Recently, along with the improvements of geometry modeling methods using sketch-based interface, there have been a lot of developments in research about generating surface model from 3D curves. However, surfacing a 3D curve network remains an ambiguous problem due to the lack of geometric information. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for estimating the normal vectors of the 3D curves which accord closely with user intent. Bending energy is defined by utilizing RMF(Rotation-Minimizing Frame) of 3D curve, and we estimated this minimal energy frame as the one that accords design intent. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated with surface model creation of various curve networks. The algorithm of estimating geometric information in 3D curves which is proposed in this paper can be utilized to extract new information in the sketch-based modeling process. Also, a new framework of 3D modeling can be expected through the fusion between curve network and surface creating algorithm.

Recent works have shown that the geometric constraint can be harnessed to boost the performance of CNN-based camera localization. However, the existing strategies are limited to imposing image-level constraint between pose pairs, which is weak and coarse-gained. In this paper, we introduce a pixel-level epipolar geometry constraint to vanilla localization framework without the ground-truth 3D information. Dubbed EpiLoc, our method establishes the geometric relationship between pixels in different images by utilizing the epipolar geometry thus forcing the network to regress more accurate poses. We also propose a variant called EpiSingle to cope with non-sequential training images, which can construct the epipolar geometry constraint based on a single image in a self-supervised manner. Extensive experiments on the public indoor 7Scenes and outdoor RobotCar datasets show that the proposed pixel-level constraint is valuable, and helps our EpiLoc achieve state-of-the-art results in the end-to-end camera localization task.
The manual inspection of photovoltaic (PV) panels to meet the requirements of inspection work for large-scale PV power plants is challenging. We present a hot spot detection and positioning method to detect hot spots in batches and locate their latitudes and longitudes. First, a network based on the YOLOv3 architecture was utilized to identify hot spots. The innovation is to modify the RU_1 unit in the YOLOv3 model for hot spot detection in the far field of view and add a neural network residual unit for fusion. In addition, because of the misidentification problem in the infrared images of the solar PV panels, the DeepLab v3+ model was adopted to segment the PV panels to filter out the misidentification caused by bright spots on the ground. Finally, the latitude and longitude of the hot spot are calculated according to the geometric positioning method utilizing known information such as the drone's yaw angle, shooting height, and lens field-of-view. The experimental results indicate that the hot spot recognition rate accuracy is above 98%. When keeping the drone 25 m off the ground, the hot spot positioning error is at the decimeter level.
Navigation in unknown environments, where the robot has no exact geometric information in advance, requires the robot to obtain the destination positions without a map. The utilization of model-based object recognition would be a solution, where the robot can estimate the destination positions from geometric relationships between the recognized objects and the robot. This paper presents a robot System for this kind of navigation, in Which the robot navigates itself to the room designated by room number. Object recognition technique is used to find a door and character recognition is utilized to interpret the room number on the number plate near the door and to determine whether it is the destination or not. The robot has ...

In this paper, a robust traffic light detection method is proposed by using vision sensor and DGPS(Difference Global Positioning System). The conventional vision-based detection methods are very sensitive to illumination change, for instance, low visibility at night time or highly reflection by bright light. To solve these limitations in visual sensor, DGPS is incorporated to determine the location and shape of traffic lights which are available from traffic light database. Furthermore the geometric relationship between traffic light and vision sensor is used to locate the traffic light in the image by using DGPS information. The empirical results show that the proposed method improves by 51% in detection rate for night time with marginal improvement in daytime environment.
We consider communication or computer systems that have the average memory occupancy and congestion. A certain system may be reduced further if new processes are admitted only when the number of processes queued at the processor is below a certain threshold, run queue cutoff(RQ). We show that response time of a process is invariant with respect to RQ when processes do not communicate each other. The invariance property is considered with the evolution of the queue lengths as point processes and demonstrate it numerically using matrix-geometric methods. We illustrate the RQ invariance property.

Recently, it has shown an increased interest in 3D stereoscopic contents due to the development of the digital image media. Therefore, many techniques in 3D stereoscopic image generation have being researched and developed. However, it is difficult to generate high immersion and natural 3D stereoscopic contents, because the lack of 3D geometric information imposes restrictions in 2D image. In addition, control of the camera interval and rendering of the both eyes must be repetitively accomplished for the stereo effect being high. Therefore, we propose integrated editing system for 3D stereoscopic contents production using a variety of images. Then we generate 3D model from projective geometric information in single 2D image using image-based modeling method. And we offer real-time interactive 3D stereoscopic preview function for determining high immersion 3D stereo view. And then we generate intuitively 3D stereoscopic contents of high-quality through a stereoscopic LCD monitor and a polarizing filter glasses.

The update of a high-precision map was carried out by modifying the geometric information using ortho-images or point-cloud data as the source data and then reconstructing the relationship between the spatial objects. These series of processes take considerable time to process the geometric information, making it difficult to apply real-time route planning to a vehicle quickly. Therefore, this study proposed a method to update the road network for route planning using a graph data structure and storage type of graph data structure considering the characteristics of the road network. The proposed method was also reviewed to assess the feasibility of real-time route information transmission by applying it to actual road data.

A motion-based background subtraction method without geometric computation is proposed, allowing that the camera is moving parallel to the ground plane with uniform velocity. The proposed method subtracts the background region from a given image by evaluating the difference between calculated and model Hows. This approach is insensitive to small errors of calculated optical flows. Furthermore, in order to tackle the significant errors, a strategy for incorporating a set of optical flows calculated over different frame intervals is presented. An experiment with two real image sequences, in which a static box or a moving toy car appears, to evaluate the performance in terms of accuracy under varying thresholds using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The ROC curves show, in the best case, the figure-ground segmentation is done at 17.8 % in false positive fraction (FPF) and 71.3% in true positive fraction (TPF) for the static-object scene and also at 14.8% in FPF and 72.4% In TPF for the moving-object scene, regardless if the calculated optical flows contain significant errors of calculation.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the automatic registration of two rigid parts using multiple 3D sensor systems on a robot. Four sets of structured laser stripe system consisted of a camera and a visible laser stripe is used for the acquisition of 3D information. Detailed procedures including extrinsic calibration among four 3D sensor systems and hand/eye calibration of 3D sensing system on robot arm are presented. We find a best pose using search-based pose estimation algorithm where cost function is proposed by reflecting geometric constraints between sensor systems and target objects. A pose with minimum gap and height difference is found by greedy search. Experimental result using demo system shows the robustness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
