  • The invention of fusion wilding technology has brought on a revolutionary change in manufacturing industry which enables the construction of large scale high temperature plants in chemical, petrochemical and power generation industries. However, among the failure cases of high temperature components, premature failures of weldments have taken a large percentage that indicates the detrimental effect of welding on structural integrity. The accurate prediction of the high temperature behaviour of welded components is thus becoming increasingly important in order to realise an optimised design and maintenance of a plant life. In the present paper, recent research activities on high temperature behaviour of welded structures are briefly summarised. A local deformation measuring technique is proposed to determine the creep properties of weldment constituents. A damage mechanics approach is introduced to study the life reduction and ductility reduction due to the presence of a weld in high temperature structures. Finally, the high temperature creep crack growth in weldments is discussed.

  • Wind velocity is one of the primary variables for describing atmospheric state from GMS-5. And its accurate depiction is essential for operational weather forecasting and for initialization of NWP(Numerical Weather Prediction) models. The aim of this research is to incorporate imagery from other available spectral channels and examine the error characteristics of winds derived from these images. Multi spectral imagery from GMS-5 was used for this purpose and applied to Korean region with together BoM(Bureau of Meteorology). The derivation of wind velocity estimates from low and high resolution visible, split window infrared, and water vapor images, resulted in improvements in the amount and quality of wind data available for forecasting.

  • In case of thin-wall two-color injection molding, flashing often occurs when molten polymer flows into small gap at the parting line in mold with high pressure or under the unbalanced clamping force condition. In this study, flashing was examined in the production of thin-wall notebook case with large area when the rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM) technology was applied to the two-color injection molding. The effects of the RHCM technology on the part properties and weld-lines were compared with conventional injection molding. The flashing caused by the clamping device of the two-color injection molding machine was examined and compared by experiments and CAE analyses.

  • Aerodynamic noise generated by automobile cooling fan is investigated. Automobile cooling fans radiate both discrete frequency noise as well as broadband noise. In the present work, the former is considered through free-wake panel method coupled with acoustic analogy fully considering the retarded time variation on the blade surface, while the latter is taken into account by three well-established broadband noise components. Experiments were performed to supplement necessary inputs as well as to provide the final comparison with the predicted noise spectrum. The predicted noise levels at blade passing frequencies agree well with the experimental data for the first few harmonics. Although the predicted broadband noise levels at higher frequencies fall below the experimental data due to the fundamental shortcomings of the utilized formulations, the analysis offers a detailed physical understanding of the fan noise generation processes.

  • Recently the number of internet users has very fast increased, and the number of intrusions has also increased very much. Hence, Security production developed to prevent systems and network from being hacked and intruded. However, hacking and virus getting on automation, intelligence, decentralization, large-scale and concealment. Therefore, Network security service necessary to deal with such threat. In this paper, we investigate about new network security services of trace-back, recovery, network vulnerability analysis, attack prediction and consideration for these services.

  • Performance of next generation susceptor is affected by temperature uniformity in order to produce reliably large-sized flat panel display. In this paper, we propose a learning estimation model of susceptor to predict and appropriately assess the temperature uniformity. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Support Vector Machines (SVMs) are compared for the suitability of the learning estimation model. It is proved that SVMs provides more suitable verification of uniformity modeling than ANNs during each stage of temperature variations. Practical procedure for uniformity estimation of susceptor temperature was developed using the SVMs prediction algorithm.

  • Recently, a study on the mirror-like surface grinding of brittle materials is active and as branch of these study, new dressing method for superabrasive wheel, electrolytic inprocess dressing(Elid) was developed. Using Elid, the mirror-like surface of brittle material can be generated without polishing or lapping process. In the future, Elid grinding will take important place in industry. But so far the analysis on Elid grinding was not quantitative but qualitative. In this study, The purpose is the quantitative analysis on Elid grinding by computer simulation, For computer simulation, the mean and the variance of the abrasive distribution were measured by tracing of the grinding wheel with stylus in transverse direction in the case of respective dressing current condition. This measurement result in a density distribution of abrasive by mathematical formulation using statistical method. The prediction of the surface roughness in Elid grinding was based on this density distribution.

  • It is conducted to analyze vibration loads on KSR-III(KSR: Korea Sounding Rocket) and its major segments during their ground transportation and various handling process. These loads may be different from the real flight environment. Inadequate assessment of these loads can cause not only local damages on the rocket system but also the critical problem like flight mission failure. Therefore, transportation and handling loads must be considered during design and attenuated to ensure that the rocket structural damage does not occur. This work is concerned with the generation of criteria and prediction of transportation and handling loads for KSR-III. The results show that the shipping container is well designed to satisfy the design requirements. The maximum vibration level recorded during whole transportation and handling for KSR-III is less than 2g, the criteria of KSR-III movement condition.

  • Using hydrometric data from an upland river in North Wales, a relationship between rate of river flow and water stored within the catchment area (catchment storage) is assumed to exist, and is evaluated from an analysis of winter recession curves. This storage/river flow relationship, when combined with water balance equations, produces a set of equations which may be used for "routing" input of rainfall through a storage with defined outflow characteristics, providing a straightforward method of flood prediction and analysis from rainfall data. Recorded and predicted flood hydrographs are compared, and the effectiveness and limitations of the method are considered. The development of a complete mathematical model, embodying the storage/river flow relationship, and suitable for generation of continuous run-off records from rainfall and evaporation data, is also considered.

  • This study represents the methodology for feasibility analysis of small hydro power SHP plant. Cumulative density function of Weibull distribution and Thiessen method were adopted to decide flow duration curve at SHP candidate site. The perfomance prediction model and construction cost estimation model for tunnel-type SHP plant were developed. Eight tunnel -type SHP candidate sites existing on Han-river were selected and surveyed for actual site reconnaissance. The performance characteristics and economical feasibility for these sites were analyzed by using developed models. As a result, it was found that the optimum design flowrate with the lowest unit generation cost for tunel-type SHP candidate site were the flowrate concerming with between 20% and 30% of time ratio on the flow duration curve. Additionally, primary design specifications such as design flowrate, effective head, capacity, annual averageload factor, annual electricity production were estimated and discussed for eight surveyed SHP candidate sites.
