An algorithm to automatically extract coordinate and time information from optical observation data of geostationary orbit satellites (GEO satellites) or geosynchronous orbit satellites (GOS satellites) is developed. The optical wide-field patrol system is capable of automatic observation using a pre-arranged schedule. Therefore, if this type of automatic analysis algorithm is available, daily unmanned monitoring of GEO satellites can be possible. For data acquisition for development, the COMS1 satellite was observed with 1-s exposure time and 1-m interval. The images were grouped and processed in terms of "action", and each action was composed of six or nine successive images. First, a reference image with the best quality in one action was selected. Next, the rest of the images in the action were geometrically transformed to fit in the horizontal coordinate system (expressed in azimuthal angle and elevation) of the reference image. Then, these images were median-combined to retain only the possible non-moving GEO candidates. By reverting the coordinate transformation of the positions of these GEO satellite candidates, the final coordinates could be calculated.
Remote seismic tomography is regarded as one of the most valuable geophysical technique for the estimation of the rock mass classification in the tunnel area where hard data information such as drill logs are absent. But the results of rock mass classification based on the remote seismic tomography tend to be overestimated in practice. In this study, we propose the effective method to implement the seismic reference velocity ratio based on semblance for the improvement of rock mass classification. Also, to verify its feasibility, proposed technique was tested by using the real field data.

In this research, an effective method for absolute positioning of feature points is proposed, which is applicable to geo-referencing of terrestrial LiDAR data scanned in dense urban areas. GPS positioning, common in absolute positioning, is apt to fail in the presence of signal disturbancein dense urban circumstances, while traditional surveying methods, including traversing and leveling, are generally more costly for wider areas. The idea is that reference points, marked on top of buildings, are surveyed by GPS positioning and then feature points are relatively positioned from the reference points. The present method, if laser scanning is accompanied, gets two advantages; one is that less feature points need to be surveyed because they can be substituredby reference points, and the other is that laser scanning can be more stably carried out. The present method was shown, from the experiments, to be cost-effective against traditional ones.
In this paper, we introduce a newly developed photogrammetric software for automatic generation of high quality geo-products and its performance assessment carried out using various satellite images. Our newly developed software provides the latest techniques of an optimized sensor modelling, ortho-image generation and automated Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generation for diverse remote sensing images. In particular, images from dual- and multi-sensor images can be integrated for 3D mapping. This can be a novel innovation toward a wider applicability of remote sensing data, since 3D mapping has been limited within only single-sensor so far. We used Kompsat-2, Ikonos, QuickBird, Spot-5 high resolution satellite images to test an accuracy of 3D points and ortho-image generated by the software. Outputs were assessed by comparing reliable reference data. From various sensor combinations 3D mapping were implemented and their accuracy was evaluated using independent check points. Model accuracy of 1~2 pixels or better was achieved regardless of sensor combination type. The high resolution ortho-image results are consistent with the reference map on a scale of 1:5,000 after being rectified by the software and an accuracy of 1~2 pixels could be achieved through quantitative assessment. The developed software offers efficient critical geo-processing modules of various remote sensing images and it is expected that the software can be widely used to meet the demand on the high-quality geo products.
Digital Twin for Land(DTL) is one of the national work projects in the Korean New Deal but there aren't still any standards and technical guides which would need to construct the DTL. This study presents the policies to develop reference model and data model based on geo-spatial information standards to ensure interoperability for the DTL. In this paper, we first extract the implications through reviewing definitions of Digital Twin used in various literatures and international standardization trends on Digital Twin. In addition, this study attempts to conceptualize the DTL through various ways such as defining the DTL and characterizing DTL domains. Finally, we propose three policies on the standardization of the DTS: (1) DTS reference model by using RM-ODP, (2) three-steps hierarchical data models, and (3) model registry to manage the data models efficiently. The proposed policies of the study would contribute to establish a way for DTS's standards development over the coming years.
This paper demonstrates Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has to be applied for development projects with regard to the ecological, economical and social aspects before any decisions made in the project. Korea has confronted various environmental problems during the last fifteen years, even though EIA has been enacted since 1981. The role of impact assessment in planning and policy processes should be emphasized to investigate the magnitude and intensity of the adverse influences of economic development. In the Seoul Metropolitan Region, it is necessary to apply EIA all urban projects to reduce the adverse effects of urbanization. Special attention should be given to the climatological effects throughout the urbanization process in Korea to keep the urban area energy-efficient. This study intends not only to establish basic data for national-and regional-based land-use policy in the environmental aspects, but also to provide the basic data for the possible climate model (scenarios) that may provide spatial and temporal variability by analyzing the actual climatic record. There is a noticeable impact of urbanization on the atmospheric environment in the Seoul Metropolitan Region. In this sense, the climatic aspect must be taken into consideration in the process of EIA to mitigate the well-known climatic alterations of urbanization. Moreover, the techniques of assessment should be improved by developing geo-reference data sets to build models of the global climate in response to the man-made environmental change.

