  • Geo-pointing is a function that maintains LOS(Line of Sight) to a stationary ground target by controlling azimuth and elevation angles of a EOS(Electro-Optical System) which are calculated from aircraft navigation data and target coordinates. In design and implementation of the geo-pointing, a transmission time delay between GPS/INS and EOS is a major degradation factor of the geo-pointing performance when the aircraft is rapidly maneuvered especially. In this paper, a kalman filter is designed to compensate the transmission time delay of aircraft navigation data. Simulation and test results show that the geo-pointing performance is enhanced by the proposed compensation technique.

  • 3D Geo-spatial information models have been widely used in the field of Civil Engineering, Medical, Computer Graphics, Urban Management and many other. Especially, in surveying and geo-spatial field, the demand for high quality 3D geospatial information and indoor spatial information is so highly increasing. However, it is so difficult to provide a low-cost and high efficiency service to the field which demand the highest quality of 3D model, because pre-constructed spatial data are composed of different formats and storage structures according to the application purpose of each institutes. In fact, the techniques to construct a high applicable 3D geo-spatial model is very expensive to collect and analyze geo-spatial data, but most demanders of 3D geo-spatial model never want to pay the high-cost to that. This study, therefore, suggest the effective way to construct 3D geo-spatial model with low-cost of construction. In general, the effective way to reduce the cost of constructing 3D geo-spatial model as presented in previous studies is to combine the raw data obtained from point cloud observatory and UAV imagery, however this method has some limitation of usage from difficulties to approve the use of raw data because of those have been managed separately by various institutes. To solve this problem, we developed the linking & management system for unifying a high-Resolution raw geo-spatial data based on the point cloud DB and apply this system to extract the basic database from 3D geo-spatial mode for the road database registration. As a result of this study, it can be provided six contents of main entries for road registration by applying the developed system based on the point cloud DB.

  • GeoRSS is RSS which contains geospatial information, and it supports to supply diverse kinds of data through mash-up map service like the google map. It helps to implement efficient web service with simple java-scripts, but sometimes initial page loading takes too much time and causes heavy traffic when it includes lots of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose a splitting method of GeoRSS for fast accessing. As the result of experiments, we achieved improvement of browsing speed and reducing of initial data traffic.

  • With the development of mobile devices and global positioning systems, various location-based services can be utilized, which collects user's location information and provides services based on it. In this process, there is a risk of personal sensitive information being exposed to the outside, and thus Geo-indistinguishability (Geo-Ind), which protect location privacy of LBS users by perturbing their true location, is widely used. However, owing to the data perturbation mechanism of Geo-Ind, it is hard to accurately obtain the density distribution of LBS users from the collection of perturbed location data. Thus, in this paper, we aim to develop a novel method which enables to effectively compute the user density distribution from perturbed location dataset collected under Geo-Ind. In particular, the proposed method leverages Expectation-Maximization(EM) algorithm to precisely estimate the density disribution of LBS users from perturbed location dataset. Experimental results on real world datasets show that our proposed method achieves significantly better performance than a baseline approach.

  • Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) has kept the largest amount of gene-expression microarray data that have grown exponentially. Microarray data in GEO have been generated in many different formats and often lack standardized annotation and documentation. It is hard to know if preprocessing has been applied to a dataset or not and in what way. Standard-based integration of heterogeneous data formats and metadata is necessary for comprehensive data query, analysis and mining. We attempted to integrate the heterogeneous microarray data in GEO based on Minimum Information About a Microarray Experiment (MIAME) standard. We unified the data fields of GEO Data table and mapped the attributes of GEO metadata into MIAME elements. We also discriminated non-preprocessed raw datasets from others and processed ones by using a two-step classification method. Most of the procedures were developed as semi-automated algorithms with some degree of text mining techniques. We localized 2,967 Platforms, 4,867 Series and 103,590 Samples with covering 279 organisms, integrated them into a standard-based relational schema and developed a comprehensive query interface to extract. Our tool, GEOQuest is available at http://www.snubi.org/software/GEOQuest/.

