  • The effect of sensor faults in direct torque control(DTC) based induction motor drives is analyzed and a new Instrument fault detection isolation scheme(IFDIS) is proposed. The proposed IFDIS, which operated in real-time, detects and isolates the incipient fault(s) of speed sensor and current sensors that provide the feedback information. The scheme consists of an adaptive gain scheduling observer as a residual generator and a special sequential test logic unit. The observer provides not only the estimate of stator flux, a key variable in DTC system, but also the estimates of stator current and rotor speed that are useful for fault detection. With the test logic, the IFDIS has the functionality of fault isolation that only multiple estimator based IFDIS schemes can have. Simulation results for various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the IFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • The energy storage systems are being widely researched for the electric power. The operations running in a vacuum chamber mainly consists of a composite flywheel rotor, superconductor bearings, a motor/generator and its controller. Among composed the apparatus, the floating magnet bearing consists of the ring-type permanent magnets with epoxy resin impregnation for reinforcement and surface protection. In order to storage as much energy as possible, the flywheel is supposed to be rotated with very high speed. The magnetic field is analyzed by using the Maxwell 2D/3D for the simulations.

  • In this paper, an active magnetic bearing-based motor-generator(M-G) system is designed and controlled using a digital PID control concept. The plant dynamics consisting of actuator and rigid rotor dynamics are described. And some experiments are conducted with each global control and local control concept. From the whirl test, the M-G set can be controlled within about ${\pm}10{\mu}m$ gap variation at the rotational speed of 6000rpm.

  • The railway characteristic, which is concerned, as most utilities is unbalance produced by the large single-phase loads. Here are two theoretical concerns associated with unbalanced loads. First, generator rotor heating resulting from unbalanced current flow, Second, there is the possibility of motor overheating in industrial plants, due to the unbalanced voltage. Therefore, the exact assessment of the voltage unbalance must be carried out preferentially as well as load forecast at stages of designing and planning for the electric railway system. This paper proposes a new analysis model to more effectively estimate voltage unbalance. Numerous distributed circuits in the electric railway system are composed by components. The entire system can be easily modeled by the combination of four-port representation of each component in parallel and/or series. Simulation results using the model are compared with field data, and it verifies the accuracy of the proposed model.

Fuzzy Control Strategy for Damping Sub-Synchronous Resonance

  • Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) is a phenomenon that harms turbine generator shafts because the phenomenon induces sub-synchronous wavering in the system. In the study presented in this paper, a dynamic resistance bank is used to mitigate the occurrence of sub-synchronous phenomenon. A fuzzy logic controller using rotor speed deviation and its derivative as inputs is implemented to damp sub-synchronous oscillations more efficiently. An eigenvalue technique is used to analyse the stability of the system, and a simulation in MATLAB is conducted, based on the IEEE Second Benchmark, to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method under a 3-phase fault condition at an infinite bus. The time-domain simulation and eigenvalues are used to observe the proposed method's superior ability to damp sub-synchronous oscillation.

  • A turbogenertor without damper cage is divided into five regions according to compoding materials in the radial direcrion. And the electric and magnetic field of each region in the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) phenomena is analyzed in this paper. The analytical method is based on solving a boundary value problem involving a three-dimensional magnetic diffrsion equation and the basic function consists of the double Fourier series. And the electrical characteristics of the material and kthickness of the wedges inserted in slot of the region III, which is dependent on frequency, is to be investigated.

  • The wind turbine captures the wind's kinetic energy in a rotor consisting of two or more blades mechanically coupled to an electrical generator. In this paper is proposed models for wind energy power plants using V.A.W.T. and complex concepts using shapes of a half cylinder for blades. A familiar configuration for a drag-type wind machine is shown this paper. In this simple machine, kinetic energy in the wind is converted into mechanical energy in a vertical rotating shaft.

  • In this paper, as a part of the method improving stability, the load-flow calculation in D.C. power system and the models for stability analysis are studied with A.C-D.C. interconnected power systems transmission performed. Moreover, the theory is established in relation to each control method of D.C. power systems. Then the stability of A.C-D.C.interconnected power systems is compared and considered by the way of dividing the operating control method of the rectifier inverter converter into ACR-AVR, APR-A.gamma.R, A.alpha.R-ACR. The dynamics characteristic of terminal voltage, frequency, active-reactive power and rotor angle of the generator with disturbances and load fluctuations is considered. In addition, the characteristic of direct voltage, direct current, power and control systems. From this the comparative analysis of the direct current control method, the possibility of the stability analysis of A.C.-D.C. interconnected power system is considered.   • In this paper, an active magnetic bearing(AMB) system is designed and controlled using a digital Proportional-Integral-Derivative(PID) control concept. The plant dynamics consisting of actuator and rigid rotor dynamics are described. A digital PID controller with a global control and a local control concept is designed and implemented using digital signal processor. Some experiments are conducted with each global control and local control concept. These include start-up test, impulse test, whirl response, and generator load test. The experimental results and comparison between those of a global control and a local control indicate that the global control of concept has impressive static and dynamic control performance for the prototype considered. From the whirl test, the developed system set can be controlled within about $\pm10\mu\textrm{m}$ gap variation at the rotational speed of 6000rpm and generate the AC power of frequency of $60\textrm{Hz}$, voltage of 100V and current of 0.8$\textit{A}$.

  • 발전기 회전자 권선에 종종 발생하는 층간단락 현상을 찾아내는 진단기법에는 크게 두가지가 있으며, 정지중 진단기법인 분담전압 시험과 운전중 진단기법인 flux probe 시험이다. 본 논문에서는 서인천복합화력발전소 #2 스팀터빈 발전기에 대하여 분담전압 및 flux probe 시험을 시행하여 회전자 권선의 건전성을 확인하고, 그 결과를 상호 비교, 분석하여 정지중 및 운전중 진단기법의 신뢰성을 평가하였다.
