The effect of sustain discharge gap variation in AC PDP with high Xe content

  • We investigated the effect of sustain electrode gap variation with high Xe content in an ac Plasma Display Panel through two-dimensional numerical simulation to understand the inherent high luminous efficiency mechanism. For the low Xe content, the optimal sustain electrode gap turned out to be about 200 ${\mu}m$, but with higher Xe content, the VUV generation efficiency increased as the electrode gap increases beyond 200 ${\mu}m$. We found that it is due to higher electron heating efficiency in the cathode sheath under the condition of long electrode gap and high Xe content.

  • The most important question is how to use which kind of switch in pulsed power generation. There are many kinds of commercial closing switches, which have advantages and disadvantages. The most popular closing switch is the spark gap, but it has a disadvantage in life time, because of erosion of electrodes by arc heating. The Rotary Arc Gap (RAG) switch, especially Walkie-Edgar type RAG switch, was proposed to solve such problems in spark gap. It has a simple and special structure for arc moving caused from self-induced electromagnetic force, because moving arc makes less erosion on the electrodes. In this study we have made an Walkie-Edgar type RAG switch, tested the switching with capacitive energy storage system, and measured rotating arc speed in different peak current.

  • A high density optical data storage device has been required for many years. In the field of the optical data storage, a near-field recording (NFR) technology is considered as a next generation one for achieving the high data density. Due to an evanescent wave effect occurred under 100nm distance which is the excessively small distance between the SIL and the disc, the most significant and difficult problem in this technology is to maintain a gap between a solid immersion lens (SIL) and a disc. Also, maintaining the gap under at least 50nm is required in the NFR gap servo system to use the evanescent wave effect efficiently. There are some institutes that have shown the novel gap servo control. In general, they use a mode switching servo method which consists of approach, hand-over and gap control mode. However there is a critical problem such as an overshoot at the tuning point from the approach mode to the hand-over mode, which may cause a collision between the SIL and the disc. In this paper, we show our NFR system and an improved gap servo system using an exponential function as the approach mode which can reduce the overshoot.

  • One of emerging technologies under development in the advanced countries is considered as RDF(Refuse Derived Fuel) power generation, which could meet both the requirement of an alternative energy resource utilization and $CO_2$ reduction. This paper deals with the effect to the thermal effiency and CO2 reduction of RDF firing power generation. The statistical data of domestic MSW generation in last year in small and medium cities for evaluating the merits of the RDF power generation were used. The analysis for RDF power generation compared to the existing incinerator w/o(or w/) power generation shows around 20.6%(10.0%) up in the total thermal efficiency and 57.0%(31.4%) up in the $CO_2$ reduction respectively.

  • When the GA is applied to optimization problems, it is important to maintain the diversity in designing generation alternation model. Generally, when the diversity is not fully maintained, it is difficult to find good solution, and it is easy to stagnate the early convergenece.   • We investigate the effect of rise time of a pulse bias voltage on atmospheric plasma generation. With the faster rise time of the pulse bias, the glow discharge appears to be more uniformly generated along the electrodes. I-V measurement confirms that higher loading power can be obtained using the faster rise time. A new understanding for atmospheric plasma generation at a micro-gap electrode is suggested.

  • In the current PDP technology, one of the most important issues in AC PDP is improvement of luminance and luminous efficacy. To improve luminance and luminous efficacy, new cell structure of PDP containing long discharge path is necessary. However, it causes an increment of firing voltage. In order to decrease firing voltage of AC PDP having long discharge gap, the protrusion electrode is proposed. To drop the firing voltage, the protrusion electrode is inserted into the forward area of the main discharge gap. This paper presents measurements of detailed optical and electrical characteristics of AC PDP with protrusion electrodes. The experimental results show that the proposed structure with gap 80um has lower firing voltage to 27V than that of the conventional long gap structure. Moreover, the ICCD(Intensified Charge Coupled Device) images of the proposed structure show quick discharge generation by 0.07usec and longer continuation by 0.05usec than that of the conventional long gap structure. Therefore, the proposed protrusion electrodes have higher luminance by 12.5% than that of the conventional structure, as having no decrement of Luminous efficacy.

주사바늘 전극형 오존발생기 특성 연구 (Observation and Characteristics of Ozonizer using Injection Needle Electrode)

  • Ozone is a powerful disinfectant and oxidizing agent, and it is used in a wide range of applications, such as waste water treatment, food processing, etc.. There is also a great potential of using ozone in new emerging medical applications, such as ozone dentistry and ozone oxygen therapy. For these purposes, simple, small, compact and efficient sources of ozone are needed. In this study, in order to increase the current-voltage range of the discharge and to avoid the overheating of the gas in the ozonizer we suggested ozonizer of injection needle and plate electrode type(INP Type) with the gas through the needle. A ozonizer of INP type have been investigated by focusing on ozone concentration and yield according to flow rates and Gap of two electrodes. The results of studies of ozone production for DC corona discharge in oxygen at atmospheric pressure about the ozonizer of INP type. The ozone concentration and the generation yield increased as the gap of two electrodes and gas flow were decreased. Also, when the gap of two electrodes and gas flow with no change, the ozone concentration and generation yield each have variation of direct proportion and inverse proportion with discharge voltage.

세라믹(Ba-Ti-Si) 방전관의 오존발생특성 (A Study on Ozone Generation Characteristic Using Ba-Ti-Si Ceramic Tube)

  • 본 논문은 Ba-Ti-Si형 고유전체 세라믹촉매방전관의 오존발생특성에 관해 연구이다. 기본적인 실험조건은 방전관의 외부직경 52 mm, 방전관 길이 350 mm, 전원 주파수 900 Hz, 냉각수 온도 $25^{\circ}C$, 유량 5, 10, 20 L/min, 방전관 내부 압력 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 atm 그리고 방전관과 전극 사이는 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 mm이다. 그리고 실험결과의 특성들은 오실로스코프상에 나타난 리사쥬 도형의 값을 환산한 소비전력으로 유량 20 L/min, 방전간격 0.6 mm, 압력 1.6 atm 그리고 반응기 내의 무성방전에 사용된 소비전력 150 W에서 최대 오존발생효율 175 g/kWh를 얻을 수 있었다. 그리고 최대 오존발생효율 영역은 1.6 atm 이하의 압력에서는 유량 20 L/min 이하에서 측정되었다. 또한 최대 오존발생효율의 영역은 1.6 atm 이상의 압력에서는 유량 20 L/min 이상인 경우에 오존발생 효율이 높아졌다.

  • 본 논문은 최적 탐색 알고리즘중의 하나인 실수 표현 진화 알고리즘에 자가 적용 세대차 조절을 이용하여 보다 빠른 연산으로 우수해에 접근하기 위한 새로운 방식을 소개한다. 알고리즘의 성능에 영향을 끼치는 진화 속도를 기존 진화 방식과 유전연산자의 수정을 통해 조절하여 탐색 성능을 개선 한다. 조기 수렴의 방지 및 탐색성능의 향상을 위하여 선택과 대치를 포함한 진화방식을 개선하고, 유전 연산자에 의하여 생성된 자손의 대치확률에 따라서 자손의 생성범위를 자가 적응적으로 조절하여, 보다 적은 계산량으로 전역 최적화를 찾고자 한다. 제안된 방법을 벤치마크 테스트 문제에 적용하여 G3 알고리즘, CMA-ES 그리고 DE 등과 성능을 비교하였다.
