고려인삼의 화서, 화촉, 과실 및 엽의 형태학적 특성 (Morphological Characteristics of Inflorescence, Flowering Bud, Fruit and Leaf of Korean Ginseng)

  • To clarify the morphological characteristics of Korean ginseng cultivated, the shapes and frequencies of Inflorescence, flowering bud, fruit, and leaf were investigated. The shapes of inflorescence, flowering bud and fruit, and leaf were divided into 6, 3, and 7 groups, respectively. The frequencies of these shapes were not significantly different according to the planting positions.

Morphological Characteristics of Ginseng Leaves in High-Temperature Injury Resistant and Susceptible Lines of Panax ginseng Meyer

  • Plant leaf cuticle is related to the prevention of moisture loss, transpiration, and diffusion of light reflection. The purpose of this study was to examine the morphological characteristics of ginseng leaves in ginseng plants resistant and susceptible to hightemperature injury (HTI) to be related with the leaf-burning. For the HTI resistant lines Yunpoong, high-temperature injury resistance (HTIR) 1, HTIR 2, and HTIR 3, and the HTI-susceptible line Chunpoong, the cuticle densities were 53.0%, 46.2%, 44.9%, 48.0%, and 17.0%; the adaxial leaf cuticle layers were 141.3, 119.7, 119.7, 159.4, and 85.0 nm in thickness; the abaxial leaf cuticle layers were 153.6, 165.8, 157.9, 199.6, and 119.4 nm in thickness; and the stomtal lengths were 21.7, 32.4, 29.4, 30.9, and $21.8{\mu}m$, respectively. All of these aspects suggest that HTI resistant lines have higher cuticle density, thickicker adaxial and abaxial leaf cuticle layers, and longer of stomta length than the HTI-susceptible line, protecting leaves from moisture loss and excessive transpiration under high temperatures to be resistant against the leaf-burning.

돌외 (Gynostemma Pentaphyllum)의 잎과 줄기 사포닌 (Saponins in Leaf and Stem of Gynostemma pentaphyllum)

  • Saponins in leaf and stem of Gynostemma pentaphyllum that was collected from Jeju Island were extracted by the method for ginseng saponin. Comparison by overlapping chromatogram(HPLC) of pentaphyllum on that of ginseng and cochromatogram and ginseng although ginsenoside Rg2, Rg1 and Rf might be in common with rare possibility. It seems to be little difference in the kind of saponin glycosides between leaf and stem of pentaphyllum. Saponin content in leaf of pentaphyllum was higher than in stem, and much higher than those in ginseng. The kind of saponin glycoside in pentaphyllum appeared to be less than 22 and greater than those in ginseng. There was almost no change in saponins of pentaphyllum in methanol for 3 years at room temperature.

인삼 논재배에서 석회 시용에 따른 갈반형 황증 발생 억제 효과 (Effect of Application Level of Calcium Hydroxide on Brown-Leaf Symptom and Root Yield of Panax ginseng Cultivated in Paddy Soil)

  • Physiological disorders such as symptoms in leaf colored with brown spots are so many occurred in ginseng garden cultivated with paddy soil. This study was carried out to inhibit the symptoms of brown-colored leaf in 3-year-old ginseng by fertilizing calcium hydroxide [$Ca(OH)_2$] of 100 ~ 400 kg per 10a on paddy soil before transplant of seedling. Soil pH was rapidly increased, while Fe was decreased in soil by the increase of application level of calcium hydroxide. Soil pH was increased from 4.53 to 6.18 when calcium hydroxide was fertilized at level of 100kg per 10a. The content of Fe in ginseng leaf was decreased more than the control by fertilizing calcium hydroxide in soil. Ratio of brown-colored leaf and plant height and leaf area were decreased by the increase of calcium hydroxide. Ratio of survived root and yield of root showed the peak at the application level of 100 kg per 10a, and both of them were gradually decreased by the increase of calcium hydroxide. The decrease of missing plant rate above the application level of 200 kg per 10a had a negative effect on the decrease of yield of root.

Morphological and Ginsenoside Differences among North American Ginseng Leaves

  • Leaf characteristics of mature 2, 3 and 4-year-old North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) leaves on fruiting and non-fruiting(NF) plants were studied. Leaflets of the 2-year-old plants had the lowest fresh and dry weight, area, volume and internal gas volume. Inflorescence removal in 3-year-old plants did not affect leaf characteristics or ginsenoside concentration but in 4-year-old plants it increased leaf fresh (38.6%) and dry (43.9%) weight, leaf area (29.1%), specific leaf mass (11.4%), leaf volume (43.1%), and leaf thickness (12.1%), and decreased leaf water content (6.2%). Cultivated ginseng, although an understorey plant, had the specific leaf mass, 35.6 g $m^{-2}$ (range, 36 to 39 g $m^{-2}$) and a chlorophyll a/b ratio of 2.40 to 2.61, both suggesting the ability to perform like a sunny habitat plant. Also, specific leaf mass of 35.6 g $m^{-2}$ is similar to that reported for perennial plants, 36.8 g $m^{-2}$, rather than that for annuals, 30.9 g $m^{-2}$.

