Impact-collision ion scattering spectroscopy was applied to study the geometrical structure of epitaxially grown TiO layers on the MgO(100) surface. Hetero-epitaxial TiO layer was formed by thermal evaporation of titanium onto the MgO(100) surface followed by the exposure to oxygen at $400{\circ}$. The well-ordered TiO structure was confirmed by the impact-collision ion scattering spectroscopy and reflection high energy electron diffraction patterns. It is revealed that the Ti and O atoms are located on the on-top site of the MgO(100) surface and the TiO overlayers are composed of little three dimensional islands.

Time-of-flight impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy (TOF-ICISS) was applied to study the geometrical structure of the epitaxially grown BaTiO₃ layers on the MgO(100) surface. Hetero-epitaxial BaTiO₃ layers can be deposited by the following steps: first thermal evaporation of titanium onto the MgO(100) surface in the atmosphere of oxygen at 400℃, secondly thermal evaporation of barium in the same manner, and finally annealing at 800℃. Well ordered perovskite BaTiO₃ was confirmed from the ICISS spectra and reflection high electron energy diffraction (RHEED) patterns. It was also revealed that BaTiO₃ had cubic structure with the same lattice parameter of bulk phase.

Traditionally, the continuum-based topology optimization methods employing the SIMP technique have been used to design compliant mechanisms. Although they have been successful, the optimized mechanisms by the methods are usually difficult to manufacture because of their geometrical complexities. The objective of this study is to develop a topology optimization method that can produce easy-to-fabricate mechanism structure. The proposed method is a ground beam method where beam connectivity is controlled by the beam joint stiffness. In this approach, beam joint stiffness determines the mechanism configuration. Because b the ground structure beams have uniform thicknesses varying only discretely, the resulting mechanism topologies become easily manufacturable.

Microstructure evolution during low temperature vapor deposition exhibits wel-developed columnar structure mainly owing to geometrical shadowing effect of surface roughness. It is concluded that this structure is concided with many theoretical models suggested so far. In case of aluminum nitride film deposition consisted of etching and nitriding step employing ECR plasma, the rougher the surface before etching, the finer and more cone-and-whisker structure can be developed. In turn, this fine structure affects the formation and growth of columnar as well as offers many sites available for mechanical lock-up. Conclusively, the formation of well-defined columnar structures depends on the initial surface roughness.

The nonlinear thermal buckling load parameter of the laminated composite panel structure is investigated numerically using the higher-order theory including the stretching effect through the thickness and presented in this research article. The large geometrical distortion of the curved panel structure due to the elevated thermal loading is modeled via Green-Lagrange strain field including all of the higher-order terms to achieve the required generality. The desired solutions are obtained numerically using the finite element steps in conjunction with the direct iterative method. The concurrence of the present nonlinear panel model has been established via adequate comparison study with available published data. Finally, the effect of different influential parameters which affect the nonlinear buckling strength of laminated composite structure are examined through numerous numerical examples and discussed in details.

The modal frequency responses of adhesive bonded T-joint structure have been analyzed numerically and verified with own experimental data. For this purpose, the damped free frequencies of the bonded joint have been computed using a three-dimensional finite element model via ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) code. The practical relevance of the joint structure analysis has been established by comparing the simulation data with the in-house experimental values. Additionally, the influences of various geometrical and material parameters on the damped free frequency responses of the joint structure have been investigated and final inferences discussed in details. It is observed that the natural frequency values increase for the higher aspect ratios of the joint structure. Also, the joint made up of Glass fiber/epoxy with quasi-isotropic fiber orientation indicates more resistance towards free vibration.
The axial compressive strength of unidirectional FRP is generally quite lower than its axial tensile strength. This fact decreases the advantages of FRP as main load bearing member in engineering structure. In order to restrain the lateral expansion and splitting of GFRP, and accordingly heighten its axial compressive bearing capacity, a project that to confine GFRP pole with surrounding CFRP sheet is suggested in the present study. The Experiment on the CFRP sheet confined GFRP poles showed that a combined structure of high bearing capacity was attained. Basing on the experiment research a theoretical iterative calculation approach is suggested to predict the ultimate axial compressive stress of the combined structure, and the predicted results agree well with the experimental results. Then the influences of geometrical parameters on the ultimate axial compressive stress of the combined structure are also analyzed basing on this approach.
In this project, buckling response of polymeric plates reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and coated by magnetostrictive layer was studied. The equivalent nanocomposite properties are determined using Mori-Tanak model considering agglomeration effects. The structure is simulated with first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Employing strains-displacements, stress-strain, the energy equations of the structure are obtained. Using Hamilton's principal, the governing equations are derived considering the coupling of mechanical displacements and magnetic field. Using Navier method, the buckling load of the sandwich structure is obtained. The influences of volume percent and agglomeration of CNTs, geometrical parameters and magnetic field on the buckling load are investigated. Results show that with increasing volume percent of CNTs, the buckling load increases. In addition, applying magnetic field, increases the frequency of the sandwich structure.

A timber lattice roof, which has around 30m span, was constructed. In order to figure out the realistic buckling load level, the structural analysis of this roof structure was performed especially by stiffness of connection with various asymmetric snow load. Due to the characteristics of application of snow load, the load combinations of snow should be considered not only global area but also local part so that the critical buckling load could be observed as easy as possible. Geometrical imperfection was simulated to consider inaccurate shape of structure. And then nonlinear analysis were performed. Finally, this paper could investigate that the asymmetric snow load with the lower level stiffness of connection decreased the level of buckling load significantly.

Several non-manifold data structures have been compared, which are radial-edge data structure, partial-face data structure, vertex-based data structure, and Yamaguchi's data structrue. All the entities in the data structures are classified into common entities and special entities. The entities are also classified as model entities, primitive entities bounding entities, and coupling entities. The four data structures for nonmanifold solid modelers are compared in terms of accessing efficiency, storage requirements, and inclusion of circulation. The results of comparison will serve as the basis to develope a nonmanifold modeler.
