Genetic variants of Hanwoo mtDNA in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit I, II and III complex were detected using restriction enzymes. PCR primers were designed based on the bovine mtDNA sequence, and 6 primer sets (Mt4, Mt5, Mt6, Mt7, Mt8 and Mt9) were used. A total of 20 restriction enzymes were used, and 6 restriction enzymes, which were Hinf I, Pvu II, Rsa I, Eco RI, Bgl II, and Msp I, showed genetic polymorphisms. Significant associations between genetic variants and weight traits were observed at WT15 (p<0.05) and WT18 (p<0.01) with Pvu II for Mt9, Bgl II for Mt6 and Rsa I for Mt8 segments in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit complex. Significant associations were also observed at Mt9-Pvu II and Mt6-Bgl II segments for WT9 (p=0.01), WT12 (p=0.02), respectively. These results suggest that genetic variants of mtDNA in the region of cytochrome oxidase subunit complex may be candidate segments for improvement of animal growth as weight traits.

In this study, the problems in the short term stock market forecasting are analyzed and the feasibility of the ARIMA method and the backpropagation neural network is discussed. Neural network and genetic algorithm in short term stock forecasting is also examined. Since the backpropagation algorithm often falls into the local minima trap, we optimized the backpropagation neural network and established a genetic algorithm based on backpropagation neural network for forecasting model in order to achieve high forecasting accuracy. The experiments adopted the korea composite stock price index series to make prediction and provided corresponding error analysis. The results show that the genetic algorithm based on backpropagation neural network model proposed in this study has a significant improvement in stock price index series forecasting accuracy.

For optimal production of recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) in E. coli the effect of fermentation conditions on cell growth, IL-2 production, and stability of recombinant cells were investigated. Among the complex nutrients tested in this work, yeast extract, peptone and corn steep liquor were found to be effective for recombinant cell growth. The recombinant cells were maintained stably under repression condition (3$0^{\circ}C$), but the stability of recombinant cells were drastically reduced upon induction of IL-2 expression (42$^{\circ}C$) even under the selection pressure. Addition of antibiotics to the culture medium resulted in the cell growth inhibition without significant improvement in recombinant stability. When the expression of IL-2 gene was induced at different growth phases, highest IL-2 production was achieved by the induction of IL-2 at the middle-exponential growth phase. It was found that the production of IL-2 significantly inhibited the cell growth and the ex-pression of other genes in the plasmid.
In genetic algorithms with lotus-based encoding, static gene reordering is to locate the highly related genes closely together. It helps the genetic algorithms to create and preserve the schema of high-quality effectively. In this paper, we propose a static reordering framework for linear locus-based encoding. It differs from existing reorderings in that it is independent of problem-specific knowledge. It makes a complete graph where weights represent the interelationship between each pair of genes. And, it transforms the graph into a unweighted sparse graph by choosing the edges having relatively high weight. It finds a gene reordering by graph search method. Through the wide experiments about several problems, the method proposed in this paper shows significant performance improvement as compared with the genetic algorithm that does not rearrange genes.

This paper proposes a novel optimum design method for the PID controller of magnetic levitation-based Rail-Guided Vehicle(RGV) by a genetic algorithm using clone selection method and a new performance index function with performances of both time and frequency domain. Generally, since an attraction type levitation system is intrinsically unstable and requires a delicate controller that is designed considering overshoot and settling time, it is difficult to completely satisfy the desired performance through the methods designed by conventional performance indexes. In the paper, the conventional performance indexes are analyzed and then a new performance index for Maglev-based RGV is proposed. Also, an advanced genetic algorithm which is designed using clonal selection algorithm for performance improvement is proposed. To verify the proposed algorithm and the performance index, we compare the proposed method with a simple genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization. The simulation results show that the proposed method is more effective than conventional optimization methods.