Investigation of Phenolic, Flavonoid, and Vitamin Contents in Different Parts of Korean Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer)

  • This study investigated the phenolic, flavonoid, and vitamin constituents in the main root, root hair, and leaf of ginseng. The total individual phenolic and flavonoid contents were the highest in the leaf, followed by the main root and root hair. Ferulic acid and m-coumaric acid were found to be the major phenolics in the main root and root hair, while p-coumaric acid and m-coumaric acid were the major phenolics in the leaf. Catechin was the major flavonoid component in the main root and root hair, while catechin and kaempferol were the major flavonoid components in the leaf. Pantothenic acid was detected in the highest quantity in the non-leaf parts of ginseng, followed by thiamine and cobalamin. Linolenic acid and menadione were the major components in all parts of ginseng.

  • The aerial parts, stem diameter, stem length, Petiole length, leaf length and leaf width were investigated to estimate coefficient of variability in ginseng at 2 to 4 years grown under the conventional and improved shadings. C.V values of characters such as stem length, petiole length, leaf length and leaf width were decreased with increasing the plant age, while that of steam diameter was increased. C.V. values of aerial part characters were higher in conventional shading than in improved shading, and the variance of c.v. was not significant when above 20 plants were investigated.

인삼 잎 줄기 추출물의 초단파 및 식초 처리에 의한 인삼 사포닌 성분 변화 (The Change of Ginsenoside Composition in Ginseng Leaf and Stem Extract by the Microwave and Vinegar Process)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a new preparation process of ginseng extract with the high concentration of prosapogenin, the specific component in Red ginseng. Chemical transformation from the ginseng saponin glycosides to the prosapogenin was analyzed by the HPLC. The extracts of ginseng leaf and stem were processed at the several treatment conditions of the microwave and vinegar(about 14% acidity). MGLS-20 findings show that the ginseng leaf and stem extracts that had been processed with microwave and vinegar for 20 minutes peaked in the level of ginsenoside $Rg_3$(0.906%). MGLS-25 peaked in the level of ginsenoside $Rg_5$(0.329%) in the ginseng leaf and stem extract processed with microwave and vinegar for 25 minute. And the other kinds of ginseng prosapogenin did not show a higher content.

  • The formation of thylakoid membrane proteins and changes in the chloroplast ultrastructure of ginseng leaf were investigated as a function of time following the leaf emergence. The leaf chloroplast obtained just after the leaf emergence showed short rod-like thylakoids which were connected and arranged in 3~4 layers along the longitudinal axis of the chloroplast. The 10 DAE (days after emergence) chloroplast started to form grana structure. The typical grana structure was observed 17 DAE, and the grana was fully developed 28 DAE. The membrane proteins obtained from just after emerging leaf were separated into many minor bands indicating no CP-complex formation yet. LHC II was detected after 10 days. CP 47 and CP 43 were detected after 17 days. After 28 days, the PS I and PS II proteins were distinctly separated into CP 1, LHC II, CP 47, CP 43, CP 29, CP 27+24. Thus, the appearance of the light harvesting protein, LHC II, which was concentrated in grana stacks, was consis tent in time with the formation of grana stacks 17 DAE. 년생 및 재배조건이 인삼의 엽형에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Plant Age and Cultural Conditions on Leaf Shape of Korean Ginseng)

  • This study was conducted to know the influence of plant age and cultural conditions such as plant population density and light intensity under the shading on the leaf shape of panax ginseng. The result obtained were as follows; 1) Leaf length(L)/maximum width(W) was no difference with different age of over 3-over 3year old plant, but that of 1 or 2-yearold was smaller than those of over 3-year old. The values of L/W showed in the order of 2 or 4,3, 1 or 5 leaflet. 2) Ratios of leaflet area to leaf area were 32.0% in leaflet 3, from 209.% to 27.9% in leaflet 2 or 4, and from 6.5% to 7.1% in leaflet 1 or 5. 3) The coefficients of variability for L/W and ratio of leaflet area to leaf area of leaflet 3 were smallest among leaflets. 4) There were significant differences between largest and smallest leaflet 3, leaf areas and ratio of leaflet 3 area to leaf area in same plant. 5) LW and ratio of leaflet 3 area to leaf area were not affected by plant population density. 6) It showed a tendency that the L/W was increased with increasing the light transmittance rate (LTR). The ratio of leaflet 3 area to leaf area of ginseng grown under 20% LTR was not different comparing to that of plant grown under 5% LTR, but it was significantly increased in plant grown at 100% LTR.
