Pattern of partial discharge for stator windings fault of high voltage motor (고압전동기 고정자권선 결함 부분방전패턴)

  • During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) measurements were performed with turbine generator analyzer(TGA) in imitation stator winding of high voltage motors. The motor was energized to 4.47kV, 6.67, respectively. Applied voltage to Imitation winding was used two voltage level, 4.47[kV] and 6.67[kV]. Motors having imitation stator winding were installed with 80pF capacitive couplers at the terminal box. Case of PD Pattern regarding applied voltage phase angel, the PD patterns were displayed two dimensional and three dimensional. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). As the result, we could discrimidate using TGA the difference of internal and surface discharge for imitation stator winding. We have used the other technique, in order to feature extraction of faulty signals on stator winding, Daubechies Discrete wavelet transform and Harmonics analysis(FFT) about faulty signals.

  • This paper presents a novel method for the transient of eddy currents in the dampers of a super-conducting synchronous generator(SCG). The method proposes a 2-D corrected model which takes into account the influence of leakage fluxes of the field winding ends by increasing the effective air gap in order to consider the high precision of the analysis for the conventional 2-D model. The electromagnetic fields for the corrected model are analyzed by the time-stepping finite element method, thus the eddy currents in the dampers and electro-motive forces(EMF) in the stator windings are calculated. As the results, it is proved the presented method is comparatively accurate by comparing measured phase EMF values and the simulation ones, where about 6.4% error at the maximum value of EMF is occurred between them.

  • 35년 이상 동안 운전된 2대의 가스터빈 발전기(70 MVA, 13.8 kV) 고정자 권선의 절연상태를 평가하기 위해 정지중 절연진단 시험을 수행하였다. 성극지수, 교류전류, 유전정접 및 부분방전 크기 등을 측정한 결과 모두 양호하여 절연상태가 매우 건전하게 평가되었다. 유전정접이 서서히 증가하는 전압이 부분방전 개시전압과 거의 일치하며, 이 전압은 다시 제1차 전류 급증점 보다는 3 kV정도 낮게 분석되었다. 그리고 발전기 고정자 권선의 부분방전 패턴은 내부방전으로 분석되었다.

  • The thermal impact of mica/epoxy paper(130${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) is investigated using XRD, DSC and TGL X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis was performed to know the position and structure of mica crystal in insulation materials. A differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) was used to measure glass transition temperature and excess enthalphy of the composite materials that had been subjected to thermal aging. The glass transition temperature(T$_{g}$) measured by DSC is observed at 95.43$^{\circ}C$ and 113.43$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The T$_{g}$ also increases with increased aging time. Measurements performed by TGA(thermogravimetric analysis) have showed that weight loss profile of sound specimens are lower than those aged.ged.

  • 발전기 회전자와 고정자 사이에 유기되는 전자력은 발전기 운전중 진동 피로 현상을 유발시켜 발전기 수명 저감의 요인이 된다. 특히 고정자 코어부에 비해 기계적 구속력이 비교적 약한 권선 단말부에서의 진동은 냉각수 누수, 권선 마멸등에 의한 2차 사고를 유발시킬수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 국내 발전소에서 운전중인 발전기를 중심으로 수행한 제작사별 고정자 권선의 진동 특성을 비교 분석하였다.

  • This paper was practiced insulation failure test forcing to accelerate on frequency of 420 HZ. There was manufactured generator stator windings for 500MVA thermal plants and selected accelerating deterioration voltage of 5.5kV/mm for electrical aging. Moreover, so as to verification of this experiments, we carried out modeling analysis due to finite element method using to ANSYS5.0 program for common package and imitated multi-stress aging for analyzing electrical and mechanical stress distribution.

  • Mechanical and electrical properties of mica/epoxy composite materials were investigated by dynamic mechanical analyzer(DMA) and dielectric analysis (DMA). Both modulus and permittivity of sound specimens were higher than those of aged specimens. Two results show that $tan{\delta}$ of sound specimens is lower than that of aged specimens. DMA results showed that glass transition temperatures of sound and aged specimens are observed to be $87.16^{\circ}C$ and $88.38^{\circ}C$, which increases with the increase of aging time.

  • During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) measurements were peformed with turbine generator analyzer(TGA) in two high voltage motors(rated 6.6 kV). These high voltage motors were installed with 80 pF capacitive couplers at the terminal box. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude (Qm). The trend analyses of NQN and $Q_m$ value are available for monitoring of the insulation condition in stator windings of high voltage motors.

  • A 1MW class HTS(High-Temperature Superconducting) synchronous motor has been developed. This motor was aimed to be utilized for industrial application such as large motors operating in large plants. The HTS field windings of the developed motor is cooled by way of Neon thermosiphon mechanism and the stator coil is cooled by water through hollow copper conductor. This paper describes performance test results of our motor, which was conducted at steady state in generator mode and motor mode.

A Study on the Breakdown Mechanism of Rotating Machine Insulation

  • A lot of experiments and analyses have been done to determine the aging mechanism of mica-epoxy composite material used for large generator stator windings in order to estimate remaining life of the generator for last decades. After degrading artificially the mica-epoxy composite material, the surface analysis is performed to analyze breakdown mechanism of insulation in air and hydrogen atmosphere; i) In the case of air atmosphere, it is observed that an aging propagation from conductor to core by partial discharge effect and the formation of cracks between layers is widely carbonized surface. ii) In case of hydrogen atmosphere, the partial discharge effect is reduced by the hydrogen pressure (4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$). Potassium ions forming a sheet of mica is replaced by hydrogen ions, which can lead to microcracks. It is confirmed that the sizes of crack by SEM analysis are 10∼20[$\mu\textrm{m}$] in length under air, and 1∼5[$\mu\textrm{m}$] in diameter, 10∼50[$\mu\textrm{m}$] in length under hydrogen atmosphere respectively. The breakdown mechanism of sttor winding insulation materials which are composed of mica-epoxy is analyzed by the component of materials with EDS, SEM techniques. We concluded that the postassium ions of mica components are replaced by H\ulcorner, H$_3$O\ulcorner at boundary area of mica-epoxy and/or mica-mica. It is proposed that through these phenomena, the conductive layers of potassium enable creation of voids and cracks due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and environmental stresses.
