechanical properties of glass fiber were investigated using single-fiber tensile test. Interfacial properties between glass fiber and epoxy resin were evaluated using nondestructive acoustic emission (AE) and micromechanical test applied to fatigue test. Through change of fatigue properties, relative interfacial properties were evaluate. In conclusion, glass fiber diameter decreased and the reduction of mechanical and interfacial was observed with NaCl solution and aging treatment.
Prismatic reflective sheets were prepared using microprisms, and their retroreflection and structural properties were investigated and compared with encapsulated lens type reflective sheets based on glass beads. As prepared, the prismatic reflective sheets show well arranged array of microprisms. The arrangement of glass beads in encapsulated lens type reflective sheets is also found to be uniform without any cracks. However, during the coating process of the PET layer, the beads are coming out and the gaps are formed due to the application of high pressure. Even though the preparation method for reflective sheets based on microprisms is similar to that of reflective sheets based on glass beads, the method is relatively simple and cost effective, and also needs less time. Prismatic reflective sheets show higher coefficient of retroreflection from all entrance angles compared to reflective sheets based on glass beads. The results prove that the prismatic reflective sheets can be used for preparing the traffic sign boards to secure a clear view.

The reliability problems of flip chip packages subjected to temperature change during the packaging process mainly occur due to mismatches in the coefficients of thermal expansion as well as features with time-dependent material properties. Resin molding compounds like glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites used as the dielectric layer in printed circuit boards (PCB) strongly exhibit viscoelastic behavior, which causes their Young's moduli to not only be temperature-dependent but also time-dependent. In this study, the stress relaxation and creep tests were used to characterize the viscoelastic properties of the glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite. Using the viscoelastic properties, finite element analysis (FEA) was employed to simulate thermal loading in the pre-baking process and predict thermal warpage. Furthermore, the effect of viscoelastic features for the major polymeric material on the dielectric layer in the PCB (the glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite) was investigated using FEA.
Sloshing impact loads on liquefied natural gas (LNG) carr iers are the main issue of damage to the insulation system in LNG cargo containment system (LNG CCS). The damage to the insulation system would be fatal in maintaining a temperature-savings environment in LNG CCS. The typical method is to enhance the insulation materials that can maintain a constant cryogenic temperature. Insulation materials consist of polyurethane foam and plywood, an adhesive for bonding these two materials. This study intends to improve the absorption energy of the material when the impact load is applied by creating a glass bubble/epoxy composite resin as part of the insulation. The experimental scenarios consider the effect of temperature ($20^{\circ}C$, $-163^{\circ}C$), glass bubble weight fraction in epoxy resin through free fall experiments. Experiments have shown that if the glass bubble additive reaches 20 wt.%, the cryogenic absorption energy is a maximum performance and that 0 wt.% has a maximum ambient absorption energy. However, the agglomeration has been occurred due to deterioration of the stirring performance if weight fraction was 20 wt.% and the result of 0 wt.% have been revealed that ambient absorption energy is significantly lower.
In this paper, a novel fibrous material known as axially reinforced braided composite rods (BCRs) have been developed for reinforcement of soils. These innovative materials consist of an axial reinforcement system, comprised of longitudinally oriented core fibres, which is responsible for mechanical performance and, a braided cover, which gives a ribbed surface texture for better interfacial interactions with soils. BCRs were produced using both thermosetting (unsaturated polyester) and thermoplastic (polypropylene) matrices and synthetic (carbon, glass, HT polyethylene), as well as natural (sisal) core fibres. BCRs were characterized for tensile properties and the influence of core fibres was studied. Moreover, BCRs containing carbon fibre in the core composition were characterized for piezoresistivity and strain sensing properties under flexural deformation. According to the experimental results, the developed braided composites showed tailorable and wide range of mechanical properties, depending on the core fibres and exhibited very good strain sensing behavior.

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/functionalized bacterial cellulose nanowhiskers (f-BCNW) (0.1 wt%) composite nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning process and the thermomechanical properties were significantly enhanced more than the PEO and PEO/bacterial cellulose nanowhiskers (BCNW) (0.1 wt%) composite nanofibers. The functionalization of BCNW (f-BCNW) was performed by microwave plasma treatment for effects of nitrogen functionalization of chemically-driven BCNW. The N-containing functional groups of f-BCNW enhanced chemical bonding between the hydroxyl groups of the polymer chains in the PEO matrix and diameter size of PEO/f-BCNW (0.1 wt%) composite nanofibers were decreased more than PEO and PEO/BCNW (0.1 wt%) composite nanofibers on the same concentration. The strong interfacial interactions between the f-BCNW nanofillers and polymer matrix were improved the thermomechanical properties such as crystallization temperature, weight loss and glass transition temperature (Tg) compared to PEO and PEO/BCNW composites nanofibers. The results demonstrated that N2 plasma treatment of BCNW is very useful in improving thermal stability for bio-applications.
Two kinds of polyurethane elastomers were prepared and their acoustical properties underwater investigated. Their dynamic mechanical properties were measured using a dynamic mechanical analyzer. The sound speed and echo reduction in the 1-50 kHz frequency range were calculated from the data obtained using the analyzer. The sound speed, transmission and attenuation cofficient in 300-800 kHz were measured in a water-filled tank. Impedance tube experiments were performed to determine the reflective coefficient and echo reduction in the 3-8 kHz range. The polyurethane elastomer containing a hollow glass sphere showed a lower reflective coefficient and a higher echo reduction than the polyurethane elastomer without a filler.
Barrier ribs of plasma display panel (PDP) are glass matrix composite reinforced with alumina particles. Mechanical properties of the ribs are very crucial for the improvement in reliability of the panel as the ribs might fracture during transportation and service. In this study, therefore, the effects of filler type and content on the mechanical properties of the ribs were investigated. The fillers used include $Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $ZrO_2$ and fused silica. The content of the filler was changed from 0 to 40 vol.%. The mechanical properties of the ribs measured were hardness, Young's modulus, fracture toughness, and 3-point bending modulus. The fracture toughness evaluated by micro-Vicker's indentation of the composites, in general, was measured to increase with the content of the filler until the sintered density does not decrease significantly. The improvement, however, was dependent on the type of filler employed.

Instrumented impact tests and compression-after-impact(CAI) tests have been used to evaluate the effect of temperature on the low-velocity impact characteristics of phenolic matrix composites reinforced with various woven glass fabric. Impact characteristics and damage area in laminates are evaluated by C-scan. It is shown that the extent of damage and residual compressive strength of the laminates vary with energy level and impact test temperature. The damage area increases with increasing impact energy and temperature. All these observations indicate reduced impact damage resistance and damage tolerance of the laminates at elevated temperature.
