  • This paper covers an estimation and analysis of generating cost of 350MWe nuclear power plant using a pressurized water reactor on the assumption that such a nuclear power plant would be constructed in Korea in or around 1970. For the evaluation of this generating cost, an extensive study has been conducted based on the current information on operating and costing parameters of light water reactors, particularly those of pressurized water reactors. Based on this study, a total generating cost of 7.29 Mills/Kwh was evaluated by operating the plant at 80% plant factor. For this calculation, a steady state method was introduced. It is considered, therefore, that a total generating cost in the beginning of plant operation would be a little higher than 7.29 Mills/Kwh, which has been calculated in the state of equilibrium.

  • Generally, average invest cost is widely used for expansion planning of generation in power system. But, other cost which is followed by adding generating capacity in electric system is increased in accordance with increasing plant reasons. In this study, we represent the invest cost with quadratic function and analyze its effect on the expansion planning. It is hoped that this method is used in expansion planning of generating system.

  • Existing web-based cost databases have proved invaluable for construction cost estimating. These databases have been utilized to compute approximate cost estimates using assembly rates, unit rates, and etc. These web-based databases can be used independently with traditional cost estimation methods (manual methods) or used to support BIM-based cost estimating platforms. However, these databases are rigid, costly, and require a lot of manual inputs to reflect recent trends in prices or prices relative to a construction project's location. To address this gap, this study integrated deep learning techniques with web-based price analysis to develop a database that incorporates a project's location cost estimating standards and current cost trends in generating a cost estimate. The proposed method was tested in a case study project in Lagos, Nigeria. A cost estimate was successfully generated. Comparison of the experimental results with results using current industry standards showed that the proposed method achieved a 98.16% accuracy. The results showed that the proposed method was successful in generating approximate cost estimates irrespective of project's location.

  • This paper proposes a simple linear function approximation method to solve an economic load dispatch problem with complex non-smooth generating cost function. This algorithm approximates a non-smooth power cost function to a linear approximate function and subsequently shuts down a generator with the highest operating cost and reduces the power of generator with more generating cost in order to balance the generating power and demands. When applied to the most prevalent benchmark economic load dispatch cases, the proposed algorithm is found to dramatically reduce the power cost than does heuristic algorithm. Moreover, it has successfully obtained results similar to those obtained through a quadratic approximate function method.

  • This paper addresses the bidding strategies of generating firms in a competitive market where the firms are provided with payment for generating reactive power. Reactive support for voltage control is an integral and critical part of power system operations. Since reactive support is unbundled in a competitive market under open access transmission, it is treated as one of ancillary services. The operation costs and opportunity costs for reactive support are compensated by payment to the firms, hence their bidding strategies will be affected. The opportunity costs are evaluated from the foregone profits of a generator in making sales in real power market by providing reactive support instead of real power. Game theory approach is used to analysis the transaction strategies of real power by the bimatrix method in this paper. Through computing the Nash equilibrium in a sample system, an incentive of a generator for improving the reactive generating capacity is found to be effective and the variations of the profits are analyzed as the demand power factor changes.

  • A power system configuration has been increasingly advanced with a number of generating units. In particular, renewable energy resources are widely introduced due to the environmental issues. When applying the renewable energy sources with the ESS (Energy Storage System), the ESS is the role of a potential generating resource in the power system while mitigating the output volatility of renewable energy resources. Thus, for applications of the ESS, the surrounding environment of it should be considered, which means that capacity and energy of the ESS can be affected. Moreover, operation strategy of the ESS should be proposed according to the installation purpose as well as the surrounding environment. In the paper, operation strategy of the ESS is proposed considering load demand and the output of renewable energy resources on a hourly basis. Then, the cost of electrical energy is minimized based on the economic model that consists of capital cost, operation cost, fuel cost, and grid cost for a year. It is sure that peak-shaving effects can be achieved while satisfying the minimum cost of electrical energy.

  • As the utilization of microservice architectural style in diverse applications are increasing, the microservice deployment cost became a concern for many companies. We propose an approach to reduce the deployment cost by generating an algorithm which minimizes the cost of basic operation of a physical machine and the cost of resources assigned to a physical machine. This algorithm will produce optimal resource allocation and deployment location based on genetic algorithm process.

  • In photovoltaic generation, PV module is used to generate the electricity, and this system has been in limelight as nonpolluting alternative energy source. But, as energy density is low and PV module cost is high, there is a disadvantage that initial investment cost go up. In this study, we studied the method of allowing a tracker, adequate to photovoltaic generation, for Increasing the generating. We determined the proper error angle in order to decrease the repeating number of tracking without a reduction of the generating by using our developed simulator. And, we presented the photovoltaic approach tracking control and achieved its experiment. Through the result of experiment, it is expected that the fault rate and the consumption of electric power in a tracker get reduced and its cost become cut down.

  • This paper develops methodology in order to consider CHP(Combined Heat and Power) capacity in the Basic Plan of Long Term Electricity Supply & Demand. We develop generating cost of CHP considering electric and heat. Also we develop mixed load duration curve which includes the electric load and heat load and then apply CHP capacity to SCM(Screening Curve Method) considering CHP feature. Accordingly, it decide the optimal CHP capacity in the Basic Plan of Long Term Electricity Supply & Demand. Also, We perform the sensitivity analysis according to cost variation.

  • This paper presents an improved parallel particle swarm optimization approach (IPPSO) based decomposed network for economic power dispatch with discontinuous fuel cost functions. The range of partial power demand corresponding to the partial output powers near the global optimal solution is determined by a flexible decomposed network strategy and then the final optimal solution is obtained by parallel Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed approach tested on 6 generating units with smooth cost function, and to 26-bus (6 generating units) with consideration of prohibited zone effect, the simulation results compared with recent global optimization methods (Bee-OPF, GA, MTS, SA, PSO). From the different case studies, it is observed that the proposed approach provides qualitative solution with less computational time compared to various methods available in the literature survey.