Adaptation of operator probabilities is one of the most important and promising issues in evolutionary computation areas. This is because the setting of appropriate probabilities is not only very tedious and difficult but very important to the performance improvement of genetic algorithms. Many researchers have introduced their algorithms for setting or adapting operator probabilities. Experimental results in most previous works, however, have not been satisfiable. Moreover, Tuson have insisted that “the adaptation is not necessarily a good thing” in his papers[$^1$$^2$]. In this paper, we propose a self-tuning scheme for adapting operator probabilities in genetic algorithms. Our scheme was extensively tested on four function optimization problems and one combinational problem; and compared to simple genetic algorithms with constant probabilities and adaptive genetic algorithm proposed by Srinivas et al[$^3$]. Experimental results showed that our scheme was superior to the others. Our scheme compared with previous works has three advantages: less computational efforts, co-evolution without additional operations for evolution of probabilities, and no need of additional parameters.
Companies are responding appropriately to the rapidly changing business environment and striving to lead those changes. As part of that, we are meeting our strategic goals through IT projects, which increase the number of simultaneous projects and the importance of project portfolio management for successful project execution. It also strives for efficient deployment of human resources that have the greatest impact on project portfolio management. In the early stages of project portfolio management, it is very important to establish a reasonable manpower plan and allocate performance personnel. This problem is a problem that can not be solved by linear programming because it is calculated through the standard deviation of the input ratio of professional manpower considering the uniformity of load allocated to the input development manpower and the importance of each project. In this study, genetic algorithm, one of the heuristic methods, was applied to solve this problem. As the objective function, we used the proper input ratio of projects, the input rate of specialist manpower for important projects, and the equal load of workload by manpower. Constraints were not able to input duplicate manpower, Was used as a condition. We also developed a program for efficient application of genetic algorithms and confirmed the execution results. In addition, the parameters of the genetic algorithm were variously changed and repeated test results were selected through the independent sample t test to select optimal parameters, and the improvement effect of about 31.2% was confirmed.

Beacon signals used in indoor positioning system are reflected and distorted, resulting in noise signals. KF(Kalman Filter) has been widely used to remove this noise. In order to apply the KF, optimization process considering the signal type, signal strength, and environmental elements of each product is required. In this paper, we propose a solution to the optimization problem of KF Parameters using GA(Genetic Algorithm) in BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) Beacon-based indoor positioning system. After optimizing KF Parameters by applying the proposed technique with a certain distance between Beacon and receiver, we compared the estimated distance passed through KF with the unfiltered distance. The proposed technique is expected to reduce the time required and improve accuracy of KF Parameters optimization in an indoor positioning system based on RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication).

In this study, we propose a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the allocation and operation order of transporters. The solution in the GA is represented by a set of lists each of which the operation order of the corresponding transporter. In addition, it was implemented in the form of a hybrid genetic algorithm combining effective local search operations for performance improvement. The local search reduces the number of operating transporters by moving blocks from a transporter with a low workload into that with a high workload. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it was compared with Multi-Start and a pure genetic algorithm through a simulation environment similar in scale to an actual shipyard. For the largest problem, compared to them, the number of transporters was reduced by 40% and 34%, and the total task time was reduced by 27% and 17%, respectively.
Objective: The objective of this study was to obtain (co) variance components and genetic parameter estimates for post-weaning body measurements such as body length (BL), height at withers (HW), and chest girth (HG) recorded at six (SBL, SHW, and SHG), nine (NBL, NHW, and NHG) and twelve (YBL, YHW, and YHG) months of age along with yearling weight (YW) in Nellore sheep maintained at livestock research station, Palamaner, Andhra Pradesh, India and also the association among body measurements with YW was studied. Methods: Data on 2,076 Nellore sheep (descended from 75 sires and 522 dams) recorded between 2007 and 2016 (10 years) were utilized in the study. Lambing year, sex of lamb, season of lambing and parity of dam were included in the model as fixed effects and ewe weight was kept as a covariate. Analyses were conducted with six animal models with different combinations of direct and maternal genetic effects using restricted maximum likelihood procedure. Best model for each trait was determined based on Akaike's information criterion. Results: Moderate estimates of direct heritability were obtained for the studied traits viz., BL (0.02 to 0.24), HW (0.31 to 0.49), and CG (0.08 to 0.35) and their corresponding maternal heritability estimates were in the range of 0.00 to 0.07 (BL), 0.13 to 0.17 (HW), and 0.07 to 0.13 (CG), respectively. Positive direct genetic and phenotypic correlations among the traits and they ranged from 0.07 (YBL-YW) to 0.99 (SBL-SHG, SHG-YW, and NBL-YBL) and 0.01 (SBL-YBL) to 0.99 (NBL-NHG), respectively. Further, the genetic correlations among all the body measurements and YW were positive and ranged from 0.07 (YW and YBL) to 0.99 (YW and SHG). Conclusion: There was a strong association of chest girth at six months with YW. Further, it is indicated that moderate improvement of post-weaning body measurements in Nellore sheep would be possible through selection.
