Experimental study on fire performance of axially-restrained NSC and HSC columns

  • This paper describes fire performance of eight axially restrained reinforced concrete (RC) columns under a combination of two different load ratios and two different axial restraint ratios. The eight RC columns were all concentrically loaded and subjected to ISO834 standard fire on all sides. Axial restraints were imposed at the top of the columns to simulate the restraining effect of the rest of the whole frame. The axial restraint was effective when the column was expanding as well as contracting. As the results of the experiments have shown, the stiffness of the axial restraint and load level play an important role in the fire behaviors of both HSC and NSC columns. It is found that (a) the maximum deformations during expanding phase were influenced mostly by load ratio and hardly by axial restraint ratio, (b) For a given load ratio, axial restraint ratio had a great impact on the development of axial deformation during contraction phase beyond the initial equilibrium state, (c) increasing the axial restraint increased the value of restraint force generated in both the NSC and HSC columns, and (d) the development of column axial force during the contracting and cooling phase followed nearly parallel trend for columns under the same load ratio.

Design analysis and simulation of an external helical gear

  • This study optimized the parameters of the helical gear based on the original external meshing helical gear pump, combined with the analysis of the stability and flow of the basic parameters of the equipment; herringbone gears were used to eliminate the axial force generated by the helical gears. An optimized helical gear rotor was built with NX. The error between the simulation and calculation results of pump displacement was 3.95% and the simulation results were valid. Analysis of the outlet pressure and lift changes (maximum change rates of 0.38% and 0.25%), pressure analysis of the XY center plane at different times in the same cycle (no pressure surge or drop), and analysis of the axial force of the primary and driven rotors (axis The axial force is close to 0) were performed. The results showed that the flow pulsation of the external gear pump was slight, the operation was smooth, vibration and friction were reduced, the wear of bearings and other components could be diminished, and the service life of the equipment was extended. The simulation results showed that the external gear pump met the design requirements.

국산 M8 스테인리스 나사의 체결특성 (Tightening Characteristics of domestic M8 stainless screws)

  • 진공 시스템 구축을 위해 플랜지를 체결하기 위해서는 다수의 나사가 필수적으로 사용된다. 나사의 접촉면에 발생하는 마찰력을 아는 것으로 가정하던 나사에 가해주는 토크와 발생하는 축력의 관계를 이론적으로 구하는 것은 쉽지만 실제로는 마찰이 미지의 나사 표면상태에 크게 의존하는 것이 문제다. 시판하는 나사들의 표면상태와 제원이 일정하지 않고 나사에 의해 발생하는 축력을 제대로 예상하지 못하면 최적의 축력으로 플랜지를 균일하게 조이기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 플랜지 체결시 가장 말이 사용하는 나사로서 국내에서 시판되고 있는 M8 스테인리스강제 육각 표준나사 중 몇 개를 임의로 선택하고 여러 가지 체결조건에서 토크와 축력과의 관계를 구하여 우리가 예상하는 값과 얼마나 차이가 나며 나사들 사이에 어느 정도나 편차가 있는지 조사했다.

로크 너트의 풀림 방지 성능 향상을 위한 스프링의 최적 형상 설계 (Optimum Shape Design of the Spring to Improve the Loose-proof Performance of the Lock Nut)

  • The combination of a bolt and nut is the element most widely used for connecting machines and structures. When a load is repetitively applied in the direction right angle to the bolt axis after the bolt and nut is fastened, the nut gradually becomes loose. To solve this problem, in this study, a new type of the loose-proof nut, called a lock nut, is developed. The lock nut is equipped with a spring, and the spring increases the axial force of the bolt. Then, the connection force between the bolt and nut is also augmented. Three dimensional finite element models for the bolt and spring are generated, and the change of the axial force of the bolt while the bolt is being inserted into the spring is analyzed using MSC/Marc, a commercial finite element program. Finally, the optimum shape of the spring is found according to the response surface analysis methodology. The optimization result is verified by comparing the variation of the axial force of the bolt when the bolt is inserted to the initial and optimized spring.

