  • To clarify the spider fauna of Geojedo Island, a field survery was conducted in August, 1997. As a result, 92 species belonging to 56 genera of 20 families were collected. Identified spider are composed of 6.60% Palaearctic, 7.70% Holarctic, 2.20% Oriental, 3.30% cosmopolitan species. Spiders of Theridiidae, Araneidae and Salticidae were dominant, 82(90.1%) and 75 species(82.4%) of spiders were found in common with Japan, China, respectively. Faunal similarities between Geojedo island and Deogjeong Archipelago, Chejudo Island, Ulleungdo Island, Chindo Island, Paiklyeongdo Island and Kogeumdo Island are discussed.

Among them, seventeen species are recorded for the first time from around Geojedo Island. Four species, Odontosyllis maculata Uschakov, 1950, Odontosyllis decta Augener, 1913, Autolytus(Regulatus) convolutus(Cognett, 1953) and Chone mollis (Bush, 1904), are turned out to be new to the Korean fauna. • A taxonomic study for clarifying the decapod fauna of Gejedo Island, Korea was performed. Seventy nine species in 28 families were identified through the present investigation and of which 9 species of shrimps, 7 species of anomurans, and 39 species of crabs are newly added to the decapod fauna of this area. With the previously known 40 species, a total of 93 decapod species from this island and its adjacent islets are listed, and Pugettia quadridens intermedia Sakai, 1939 is redescribed with illustrations. The zoogeographical aspects of Geojedo Island are also discussed based on the composition of geographical forms of brachyuran decapods.

  • This study was made as a part of the benethic fauna of Geojedo Island. The material was obtained from 17 localities (Fig. 1) along the coastal sea of Geojedo Island and it's adjacent waters during the years 1995-1998. This paper includes 38 species from a limited area of the southern part of Korea and includes 13 previously known species by Rho(1975-1991). Of these Didemnum (D.) pardum, Symplegma oceania, and Styela coriacea, are new to the Korean fauna, and 22 species are newly added to the fauna of Geojedo Island. We provided taxonomic notes and brief notes on the ascidian fauna, and the biogeographical distribution of Geojedo island. Its ascidian fauna are characterized by a high percentage of 18(47.4%) warm-water species and the extreme scarcity of eight(21.1%) boreal-water forms. This result may be attributable to the fact that Geojedo island and its adajacent waters are located under the influence of the warm Kuroshio Current.
