This paper proposes a method for classifying targets robust to geometric transformations of targets such as rotation, scale change, translation, and pose change. Targets which have rotation, scale change, and shift is firstly classified based on CM(Confidence Map) which is generated by similarity, scale ratio, and range of orientation for SIFT(Scale-Invariant Feature Transform) feature vectors. On the other hand, DB(DataBase) which is acquired in various angles is used to deal with pose variation of targets. Range of the angle is determined by comparing and analyzing the execution time and performance for sampling intervals. We experiment on various images which is geometrically changed to evaluate performance of proposed target classification method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a good classification performance.

This paper describes the method for detecting vehicles in the rear and rear-side at night by using headlight features. A headlight is the outstanding feature that can be used to discriminate a vehicle from a dark background. In the segmentation process, a night image is transformed to a binary image that consists of black background and white regions by gray-level thresholding, and noise in the binary image is eliminated by a morphological operation. In the feature extraction process, the geometric features and moment invariant features of a headlight are defined, and they are measured in each segmented region. Regions that are not appropriate to a headlight are filtered by using geometric feature measurement. In region classification, a pair of headlights is detected by using relational features based on the symmetry of a pair of headlights. Experimental results show that this method is very applicable to an approaching vehicle detection system at nighttime.

Most of cameras being used in practice induce lens distortion; the amount of distortion depends on the specific applications as well as the camera cost. Up to now, many methods of lens distortion correction have relied on invariant properties of projective geometry to find distortion parameters. A common property is "the straight line in scene is straight line in image". However, if the straight lines are also parallel together, the previous works have missed this restriction in determining lens distortion parameters. In this paper, we propose a method that leads to guarantee of the restrictions simultaneously for the determination. Therefore, corrected image will close to an ideal image taken by the pinhole camera model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by our experiments on both synthetic images and real images.

There are several types of image registration in the sense of stitching separated images that overlap each other. One of these is feature-based registration by a common feature descriptor. In this study, we generate a mosaic of images using feature-based registration for drone aerial images. As a feature descriptor, we apply the scale-invariant feature transform descriptor. In order to investigate the authenticity of the feature points and to have the mapping function, we employ the sample consensus method; we consider the sensed image's inherent characteristic such as the geometric congruence between the feature points of the images to propose a novel hypothesis estimation of the mapping function of the stitching via some optimally chosen initial candidate inliers in the sample consensus method. Based on the experimental results, we show the efficiency of the proposed method compared with benchmark methodologies of random sampling consensus method (RANSAC); the well-ordering property defined in the context and the extensive stitching examples have supported the utility. Moreover, the sample consensus scheme proposed in this study is uncomplicated and robust, and some fatal miss stitching by RANSAC is remarkably reduced in the measure of the pixel difference.

In this paper, an innovative robust feature detection and matching strategy for visual odometry based on stereo image sequence is proposed. First, a sparse multiscale 2D local invariant feature detection and description algorithm AKAZE is adopted to extract the interest points. A robust feature matching strategy is introduced to match AKAZE descriptors. In order to remove the outliers which are mismatched features or on dynamic objects, an improved random sample consensus outlier rejection scheme is presented. Thus the proposed method can be applied to dynamic environment. Then, geometric constraints are incorporated into the motion estimation without time-consuming 3-dimensional scene reconstruction. Last, an iterated sigma point Kalman Filter is adopted to refine the motion results. The presented ego-motion scheme is applied to benchmark datasets and compared with state-of-the-art approaches with data captured on campus in a considerably cluttered environment, where the superiorities are proved.
In this paper, we propose a method to estimate camera motion parameter based on invariant point features, Typically, feature information of image has drawbacks, it is variable to camera viewpoint, and therefore information quantity increases after time, The LM(Levenberg-Marquardt) method using nonlinear minimum square evaluation for camera extrinsic parameter estimation also has a weak point, which has different iteration number for approaching the minimal point according to the initial values and convergence time increases if the process run into a local minimum, In order to complement these shortfalls, we, first proposed constructing feature models using invariant vector of geometry, Secondly, we proposed a two-stage calculation method to improve accuracy and convergence by using 2D homography and LM method, In the experiment, we compared and analyzed the proposed method with existing method to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithms.
This paper addresses the way to compose paronamic images from images taken the same objects. With the spread of digital camera, the panoramic image has been studied to generate with its interest. In this paper, we propose a panoramic image generation method using scaling and rotation invariant features. First, feature points are extracted from input images and matched with a RANSAC algorithm. Then, after the perspective model is estimated, the input image is registered with this model. Since the SURF feature extraction algorithm is adapted, the proposed method is robust against geometric distortions such as scaling and rotation. Also, the improvement of computational cost is achieved. In the experiment, the SURF feature in the proposed method is compared with features from Harris corner detector or the SIFT algorithm. The proposed method is tested by generating panoramic images using $640{\times}480$ images. Results show that it takes 0.4 second in average for computation and is more efficient than other schemes.
Rotation and scale variations make it difficult to solve the problem of shape description and recognition because these variations change the location of points composing the shape. However, some geometric Invariant points and the relations among them are not changed by these variations. Therefore, if points in image space depicted with the r-y coordinates system can be transformed into a new coordinates system that are invariant to rotation and scale, the problem of shape description and recognition becomes easier. This paper presents a shape description method via transformation from the image space into the invariant feature space having two axes: representing relative distance from a centroid and contour segment curvature(CSC). The relative distance describes how far a point departs from the centroid, and the CSC represents the degree of fluctuation in a contour segment. After transformation, mesh features were used to describe the shape mapped onto the feature space. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to rotation and scale variations.

In this paper, we propose a landmark recognition method which is irrelevant to the camera viewpoint on the navigation for localization. Features in previous research is variable to camera viewpoint, therefore due to the wealth of information, extraction of visual landmarks for positioning is not an easy task. The proposed method in this paper, has the three following stages; first, extraction of features, second, learning and recognition, third, matching. In the feature extraction stage, we set the interest areas of the image. where we extract the corner points. And then, we extract features more accurate and resistant to noise through statistical analysis of a small eigenvalue. In learning and recognition stage, we form robust feature models by testing whether the feature model consisted of five corner points is an invariant feature irrelevant to viewpoint. In the matching stage, we reduce time complexity and find correspondence accurately by matching method using similarity evaluation function and Graham search method. In the experiments, we compare and analyse the proposed method with existing methods by using various indoor images to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed methods.
This paper presents a new shape-based algorithm using affine category shape model for object category recognition and model learning. Affine category shape model is a graph of interconnected nodes whose geometric interactions are modeled using pairwise potentials. In its learning phase, it can efficiently handle large pose variations of objects in training images by estimating 2-D homography transformation between the model and the training images. Since the pairwise potentials are defined on only relative geometric relationship betweenfeatures, the proposed matching algorithm is translation and in-plane rotation invariant and robust to affine transformation. We apply spectral matching algorithm to find feature correspondences, which are then used as initial correspondences for RANSAC algorithm. The 2-D homography transformation and the inlier correspondences which are consistent with this estimate can be efficiently estimated through RANSAC, and new correspondences also can be detected by using the estimated 2-D homography transformation. Experimental results on object category database show that the proposed algorithm is robust to pose variation of objects and provides good recognition performance.
