  • In the present research, the exclusive analysis system based on the CFD method were suggested to predict the fire-suppression performance of water mist fire-suppression equipments for design applications. The computing scope is ranged from starting pump to fire-suppression equipments, composed of three parts that calculation of flow rate and pressure distribution at each nozzle, examining of spray performance and predicting of fire-suppression performance in the fire space. Application were done to the fire-suppression system for electric power generation plants. The results were analyzed by comparison between numerical results and initial design conditions in terms of thermal and fluid mechanics.

  • Design life-time of a wind turbine is required to be at least 20 years. In the meantime, the wind turbine will experience a lot of load cases such as extreme loads and fatigue loads which will include several typhoons per year and extreme gusts with 50 years recurrence period as well as endless turbulence flow. Therefore, IEC61400-1 specifies design load cases to be considered in the wind turbine design and requires the wind turbine to withstand the load cases in various operational situations. This paper investigates the ultimate loads which the wind turbine will experience for 20 years and their characteristics based on the IEC61400-1 using an aero-elastic software, GH-Bladed. And the performance characteristics of a wind turbine such as electrical power generation and annual energy yield are also investigated.

  • For the next generation wireless systems, multimedia services will be highly demanded and needed to transmit the cost-efficient packet data. With this regard, the adaptive resource management methods are preferable to optimally control the various traffic classes in OFDMA (WiBro) systems. We have developed a sub-channel state prediction method based on the past sub-channel state dependency. Using the method, we are developed a scheduling algorithm that can efficiently control multimedia traffic downlink transmissions.

  • There are many moving-body problems to be solved, the solution of which necessary for proper design of flight vehicles in aerospace industry. Since a body moves relative to other bodies in the category of these problems, difficulty arises regarding both generation of computational grid around the body in motion and conservation of flow properties in the moving grid system. A few example could be store separation from the aircraft and relative vibration of multiple bodies in the high-speed flow passage. In this paper we report on the progress made in computing moving-body aerodynamics related with sabot separation characteristics. Conservative overlapping grid together with cell-merging-unmerging technique is used to solve the Euler equations for a body in high-speed motion. Carbuncle errors has to be removed before we obtain physically adequate solution. Two-dimensional application is reported here.

  • Smart phone systems such as Android and iPhone are spreading into the next generation's computing and the prediction that cell phone (especially smart phone) penetration rate will be higher than that of PC in the near future is predominant. In this paper, we designed and materialized an item pool system which has self directed learning function that enables learning with smart phone (the PC in the hand). Users can choose the way of studying and do the offered estimation depending on their levels with smart phone. It is materialized the studying environment which can be done immediately anytime and anywhere.

  • Doosan has been developing a 5MW class gas turbine engine, DGT-5. Campbell diagram has been used for prediction of possible occurrence of resonances of rotating machinery. The Campbell diagram consists of blade natural frequency and excitation frequency. In this paper, modal characteristics of compressor and turbine blades are investigated and Campbell diagram is obtained. We calculated compressor and turbine blade's natural frequency using ANSYS tool. The result has been verified through test.

  • This paper describes the influence of geometric parameters on the noise generation from a centrifugal compressor. From the analysis of noise measurements, it is observed that Blade Passing Frequency noise related to the rotating impeller is more important, and it is focused on the comparison of this discrete frequency noise according to the shape change. Navier-Stokes solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the impeller and the vaned diffuser, and time-dependent pressure data are calculated and Fourier-transformed to perform the near-field noise prediction. The effects of various geometry design variables such as the gap between the impeller and the diffuser, impeller shape variations on the near-field noise distribution are investigated.

  • Ultrasonic guided wave techniques have been widely used for long range nondestructive detection in tube-like structures. The present paper investigates the ultrasonic linear and nonlinear parameters for evaluating the thermal damage in aluminum pipe. Specimens were subjected to thermal loading. Flexible polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) comb transducers were used to generate and receive the ultrasonic waves. The second harmonic wave generation technique was used to check the material nonlinearity change after different heat loadings. The conventional linear ultrasonic approach based on attenuation was also used to evaluate the thermal damages in specimens. The results show that the proposed experimental setup is viable to assess the thermal damage in an aluminum pipe. The ultrasonic nonlinear parameter is a promising candidate for the prediction of micro-damages in a tube-like structure.
