Purpose: The aims of this study were to develop and test the validity of the Korean Nursing Delirium Scale (Nu-DESC) for older patients in hospital. Methods: The Korean Nu-DESC was developed based on the Nu-DESC (Gaudreau, 2005), and revised according to nursing records related to signs and symptoms of older patients with delirium (n=361) and the results of a pilot study (n=42) in one general hospital. To test the validity of the Korean Nu-DESC, 75 older patients whom nurses suspected of delirium from 731 older patients from 12 nursing units were assessed by bedside nurses using the Korean Nu-DESC. A Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve of the Korean Nu-DESC was constructed with an accompanying Area Under the Curve (AUC). Results: Specific examples such as irritable, kidding, sleeping tendency, which were observed by bedside nurses in Korea, were identified in the five features of signs and symptoms of delirium in the instrument. The Korean Nu-DESC was psycho-metrically valid and had a sensitivity and specificity of .81-.76 and .97-.73, respectively. The AUC were .89, .74. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that the Korean Nu-DESC is well-suited for widespread clinical use in busy inpatients settings and shows promise as a research instrument.
Purpose: The study examined the psychometric properties of the Korean Geriatric Depression Scale Informant-15 (KGDSI-15), an instrument measuring geriatric depression through their primary caregivers. Methods: The participants were 370 Korean older adults $\geqq$65-years-of-age registered in a visiting health center in S city. The Korean version of Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDSSF-K) was used for comparison. Internal consistency measured tool reliability and Pearson correlation coefficient measured validity. One-way ANOVA was used to determine the clinical usability of the instrument: depression levels were classified as normal, mild depression, and severe using GDSSF-K, and the depression scores of these three groups were comparatively measured by KGDSI-15. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was .831. The correlation coefficient with GDSSF-K was r=.616 (p<.001). KGDSI-15 results showed the depression level of older adults with severe depression was highest followed by those with mild depression and normal. The group differences were also statistically significant, which indicated the clinical usability of the instrument. Conclusion: KGDSI-15 is suggested to be reliable and valid to measure the geriatric depression through the primary caregivers of older adult.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop an educational program to reduce the use of physical restraints for caregivers in geriatric hospitals and to evaluate the effects of the program on cargivers' knowledge, attitude and nursing practice related to the use of physical restraints. Methods: A quasi experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were recruited from two geriatric hospitals. Eighteen caregivers were assigned to the experimental group and 20 to the control group. The data were collected prior to the intervention and at 6 weeks after the intervention through the use of self-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, $\chi^2$ test, Fisher's exact probability test, and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the data. Results: After the intervention, knowledge about physical restraints increased significantly in experimental group compared to the control group. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the groups for attitude and nursing practice involving physical restraints. Conclusion: Findings indicate that it is necessary to apply knowledge acquired through educational programs to nursing practice to reduce the use of physical restraints. User friendly guidelines for physical restraints, administrative support of institutions, and multidisciplinary approaches are required to achieve this goal.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions of adequacy and job performance of the nurse assistants' nursing job as evaluated by registered nurses and nurse assistants in geriatric hospitals, and by caregivers from the same hospitals. Methods: Participants included 62 registered nurses, 57 nurse assistants, and 64 patient caregivers who completed a measurement scale on the job of nurse assistants. Data collection was conducted from October to December, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA by IBM SPSS/WIN program version 21.0. Results: There were significant differences by items in perception of adequacy of nurse assistants' nursing job of among the three groups. There was also a significant difference in perception of the nurse assistants' job performance among the three groups. Conclusion: For nurse assistants in geriatric hospitals, the Ministry of Health and Welfare needs to develop an appropriate job practice guideline. In addition, there should be periodic courses of retraining and continuing education for nurse assistants.
Purpose: An integrative literature review was done to identify the best interventions for older adults with dyslipidemia in an effort to promote nursing involvement in the prevention of statin-induced symptoms (SIS). Such awareness could increase the capacity of interventions by geriatric nurses using evidence-based practices in the reassessment of statin therapy. Methods: CINAHL, Pubmed, and ProQuest were searched using these terms: dyslipidemia in, elderly, statins, adverse effects, and quality of life. Eleven articles fitting the inclusion criteria were identified and analyzed. Results: The findings indicate no evidence for the benefit of statin therapy for morbidity/mortality in a high-risk primary prevention set-up, specifically in the elderly population. Although SIS prevails among older adults, there are limited data that confidently support this observation along with nursing interventions specifically for the geriatric nursing community. Conclusion: Future research is necessary to shift nursing intervention with statin users (specifically in older adults) from an illness-based intervention to a preventive care plan to provide optimal care based on evidence. It is essential to involve self-reporting, cooperation, and communication with health care professionals, specifically with geriatric nurses. Additional studies are needed to further direct practice interventions in elderly statin users.
This study was conducted to understand the effects on the attitude toward the elderly, willingness to geriatric nursing practice, and global competencies by developing a geriatric-nursing convergence education program. This program that combines the theory of elderly care and practical education and applies it to nursing students. This is a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The study participants consisted of 19 in a control group and 17 in an experimental group. They were the second-year of the nursing students in A city, Chungcheongnam-do. This program, including character building, elderly care competence, global competence, and community contribution, was held for 80 hours from August 28, 2017 to December 8, 2017. The experimental group compared to the control group, attitude toward the elderly (Z =-.46, p =.66), willingness to geriatric nursing practice (Z =-.64, p =.53), global competence (Z =-1.08, p =.29) showed no statistically significant difference. As a result of this study, it is suggested to develop and implement a convergence education program that nursing students can form positive attitudes toward the elderly and interact directly with the elderly.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the good death awareness, spiritual well-being, and elderly nursing performance of geriatric hospital nursing providers, and the factors affecting the elderly nursing performance. The subjects were collected from 176 nursing providers in 5 Geriatric hospitals located in D, S, and C provinces. Collected data were analyzed by means, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis using spss 22.0. The result showed that good death awareness was 3.15 out of 4 points, spiritual well-being was 4.11 out of 6 points, and 4.15 out of 5 points for elderly nursing performance. There was a positive correlation between the elderly care performance and good death awareness (r=.19, p=.011) and spiritual well-being (r=.23, p=.002). The factors affecting the performance of elderly nursing were good death perception(${\beta}=.18$, p=.015) and spiritual well-being(${\beta}=.18$, p=.013). Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop an intervention program that considers good death and spiritual well-being in order to improve the elderly nursing care performance of geriatric hospital Nursing providers.

The purpose of this study was to explore the components of the geriatric robot pet, which might be helpful in caring for elderly people in the future. Focus group interview-with two focus groups-was performed between August 2014 and December 2014. Study participants were 13 geriatric experts from nursing, medicine, social work, and physical/occupational therapy. All interview data were transcribed, followed by debriefing and a qualitative content analysis. Three main themes emerged: acknowledgment of the usefulness of geriatric robot pet, establishment of elderly-centered appearance, and the functions of the robot pet to meet the needs of elders and family members. The robot pet was considered to be useful to elders who live alone since they can benefit from companionship and care provided by the robot pet. Geriatric robot pet needs to be manageable in size and weight, like a small dog. Moreover, a function that allows for interaction with and monitoring the elderly would be beneficial. The baseline elements that could guide further development of contents for the Korean geriatric robot pet were proposed from the results of FGI. Studies that validate these elements are necessary.