  • Normally, a digital geologic map can be defined as mappable one whose spatial information with geographic information details and geologic database attribute, recorded in a digital format that is readable by computer. It shows fundamentally two different conceptual perspectives: cartography for digital mapping and analysis for geo-data processing. While, as both aspects basically relate to natural entities and their interpretation of complex features fused with multi-sources, digital geo-data mapping or geologic mapping, it should be distinguished from digital mapping in engineering such as UIS(Urban Infomation System) and AM/FM(Automated Mapping/Facilities Management). Furthermore, according to short-cycled development of GIS(Geographic Information System) software architecture based on IT(Information Technology) and wide expansion of GIS applications' fields, the importance of domain analysis and application model is emphasized at digital geologic informatizaion. In this paper, first terms and concepts of geo-data model with general data modeling aspects are addressed, and then case histories for geo-data modeling and several approaches for data modeling in GIS application fields are discussed. Lastly, tentative conceptual geo-data modeling by using UML(Unified Modeling Language) of OO(Object-oriented) concepts with respect to USGS/AASG geo-data mode is attempted. Through this approach, the main benefits for standardization and implementation lineage with conceptual model in consideration to reusability are expected. Conclusively, it is expected that geo-information system and its architecture by UML is the new coming key approach for the GIS application in geo-sciences.

  • The national ground survey database (GeoInfo) distributes numerous ground survey data nationwide. Many standard penetration test results exist in this database; however, the number of shear wave velocity (VS) data is small. Hence, to use abundant standard penetration test-N values to predict VS, this study proposed a new empirical N-VS relationship model using GeoInfo data. The proposed N-VS model is a single equation regardless of geological layer types; the layer type only specifies the upper limit of VS. To validate the proposed model, residual analysis was performed using a test dataset that was not used for the model development. Therefore, this study's proposed model performed better than N-VS models from previous studies. Since the N-VS model in this study was developed using sufficient data from GeoInfo, we expect that it is the most applicable to GeoInfo dataset for VS prediction.

  • For the reliable prediction of spatial geotechnical data, a procedure to build the Geotechnical Information System (GTIS) based on geo-knowledge within the frame of GIS technology was developed by introducing a couple of new concepts of the extended area containing the study area and the additional site visit for acquiring surface geological data. To build the GTIS for Gyeongju as the case study of regional model application, intensive site investigations and pre-existing geotechnical data collections were performed and additional site visit was also carried out for acquiring surface geo-layer data in accordance with the developed procedure. Within the GTIS based on geo-knowledge for Gyeongiu area, the spatially distributed geo-layers across the extended area were predicted using the geostatistical kriging method and those for the study area were extracted. Furthermore, the spatial distribution maps for the thickess of geo-layers and the depth to bedrock were constructed for the practical use in geotechnical field. It was evaluated that the GTIS based on geo-knowledge developed in this study is superior to the conventional geotechnical GIS in terms of both the standard deviation and the geological expert judgment.

  • This paper documents recent efforts to validate the GIS-based hydrologic models, HEC-HMS and HEC-GeoHMS by the US Army Corps of Engineers. HMS and Geo-HMS were used to simulate storm runoff from a small rural watershed, the Balan HS#6. The watershed is 3.85 $\textrm{km}^2$ in size. The watershed topographic, soils, and land use data were processed using the GIS tool fur the models. Input parameters were retrieved and calibrated with the field data. The simulated peak runoff, time to peak, and total direct runoff fer twenty three storms were compared with the observed data. The results showed that the coefficient of determination($R^2$) for the observed peak runoff was 0.95 and an error, RMSE, 3.08 $\textrm{m}^3$/s for calibration stages. In the model verifications, $R^2$ was 0.89 and RMSE 6.79 $\textrm{m}^3$/s, which were slightly less accurate than the calibrated data. The simulated flood hydrographs were well compared to the observed. It was concluded that HMS and GeoHMS are applicable to flood analyses for rural watersheds.