The accurate geo-referencing processes that apply ground control points is prerequisite for effective end use of HRSI (High-resolution satellite imagery). Since the conventional control point acquisition by human operator takes long time, demands for the automated matching to existing reference data has been increasing its popularity. Among many options of reference data, the airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data shows high potential due to its high spatial resolution and vertical accuracy. Additionally, it is in the form of 3-dimensional point cloud free from the relief displacement. Recently, a new matching method between LiDAR data and HRSI was proposed that is based on the image projection of whole LiDAR data into HRSI domain, however, importing and processing the large amount of LiDAR data considered as time-consuming. Therefore, we wmotivated to ere propose a local LiDAR chip generation for the HRSI geo-referencing. In the procedure, a LiDAR point cloud was rasterized into an ortho image with the digital elevation model. After then, we selected local areas, which of containing meaningful amount of edge information to create LiDAR chips of small data size. We tested the LiDAR chips for fully-automated geo-referencing with Kompsat-2 and Kompsat-3 data. Finally, the experimental results showed one-pixel level of mean accuracy.

Rainfall-induced landslide disaster case histories are typically required to establish critical lines based on the decrease coefficient for judging the likelihood of slope collapse or failure; however, reliably setting critical lines is difficult because the number of nationwide disaster case histories is insufficient and not well distributed across the region. In this study, we propose a method for setting the critical area to judge the risk of slope collapse without disaster case history information. Past 10 years rainfall data based on decrease coefficient are plotted as points, and a reference line is established by connecting the outermost points. When realtime working rainfall cross the reference line, warning system is operating and this system can be utilized nationwide through setting of reference line for each AWS (Automatic Weather Station). Warnings were effectively predicted at 10 of the sites, and warnings could have been issued 30 min prior to the landslide movement at eight of the sites. These results indicate a reliability of about 67%. To more fully utilize this model, it is necessary to establish nationwide rainfall databases and conduct further studies to develop regional critical areas for landslide disaster prevention.

Open Data Cube(ODC) has been emerging and developing as the open source platform in the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites(CEOS) for the Global Earth Observation System of Systems(GEOSS) deployed by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), ODC can be applied to the deployment of scalable and large amounts of free and open satellite images in a cloud computing environment, and ODC-based country or regional application services have been provided for public users on the high performance. This study first summarizes the status of ODC, and then presents concepts and some considering points for linking this platform with Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) images. For the reference, the main contents of ODC with the Google Earth Engine(GEE) were compared. Application procedures of KOMPSAT satellite image to implement ODC service were explained, and an intermediate process related to data ingestion using actual data was demonstrated. As well, it suggested some practical schemes to utilize KOMPSAT satellite images for the ODC application service from the perspective of open data licensing. Policy and technical products for KOMPSAT images to ODC are expected to provide important references for GEOSS in GEO to apply new satellite images of other countries and organizations in the future.

In recent years, multi-camera systems have been recognized as an affordable alternative for the collection of 3D spatial data from physical surfaces. The collected data can be applied for different mapping(e.g., mobile mapping and mapping inaccessible locations)or metrology applications (e.g., industrial, biomedical, and architectural). In order to fully exploit the potential accuracy of these systems and ensure successful manipulation of the involved cameras, a careful system calibration should be performed prior to the data collection procedure. The calibration of a multi-camera system is accomplished when the individual cameras are calibrated and the geometric relationships among the different system components are defined. In this paper, a new single-step approach is introduced for the calibration of a multi-camera system (i.e., individual camera calibration and estimation of the lever-arm and boresight angles among the system components). In this approach, one of the cameras is set as the reference camera and the system mounting parameters are defined relative to that reference camera. The proposed approach is easy to implement and computationally efficient. The major advantage of this method, when compared to available multi-camera system calibration approaches, is the flexibility of being applied for either directly or indirectly geo-referenced multi-camera systems. The feasibility of the proposed approach is verified through experimental results using real data collected by a newly-developed indirectly geo-referenced multi-camera system.
