Development of a 50kW Micro Gas Turbine Engine (50kW 마이크로 가스터빈 개발)

  • Performance analysis and test of a 50kW micro gas turbine is carried out. The present study was initiated in 1996 by KIMM researchers to develope a 50kW class turbogenerator gas turbine engine for hybrid vehicle propulsion system. but with its low emission and compactness, it seemed that it can also be applied as a source of distributed power generation. In this study, general description of the KIMM's efforts to acquire performance test skills of the self-made 50kW micro gas turbine engine. At present, non-load performance test up to 615000 rpm was accomplished and is expected to make through 80,000 rpm by the end of year. Several revisions in design and manufacture were made during the course of experiments. The resulting outputs is thought to be valuable for the further refinement of the system for eventual commercialization of the product.

  • n general, the function of intake structure, whether it be a open channel, a fully wetted tunnel, a sump or a tank, is to supply an evenly distributed flow to a pump station. An even distribution of flow, characterized by strong local flow, can result in formation of surface or submerged vortices, and with certain low values of submergence, may introduce air into pump, causing a reduction of capacity and efficiency, an increase in vibration and additional noise. Uneven flow distribution can also increase or decrease the power consumption with a change in total developed head. To avoid these sump problems pump station designers are considered intake structure dimensions, such as approaching upstream, baffle size, sump width, width of pump cell and so on. From this background, flow characteristics of intake within sump are investigated numerically to obtain the optimal sump design data. The sump model is designed in accordance with HI code.

Effect of Land Consolidation on Agricultural Mechanization (경지정리 사업이 농업기계화에 미치는 영향)

  • In 1990's, two types of land consolidation has been widely carried out to enforce competativeness of rice production in Korea. One is so called large-scale land consolidation for resizing paddy field and farm road, the other is general land consolidation for changing both size and shape of field, water channel and farm road. This study was conducted to evaluate how much effect on fm mechanization the land consolidation had. To evaluate the influence of the land consolidation, theoretical analysis and surveys were accomplished. Land consolidation was analyzed to increase field efficiency by 180 to 670% depending on the type of land consolidation and machine selection. Also, land consolidation brought increment of real working time ratio by reducing traveling time on farm road. Trends of large scale mechanization and increment of custom work were observed to be accelerated by land consolidation. It also gave effect on the pattern of machine troubles. Farmers were conscious of the influence of land consolidation on machine utilization, however, in plains level of satisfaction was shown to be low.

  • Gear trains are used in many machinery for variable speed ratios. Typical shapes of gear trains are two categories: simple gear trains and planetary gear trains. Generally the methods of the design typical shapes are two way. One of the methods is trailblazing design and the other is selective design in available types. This paper presents the mechanism types when input rotating velocity and output rotating velocity are maintained for useful planetary gear reducers of twelve types. Also, this paper gives the applicable example about rotating velocity of the gear axis, carrier velocity and the organized gear specifications

  • A scroll compressor is on the increase in the use for the cooling and ambition machinery because of the advantages about high efficiency, low vibration and low noise. The design of thrust bearing for scroll compressor has depended on the experience. The lubrication considering the squeeze flow was applied for high side shell and low side shell of scroll thrust bearing. This work was based on governing fluid lubrication equation at the general coordinate. It shows the behavior for an orbiting scroll with direct numerical analysis using FDM. This study obtained the theoretical design value by finding load capacity and tilting angle of an orbiting scroll for thrust bearing in a scroll compressor. Especially this work performed the analysis about the design parameter. The program was written using Visual C++ to enhance user to change the design parameter easily. In particular the result value and the pressure profile were displayed as windows in every step for user to understand without difficulty.

Input Shaping for Servo Control of Machine Tools (공작기계의 서보제어와 입력성형기법)

  • Servo control loops are a core part in the control architecture of machine tools. Servo control loops manage acceleration, velocity and position of all the axes in a machine tool based on commands. The performance of servo control loops sets the basis for quality of production paris and cycle time reduction. First, this paper presents a general control architecture of machine tools and several control schemes in literature, which can be applicable to machine tools control; including Zero Phase Error Tracking Control (ZPETC) and Cross Coupling Control (CCC). After that, modem control strategies to mitigate the problem of high speed machining are reviewed. In high speed machining, high accelerations excite the machine structure up to high frequencies, thereby exciting the structure's modes of vibration. These structural vibrations need to be damped if accurate positioning or trajectory following is required. Input shaping is an attractive option in dealing with structural vibrations. The advantages and drawbacks of using input shaping technique for machine tools are discussed in detail.

  • This paper presents the development of a two-dimensional model for investigating the fluid flow in water jet and calculating the velocity and pressure distributions. The mathematical formulation as a standard k-$\epsilon$ model was solved employing a general thermofluid-mechanics computer program, PHOENICS code, which is based on the Semi-Implicit Method Pressure Linked Equations(SIMPLE) algorithm. The developed code was applied to water jet design to determine the nozzle size, and investigated the effect of the change of nozzle location. Calculated results showed that the flow pattern is not changed as the change of nozzle location.

Effects of Tread, Wheelbase and Axle Load Distribution on Tractor Vibrations (윤거, 축거, 차축 하중 분포가 트랙터 진동에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects on the tractor vibrations of tread, wheelbase and axle load distribution were analyzed by using mathematical models of tractor and random road surface. A 4 degrees of freedom tractor model was developed to predict the bounce, pitch and roll motions of tractor. The front axle which is constrained to roll with respect to tractor body was also included in the model. A random road profile was generated and used as an excitation input to the tractor. Output vibrations of the model were predicted and analyzed by a computer simulation method. In general, longer tread tends to reduce rolling and longer wheelbase does bouncing and pitching motions. Tractor vibrations were minimum when the ratio of front to rear axle loads was in the range of 30:70-35:65. Sensitivity analysis showed that rolling and pitching motions most sensitively varied with changes in tread and wheelbase while bouncing motion did with the location of mass center.

A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents (특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

Lubrication Performance Analysis of A Low-Speed Dry Gas Seal having An Inner Circular Groove (내부 원형 그루브를 갖는 저속 드라이 가스 시일의 윤활 성능해석)

  • In this study a general Galerkin FE lubrication analysis method was utilized to analyze the complex lubrication performance of a spiral groove seal having an additional inner circular groove, which was designed for a chemical process mixer operating at a low speed of the maximum 500 rpm. Equilibrium seal clearance analyses under varying outer pressure revealed that the seal maintains a certain levitation seal clearance under the outer pressure of more than about 1.5 bar, regardless of a rotating speed. Also, under the normal outer pressure of 11 bar, the axial stiffness of the seal was predicted to have a high value of more than 7.0e+07 N/m, regardless of a rotating speed and thereby, the seal is expected to maintain a stable thickness of lubrication film under a certain external excitation acting.
