  • The grands ensembles, or large-scale high-rise housing projects, are widely regarded as notorious products of postwar French government policy in the area of housing and urban planning. There was a general consensus that the grands ensembles had been a 'failure'. They were perceived as the source of all the ills of the contemporary city, as responsible for a social breakdown stemming from lack of infrastructure, geographical isolation, and monotonous environments. French government embarked on a broad renovation effort in light of the deteriorated condition of grands ensembles in the 1980s, which has been approved as generally 'successful'. This study focusing on French cases allowed me to demonstrate that following qualifications are critically important for successful housing projects: urban contextual continuity, socially mixed community, authentic planning for achieving sense of place, relationship between collective and individual expression, et cetera.

  • This research describes a development of laser distance sensor with precise resolution even in the case that the object surface has some curvature. There are typical two methods in measuring the distance by using laser light source, so called time of flight and optic-triangular methods. Both methods have an advantage and a disadvantage each other. In general, the time of flight method produces wide range of the measurement, but low accuracy. The other method is vice versa. In this research, the optic-triangular methods with one-dimensional CCD cell are proposed to obtain the precise distance measure from the sensor the surface of the curved object ...

  • Recently, the eletrodeless lamp is introduced as a new light source of a high efficacy and long life. Although eletrodeless lamp's size is large, most of them is applied to general luminaire for HID lamps. It causes to decrease eletrodeless lamp's efficacy. Therefore, refractor luminaires can be an option to maintain efficacy, so that reflector luminaires are developed for such lamps. The purpose of this study is to develope a optical numerical model of planar prism luminaire that is able to obtain various luminous intensity distributions.

  • Nasotracheal intubation is an essential procedure during general anesthesia for dental treatment. Fiberoptic intubation is best accomplished by those who perform it as part of their daily practice. But nasal approach of fiberoptic intubation has some complications such as epistaxis and laryngeal injury. Especially, epistaxis is common and it make fiberoptic intubation because of limited view. When the epistaxis obstruct the field of vision we have to withdraw the fiberoptic bronchoscope and consider the other method for securing the airway. We succeeded in securing the airway of patient who had epistaxis during the fiberoptic nasotracheal intubation without withdrawing the fiberoptic bronchoscope. We used blind intubation guided by light source placed the tip of fiberoptic bronchscope applied to lightwand intubation.

  • In general, auto parts production assembly line is assembled and produced by automatic mounting by an automated robot. In such a production site, quality problems such as misalignment of parts (doors, trunks, roofs, etc.) to be assembled with the vehicle body or collision between assembly robots and components are often caused. In order to solve such a problem, the quality of parts is manually inspected by using mechanical jig devices outside the automated production line. Automotive inspection technology is the most commonly used field of vision, which includes surface inspection such as mounting hole spacing and defect detection, body panel dents and bends. It is used for guiding, providing location information to the robot controller to adjust the robot's path to improve process productivity and manufacturing flexibility. The most difficult weighing and measuring technology is to calibrate the surface analysis and position and characteristics between parts by storing images of the part to be measured that enters the camera's field of view mounted on the side or top of the part. The problem of the machine vision device applied to the automobile production line is that the lighting conditions inside the factory are severely changed due to various weather changes such as morning-evening, rainy days and sunny days through the exterior window of the assembly production plant. In addition, since the material of the vehicle body parts is a steel sheet, the reflection of light is very severe, which causes a problem in that the quality of the captured image is greatly changed even with a small light change. In this study, the distance between the car body and the door part and the door are acquired by the measuring device combining the laser slit light source and the LED pattern light source. The result is transferred to the joint robot for assembling parts at the optimum position between parts, and the assembly is done at the optimal position by changing the angle and step.

  • In order to accurately perform multispectral imaging using a multiplexed illumination, intensity of illumination in a scene must be uniform. For image acquisition that requires accurate color information, even if not multispectral imaging, the illumination information must be accurate, and a flat light source or illumination calibration is performed for accurate illumination characteristics. In this paper, we propose a method of color correction to uniformly illuminate an image with non-uniform illumination intensity. The proposed method uses multispectral imaging instead of illumination calibration for color correction. First of all, we perform multispectral imaging with two images obtained from non-uniformity illumination to acquire spectral reflectance. The obtained reflection spectrum is relit as the illumination characteristic of the image obtained from general planar light such as fluorescent light or sunlight. By comparing the image obtained by relighting with the uniformly illuminated image, the non-uniformity of the illumination is confirmed, and the color correction is performed as the image obtained from the uniform image. It is expected that the experimental results will confirm whether the non-uniformity of the illumination is uniformly corrected and reduce the restriction of illumination in obtaining the color information of the image.

  • Electrical energy is a key source of energy for modern civilization, and changes in electricity generation and consumption are closely related to industry and life in general. In this study, we identified the correlation between electricity generation and nighttime light values in South Korea and used it to predict monthly electricity generation trends in North Korea. The results of the study showed a low Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.34 between nighttime light and electricity generation in Seoul, but a high Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.79 between weighting for Seoul case nighttime light values and electricity generation using monthly average temperature. Using nighttime light values weighting for Seoul case by the average monthly temperature in Pyongyang to predict the monthly power generation trend in North Korea, we found that the month-on-month power generation increase in December 2022 was about 60% higher than the month-on-month power generation increase in December 2020 and 2021. The results of this study are expected to help predict monthly electricity generation trends in regions where monthly electricity generation data does not exist, making it difficult to identify timely industry trends.
