Gentian plants (Gentiana spp.) showing yellow ringspot, mosaic, necrotic fleck and malformation were collected from their growing areas in Taegu, Kyungpook province and Alpine Agricultural Experiment Station, Korea. Three viruses isolated from the naturally infected gentian were identified as broad bean wilt virus (BBWV), cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and clover yellow vein virus identified as broad bean wilt virus (CIYVV) by their host range, immunosorbent electron microscopy (ISEM) and electron microscopy. Electron microscopic examination of negatively stained preparations showed that BBWV and CMV are spherical particles of 28 nm and 30 nm in diameter, and CIYVV is filamentous particles of ca. 780 nm in length. By ISEM, BBWV was detected mainly in gentian showing yellow ringspot and mottle, CIYVV in necrotic fleck leaf of gentian and CMV in narrow and distorted mosaic leaf of gentian. BBWV and CMV are the most prevalent in the cultivated gentian. In ultrathin sections of BBWV infected tissues, large aggregates of crystalline array of virus particles and vesicular body were found in the cytoplasm and vacuole of mesophyll cells. In case of CIYVV, pinwheel- and laminated aggregate-type inclusions as well as filamentous virus particles were observed in the cytoplasm of mesophyll cells.

용담 신품종 '스카이호프(Skyhope)'는 청색 꽃을 가진 가진 Jinbu-1와 Jinbu-4호를 2000년에 교배하여 선발하였다. 화색은 진한 청색(VB 96A)으로 '횡계1호(VB96B)'보다 진했으며, 꽃잎에 반점이 없다. 꽃대 줄기는 자주색을 띠며 잎 모양은 피침형이다. 꽃은 밤에 반폐쇄형이고 위와 아래에서 거의 동시 개화하는 특성을 가지고 있다. 초장은 68.1 cm 정도이고, 화경수도 5.3개로 적었으며, 화단수와 화수는 각각 5.9개, 32.2개로 나타났다. 개화는 7월 상순부터 하순까지 하였으며, 전 지역에서 '횡계 1호'보다 15-20일 정도 빠르게 피었다.

Mt. Dae-Am is the branch-range of DMZ located on the $38^{\circ}7'$ N KangWon-Do in South Korea. The resources of important Herbal medicine (medicinal plants) were Phacellanthus tubiflorus (fam.: Orobanchaceae), Ostericum maximowiczii, Dendranthemum zawadskii Herbich f. latifolium, D. zawadskii subsp. acutilobum, D. var. campanulatum, Halenia corniculata (fam.: gentianaceae), Prunus mandshurica var. glabra, Acanthopanax divaricatus f. inermis. A. chiisanense, A. sessiliflorum, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Bupleurum longeradiatum, Heracleum moellendorffii sub-spp. subbipinnatum, Sanicula rubriflora, Spuriopimpinella bracycarpa f. latifolia, Angelico gigas, Artemisia montana, A. stelleriana, Paeonia japonica, Phellodendron amurense, Schizandra chinensis, Menyanthes trifoliata, and Gentiana axillariflora var. coreana, etc.

용담 신품종 “스카이블루볼(Skyblueball)”은 청색 꽃을 가진 Jinbu-65호를 모본으로 하고 역시 청색 꽃을 가진 Jinbu-1호를 부본으로 하여 2000년에 교배하여 선발하였다. 그 후 조직배양을 통해 증식후 2002년부터 지역적응성 검정까지 5년에 걸쳐 그 특성이 조사되었다. 화색은 연한 청색(VB 96C)으로 횡계1호(VB96B)보다 밝으며 꽃잎에 반점이 없다. 꽃대 줄기는 자주색을 띠며 잎 모양은 피침형이다. 꽃은 밤에 반폐쇄형이고 거의 동시에 개화하는 습성을 가지고 있는 것이 특징이다. 반면 횡계1호는 아래부터 위로 개화하는 습성이 있다. 초장은 62.9 cm로 횡계1호보다 약간 작고 주당 화경수는 8.3개로 약간 많은 편이다. 화경당 화단수는 5.3단으로 같으며 화경당 화수는 21. 7개로 횡계1호의 36.0개 보다 14개 정도 적다(Table 2). 개화기는 대관령이 7월 26일, 진부가 8월 3일, 남원도 8월 3일 그리고 제주도가 6월 28일로 가장 빨리 피어, 전 지역에서 횡계1호 보다 빨리 핀다.
