The aim of this study is to apply and verify of Bayesian probability model, the likelihood ratio and statistical model, at Janghung, Korea, using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of IRS satellite images, field surveys, and maps of the topography, soil type, forest cover, geology and land use were constructed to spatial database. The factors that influence landslide occurrence, such as slope, aspect and curvature of topography were calculated from the topographic database. Texture, material, drainage and effective soil thickness were extracted from the soil database, and type, diameter and density of forest were extracted from the forest database. Land use was classified from the Landsat TM image satellite image. As each factor's ratings, the likelihood ratio coefficient were overlaid for landslide susceptibility mapping, Then the landslide susceptibility map was verified and compared using the existing landslide location. The results can be used to reduce hazards associated with landslides management and to plan land use and construction.

The mobility model is one of the most important factors that impacts the evaluation of any transportation vehicular networking protocols via simulations. However, to obtain a realistic mobility model in the dynamic urban environment is a very challenging task. Several studies extract mobility models from large-scale real data sets (mostly taxi GPS data) in recent years, but they do not consider the statuses of taxi, which is an important factor affected taxi's mobility. In this paper, we discover three simple observations related to the taxi statuses via mining of real taxi trajectories: (1) the behavior of taxi will be influenced by the statuses, (2) the macroscopic movement is related with different geographic features in corresponding status, and (3) the taxi load/drop events are varied with time period. Based on these three observations, a novel taxi mobility model (T-START) is proposed with respect to taxi statuses, geographic region and time period. The simulation results illustrate that proposed mobility model has a good approximation with reality in trajectory samples and distribution of nodes in four typical time periods.

The study for the estimation potential natural vegetation was estimated the occurrence probability distribution using geographic information system(GIS) in Bukhansan National Park. Correlation and factor analysis were analyzed to estimate probability distribution. Coefficients were calculated by logistic regression analysis. Correlation coefficients were significantly at the 0.01 level. Commonality of elevation, annual mean temperature, warmth index and potential evapotranspiration were high value, but topographic index was low value. Communities of over the 0.3 points distribution probability, Quercus mogolica communities were the largest area, 76,940,900 $m^2$, Pinus densiflora communities area was 860,800 $m^2$, Quercus acutissima communities area was 500,100 $m^2$ and Quercus variabilis communities area was 1,000 $m^2$, but Q. aliena, Q. serrata, Carpinus laxiflora and Zelcova serrata communities was not appeared. Therefore, potential national vegetation of Bukhansan national park was likely to be Q. mongolica community, P. densiflora community, Q. acutissima community and Q. variabilis community.
Vegetation rather than soil types, is the predominant factor in determining density and distribution of Dreponotermes tarnminensis (Hill) mounds within the Durokoppin Nature Reserve m Westem Austral~an wheatbelt D tomminensis mounds reach the hlghest densities m Woodland (dominated by Eucalyptus cap~llosa) and Casuarina (dominated by Allocasuarino campestris) vegetation assoc~ations. There appears to be no influence of soil type on mound dishibut~on. although higher mound densities tend to be found on the Booraan soil type.

In mountain accident events, it is important for the search team commander to determine the search area in order to secure the Golden Time. Within this period, assistance and treatment to the concerned individual will most likely prevent further injuries and harm. This paper proposes a method to determine the search priority area based on missing persons behavior and missing persons incidents statistics. GIS (Geographic Information System) and MCDM (Multi Criteria Decision Making) are integrated by applying WLC (Weighted Linear Combination) techniques. Missing persons were classified into five types, and their behavioral characteristics were analyzed to extract seven geographic analysis factors. Next, index values were set up for each missing person and element according to the behavioral characteristics, and the raster data generated by multiplying the weight of each element are superimposed to define models to select search priority areas, where each weight is calculated from the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) through a pairwise comparison method obtained from search operation experts. Finally, the model generated in this study was applied to a missing person case through a virtual missing scenario, the priority area was selected, and the behavioral characteristics and topographical characteristics of the missing persons were compared with the selected area. The resulting analysis results were verified by mountain rescue experts as 'appropriate' in terms of the behavior analysis, analysis factor extraction, experimental process, and results for the missing persons.

