A Efficient Image Separation Scheme Using ICA with New Fast EM algorithm

  • In this paper, a Efficient method for the mixed image separation is presented using independent component analysis and the new fast expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm. In general, the independent component analysis (ICA) is one of the widely used statistical signal processing scheme in various applications. However, it has been known that ICA does not establish good performance in source separation by itself. So, Innovation process which is one of the methods that were employed in image separation using ICA, which produces improved the mixed image separation. Unfortunately, the innovation process needs long processing time compared with ICA or EM. Thus, in order to overcome this limitation, we proposed new method which combined ICA with the New fast EM algorithm instead of using the innovation process. Proposed method improves the performance and reduces the total processing time for the Image separation. We compared our proposed method with ICA combined with innovation process. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying it to image separation problems.

A Study on Development of Wind-Rose software for Planning Runway Direction at an Airport (활주로 방향설정을 위한 풍배도 프로그램의 개발 연구)

  • An Analysis of wind is essential for planning runway direction. As a general rule, the principal traffic runway at an airport should be oriented as closely as practicable in the direction of the prevailing wind. Aircraft are able to maneuver on a runway as long as the wind component at right angles to the direction of landing and taking-off, the cross wind component, is not excessive. ICAO recommends that runway be oriented so that aircraft may be landed at least 95% of the time with allowable cross wind components not exceeding specified limits based upon the airport reference field length. Based on the recommendation, the direction of the runway or runways at an airport can be determined through graphical vector analysis on wind rose. This study is to develop the wind-rose software for planning the optimum runway direction at an airport with the raw wind data based on reliable wind distribution statistics that extend over as long as a period as possible, preferably of not less than 5 years.

  • In the paper architecture of load flow under graphic interface we mentioned that the define of graphic interface and the way of system modeling. In the view point of engineering, domain define is the step of process which is seek out the general solution. This is a base of program's structure. When making a relationship inner component, relevance and restriction are affected by data type and etc. In this process logical data is realized as a symbol. And system configuration decide that main function and extension by the analysis user's demand and requirements. Specially engineering analysis software has accuracy also through the numerical method. To represent this wee need more powerful graphical component. This helps user's accessibility. We can combine 10, numerical library and graphical component as a system element by domain definition. In this paper we will materialize as a step of implementation and decide a direction of programming. In conclusion we will see the analysis software's necessary function to make a better.

  • Powertrain simulation is important far the analysis of a vehicle performance. Automotive powertrain has been considered as the unified system and should be remodeled, whenever a powertrain system is changed. In this study, a new method is proposed far the synthetic modeling for the automotive powertrain. Components are separated from the powertrain system and constructed the matrix through dynamic relationships. The dynamic equation of the total powertrain system can be driven from the combination of each component. In order to combine each component, the superposition method is modified for the powertrain composition.

Relationship between Quality of Working Life and Organizational Effectiveness of Employees at the General Hospital (종합병원 근무자의 근로생활의 질과 조직유효성과의 관련성)

  • Objectives: Quality of Working Life(QWL) is a set of employee's physical, mental conditions which are perceived at their work. Most employees and managers are concerned about the quality of working life as a strategy for improving organizational effectiveness. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between QWL and organizational effectiveness of employees at the general hospital. Methods : Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires at the general hospital in Kyunggi-Do. Survey was conducted to 675 workers. QWL was measured by using 5 items from the scale developed by Walton(1973). Organizational effectiveness was measured by measuring organizational commitment, intention of job-shift, and job satisfaction. Results: The recognitions to each component of QWL were significantly different by socio-demographic characteristics such as sex, age, education levels and working duration. Also, QWL were significantly different by types of organizational culture. Multiple regression analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis were applied to find the relationship of QWL and organizational effectiveness. As a result, job-pride, compensation, working condition, human relationship and development showed significant relationship with organizational effectiveness. Conclusions: These results show that QWL is significantly related to organizational effectiveness. So we expect that this result will be used as basic informations for management and motivation of employees at the general hospital.

  • For face recognition system, a face detector which can find exact face region from complex image is needed. Many face detection algorithms have been developed under the assumption that background of the source image is quite simple . this means that face region occupy more than a quarter of the area of the source image or the background is one-colored. Color-based face detection is fast but can't be applicable to the images of which the background color is similar to face color. And the algorithm using neural network needs so many non-face data for training and doesn't guarantee general performance. In this paper, A multi-scale, multi-face detection algorithm using PCA is suggested. This algorithm can find most multi-scaled faces contained in static images with small number of training data in reasonable time.

  • The analysis of EEG data is an important task in the domain of Brain Computer Interface (BCI). In general, this task is extremely difficult because EEG data is very noisy and contains many artifacts and consists of mixtures of several brain waves. The P300 component of the evoked potential is a relatively evident signal which has a large positive wave that occurs around 300 msec after a task-relevant stimulus. Thus automatic detection of P300 is useful in BCI. To this end, in this paper we employ a method of reference-based independent component analysis (ICA) which overcomes the ordering ambiguity in the conventional ICA. We show here. that ICA incorporating with prior knowledge is useful in the task of automatic P300 detection.

A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents (특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

  • Principal component analysis(PCA) is a multivariate technique falling under the general title of factor analysis. The purpose of PCA is to Identify the dependence structure behind a multivariate stochastic observation In order to obtain a compact description of it. In engineering field PCA is utilized mainly (or data compression and restoration. In this paper we propose a new robust Hebbian algorithm for robust PCA. This algorithm is based on a hyperbolic tangent function due to Hampel ef al.(1989) which is known to be robust in Statistics. We do two experiments to investigate the performance of the new robust Hebbian learning algorithm for robust PCA.

  • In general, ZnO lighting arrester are known to exhibit an increases in resistive current with time, the rate of increase being exacerbated with increasing applied voltage. In addition, since the resistive leakage current caused by deterioration of ZnO lighting arrester mainly caused an increase of the third harmonic component, thereby it is possible the arrester degradation diagnosis by measuring the third harmonic component in the total leakage current. So, in this paper, we presents a leakage current measuring and analysis system of 18[kV] ZnO lighting arrester.
