  • Trichomes found in the genus Cimicifuga were examined with scanning electron microscopy. Four basic types of trichomes were found in the genus; (1) filiform unicellular trichomes, (2) saccate unicellular trichomes, (3) pyriform unicellular trichomes, and (4) uniseriate multicellular trichomes. All the taxa examined develop at least two different types of trichomes, and many taxa are distinguished by differences in type, microornamentation, density, and position of trichomes. In addition, trichome features appear to be very useful in recognizing species relationships in the genus.

  • The taxonomy of marine littoral species of the genus Medon Stephens in Korea is presented. The genus and two species-Medon prolixus (Sharp) and M. rubeculus Sharp-are identified for the first time in the Korean Peninsula. Redescriptions of M. prolixus and M. rubeculus with an illustration of its habitus and line drawings are provided.

  • Let M be a compact orientable closed 3-manifold, and F a non-separating incompressible closed surface in M. Let M' = M - ${\eta}(F)$, where ${\eta}(F)$ is an open regular neighborhood of F in M. In the paper, we give a lower bound of genus of self-amalgamation of minimal Heegaard splitting $V'\;{\cup}_{S'}\;W'$ of M' under some conditions on the distance of the Heegaard splitting.

  • The genus Oithona was investigated taxonomically in samples collected from 10 regions of the Korean waters. In result, 18 species of the genus Oithona were identified, and a key table on 18 species was given. Of these following nine species were new records for Korean waters: Oithona atlantica, 0 . attenuata, 0 . davisae, 0. hamata, 0. longispina, 0 . oculata, 0 . simplex, 0. tenuis, 0. vivida.

  • The genus Sciasmomyia (Diptera: Lauxaniidae) was discovered for the first time in Korea. This Old World (PA and OR) genus currently includes two nominal species. In the process of revising Korean Lauxaniidae, we were able to collect Korean representatives of Sciasmomyia supraorientalis, and provide the redescriptions and illustrations of both sexes.

  • After the previous paper, this chromosomal studies on the fungi were dealt with 17 species in genus of Rhizopus. The results are sumarized as the followings; The haploid chromosome number of 17 species were confirmed as of 6(Rh. oligosporus), 8(Rh. homothallicus, Rh. liquefaciens, Rh. shanghaiensis, Rh, acetorinus), 12(Rh. microsporus, Rh. pseudochinensis, Rh, rhizopodiformis, Rh, thermosus, and Rh. kazanensis), 14(Rh. stolonifer), and 16(Rh. suinus), respectively. Referring to the above fact and the previous paper, it is strongly presumed that the basic chromosome number of Rhizopus are 4.

  • Sperm morphology of ho species (hpodemus agrarius coreae and Apodemus peninsulae peninsulae) of the genus Apodrmus in Korea was investigated. Two species were similar in six qualitative characters, i. e., head shape, presence of apical ridge, process, cone-like process, and mitochondrial sheath, and the degree of development in outer dense Hber, Lengths of head and midpiece were not different with each other, but length of principal plus end piece was significantly larger (P ≪ 0.001) in hpodemus agrarius coreae than that in hpodemus peninsular peninsulae.

  • A geometrid genus Pareulype Herbulot sensu Inoue (1977) is reviewed in Korea. Up to now, two species, P. taczanowskiaria (Oberthur) and P. onoi Inoue, were known from Korea and these two species were newly combined into another genus Pelurga Hubner. One Pareulype species, P. consanguinea (Butler), is first recognized from Korea throughout the present study. Diagnoses of each genus and species are provided with illustrations of adults and genitalia. Phylogenetic relationship of Pareulype and Pelurga Hubner is briefly discussed.

  • Spongicola tropicanus, a new genus and species of the family Eunicicolidae, and Asterocheres brevisurculus, a new species of the family Asterocheridae, are described as copepods associated with the sponge Phyllospongia foliascens (Pallas) from the Moluccas. Spongicola is the second genus of the family and may be characterized by a two-segmented prosome, the absence of leg 3, and the presence of leg 5. Asterocheres brevisurculus may be charecterized by one-segmented mandibular palp, short oral siphon, and 19-segmented female antennule.