The primary purpose of this study was to analyze assessment factors by identifying and prioritizing live fire shooting area requirements using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique. Derived assessment factors for candidate sites were divided into six categories. Of these, four categories (base-to-range distance, weapon danger area, range terrain, and size) were in the realm of physical geography while the remaining two (land use and proximity to habitation) fell under the general heading of human geography. A case study was also conducted to select several alternative firing ranges using derived factors. The optimal location was analyzed by evaluating the candidate site using each assessment factor. As a result, it was found that assessment factors applying to GIS (Geographic Information System) were able to effectively analyze a suitable location for relocation of the focal training facility, taking into consideration public-safety issues, training requirements, and residents' past and likely future complaints. Through this process, it can prevent the waste of time and effort in determining an optimal location for a live fire shooing range.

Energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is one significant factor that needs to be considered when making any designs or doing any enhancements on the communication protocol stack. In WSNs using traditional geographic routing, when a sensor node receives a data packet that needs to be transmitted to the sink, it will forward the packet to the neighbor node which is closest to the sink. The traditional geographic routing assumes that the link quality is always 100%. This may cause a bad result as per which we waste too many energy for retransmissions between the two nodes. Thus, the problem here is how to select such node as forwarder at most efficiently in the aspect of both energy consumption and the distance toward the destination. The better node we choose, the more energy we can conserve for the whole network. In this paper, we propose a next-hop forwarding selection metric, called Energy Consumption for Transmission (ECT), which can resolve the above problem in the best way.
Fire, being primarily a natural phenomenon, is impossible to control, although it is feasible to map the forest fire risk zone, minimizing the frequency of fires. The spread of a fire starting in any stand in a forest can be predicted, given the burning conditions. The natural cover of the land and the safety of the population may be threatened by the spread of forest fires; thus, the prevention of fire damage requires early discovery. Satellite data and geographic information system (GIS) can be used effectively to combine different forest-fire-causing factors for mapping the forest fire risk zone. This study mainly focuses on mapping forest fire risk in the Madikhola watershed. The primary causes of forest fires appear to be human negligence, uncontrolled fire in nearby forests and agricultural regions, and fire for pastoral purposes which were used to evaluate and assign risk values to the mapping process. The majority of fires, according to MODIS events, occurred from December to April, with March recording the highest occurrences. The Risk Zonation Map, which was prepared using LULC, Forest Type, Slope, Aspect, Elevation, Road Proximity, and Proximity to Water Bodies, showed that a High Fire Risk Zone comprised 29% of the Total Watershed Area, followed by a Moderate Risk Zone, covering 37% of the total area. The derived map products are helpful to local forest managers to minimize fire risks within the forests and take proper responses when fires break out. This study further recommends including the fuel factor and other fire-contributing factors to derive a higher resolution of the fire risk map.
It is known that the role of informal support for elderly women is critical to their physical and mental health, adjustment in old age, and their overall life satisfaction. Elderly women's situation such as social losses, widowhood, living alone, and geographic relocation etc. may result in a need for more informal supports for elderly women's health than ever before. Particularly, women's same-sex friendships were rated higher for overall quality, intimacy, enjoyment, and nurturance. Unlike a generally accepted notion that later life for women is a time of isolation and loneliness, elderly women tend to maintain and reestablish their friendship regardless their marital status and living situation. Although studies on informal support for elderly women were inconclusive in many ways, elderly women's friendship tends to be stable despite of changing health status and life events. The relative importance between daughters and friends was also controversial. This study suggests that more research with reliable measurements is necessary for the practical prevention and intervention program of elderly women's health on this issue.