이중 동전기 휠에 의해 반송되는 도전성 환봉의 공간 안정성 (A Spatial Stability of the Conductive Rod Conveyed by Double Electrodynamic Wheels)

  • Putting a conductive rod between rotating axial electrodynamic wheels composed of repetitive permanent magnets, three-axial magnetic forces generate on the conductive rod. It is possible to levitate and transfer the rod on space with the forces. However, the forces vary in direction and magnitude for a position of the rod between the electrodynamic wheels. Thus, the position influences the stability of the rod also. To guarantee the stability of a levitated object, the force acting on the object should have negative stiffness like a spring. So, we analyze the stable operating range of the conductive rod levitated by the axial wheels with the commercial finite element tool in this paper. Specially, as the pole number and the radial width of permanent magnets has much influence on the generated force and thereby the stable region, their sensitivities are analyzed also. The analytic result is compared with experimental result.

Detent Force Reduction of a Tubular Linear Generator Using an Axial Stepped Permanent Magnet Structure

  • Various methods have been discussed to reduce detent force in a tubular permanent magnet type linear single phase AC generator. In particular, the proposed methods depend on variations of the permanent magnet construction. These methods include two approaches in the form of sloped magnets, and conical magnets in addition to the conventional method of optimizing the magnet length. The undesired detent force ripples were calculated by a two dimensional Finite Element Method (FEM). Moreover, the generated electromotive force in the stator coils was calculated for each configuration of the permanent magnet. The experimental results agreed well with those obtained from the FEM-based simulations. Sufficient reduction in the detent force was achieved over the range of 40% while the root mean square of the output voltage was maintained. It was found that sloping the permanent magnet decreased the detent force and at the same time increased the generated rms voltage of the AC generator. The performance of the designed linear AC generator was evaluated in terms of its efficiency, total weight, losses, and power to weight ratio.

공기 포일 스러스트 베어링의 하중지지능력에 관한 연구 (A study of the Load Capacity of Air Foil Thrust Bearings)

  • Air foil thrust bearings are the critical components available on high-efficiency turbomachinery which need an ability to endure the large axial force. Air foil bearings are self-acting hydrodynamic bearings that use ambient air as their lubricant. Since the air is squeezed by the edge of compliance-surface of bearing, hydrodynamic force is generated. In this study, we measured the air film thickness and obtained the minimum film thickness experimentally. To increase the maximum load capacity, compliance of sub-structure was controlled. From numerical analyses, it is seen that, if the air film thickness is distributed more uniformly by variable compliance, the thrust bearings can take more axial load.

  • Most of design parameters of Railway Structures are determined by the serviceability requirements, rather than the structural safety requirements. The serviceability requirements come from Ensuring of Running Safety and Ride Comfort of Train, Reduction of Track Maintenance Work Track-Bridge Interaction should be considered in the design of railway structures. In this study, a numerical method which precisely evaluate an axial force in rail and a rail expansion and contraction when turnout exist in succession on a CWR on a ballasted or on a ballastless track of bridge is developed. From the parameter studies using the developed method, additional stress of stock rail almost 25% is generated due to stock and lead rail interaction, even embankment not bridge. In case of ballasted track, additional stress of stock rail on bridge is very greater than on embankment, and therefore require detailed review in bridge design with turnout. Stresses of turnout rails on bridge are very sensitive according to the installed positions. In case of ballastless track, Stresses of turnout rails are similar as those of normal track

다이아몬드 코어드릴의 중공비가 절삭력에 미치는 영향 (A Study of the Effectiveness of Hollow Ratio on Cutting Force of Diamond Core Drill)

  • In this study, the variation of the cutting forces generated in the machining process were evaluated experimentally. A material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic and a tool of the dynamometer were used for the measurements of the cutting forces. With the constant rates of the feed and the tool rotation, the cutting forces were measured along three axial directions(X, Y, Z axis) for the various values of the hollow ratio. It was found that the cutting force be increasing linearly along the direction of Z axis, but along X, Y axis be not varied. Also from the viewpoint of the precesses of the hole drilling, the cutting force was found to be increasing sharply at the beginning process, but from the eighth process be increasing smoothly. As conclusions, the cutting force generated by machining for the material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic are influenced more significantly by the feed rate and the hollow ratio than by the tool rotational speed.

  • Axial fans are widely used in heavy machines due to their ability to produce high flow rate for cooling of engines. At the same time, the noise generated by these fans causes one of the most serious problems. This work is concerned with the low noise technique of discrete frequency noise. The prediction model, which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's harmonics, has been developed by Farrasat. This theory is founded upon the acoustic radiation of unsteady forces acting on blade. To calculate the unsteady resultant force over the fan blade. Time-Marching Free-Wake Method are used. The ideas of low noise technique are obtained from Blade-Momentum Methods. In this paper, the discussion is confined to the performance and discrete noise of axial fan in heavy equipments.
