Changes in electric resistance was measured to carry out the kinetic analysis of milk gellation upon addition of rennet. Using pasteurized milk and commercial rennin, kinetic properties were investigated during milk gellation in terms of initial hydrolysis and coagulation steps. Specially designed reactor with two platinum electrodes was used throughout the experiments. As a function of either milk concentrations or reaction temperatures, gel time exhibited directly proportional relations: on the contrary, gel time was inversely pro-portional to enzyme concentration. Activation energies for enzymatic degradation and cogulation were 16.3, 4.6 and 34, 8.6 Kcal/mol, repectively. This simple analytical method proved to be very effective to characterize the mechanism of milk gellation. Moreover, unlike other methods, this method reguired simple apparatus and short time of analysis.
Porous silica ceramics were prepared using DCCA(Drying Control Chemical Additives) Such as uncharged polymer(Polyethylene glycol) and protein (Lipase) under H2O/Low-grade TEOS=10 C2H5OH/Low-grade TEOS=1 HC1/Low=grade TEOS=0.01 After Plain which doesn't added DCCA and samples of 11 sorts which varied molecular weight of PEG(Mw=600, 1000, 2000) quantity of Lipase and concentration of wat-er were synthesized gellation time and thermal analysis were investigated. After heat-treated at 600, cry-stal structures analyses of SiO2 polymer and characteristics of pores were investigated. Gellation time was retarded about 2-6 times as compared with plain resulting in addition of DCCA and crystal structures ex-hibited amorphous state. Moreover as increase of water a short gellation time was obtained. The samples added PEG showed increase of specific surface areas up to 20-40% and had micropores while those of Lipase were decreased about 90% and showed broad pore size distribution.
It is proposed the polyacrylamide gel, instead of agar, could be used for the solid cultures of microorganisms including Streptomyces strains. Polymerization and gellation of 5% acrylamide solution were done by autoclaving for 5 min at 121.deg.C and no hindered by the addition of nutrient-rich media. In particular, pH buffer solution suitable for corresponding microorganisms must be used in the preparation of culture media. Comparing with agar, it was discussed that polycrylamide gel had many advantages such as gellation within the wide range of strong acid Carbon and Nitrogen sources, requirement tests of growth factors and minerals, sterization at high temperature, diffusion assays of products depending on the pore size of gel, and stability and standarization of microbial cultures.

The composite composed of glass fabric and BMI resin was fabricated using resin transfer molding(RTM) process. it will be used as a supporting plate of transformer coil for high speed train. To develop a RTM process, permeability of preform was measured and resin properties like a viscosity and gellation time were checked. A resin pre-heating system and a mold system were also designed and developed. Using a vacuum-assisted RTM process, the composite supporting plate was successfully fabricated.
Experimental studies were carried out to develop oil-absorbent using curdlan solution or gel. Curdlan sponge was prepared by freeze drying. Surface of curdlan sponge was observed with Scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Curdlan sponge absorbed more than 9 times oil and curdlan was recovered by gellation. Curdlan solution gelled at higher temperature than 50$^{\circ}C$ and dissolved at pH 11.0 and viscosity of curdlan solution increased at 40∼50$^{\circ}C$.
It was investigated in this study that a preparation method, activation energy, surface area, pore volume, pore size distribution and DTA analysis of the dry gel in process of producing monolithic porous gel in Li2O-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2 system by the sol-gel technique using metal alkoxides. Activation energy for gellation according to the variation of water concentration and the kind of catalysts ranged from 10 to 20kcal/mole. Monolithic dry gels were prepared after drying at 9$0^{\circ}C$ when the amount of water for gellation was 4~8 times more than the stoichiometric amount, that was necessary for the full hydrolysis of the mixed metal alkoxide. The specific surface area, the pore volume, the average pore radius of the dried gel at 18$0^{\circ}C$ according to the various kinds of catalyst were about 348~734$m^2$/g, 0.35~0.70ml/g and 10~35$\AA$, respectively. It showed that the dry gels were porous body. As a result ofthe analysis of DTA, it was confirmed that the exothermaic peaks at 715$^{\circ}C$ and 77$0^{\circ}C$ was clue to the crystallization of dried gel.
LAL (Limulus amebocyte lysate) test to detect and quantity endotoxin is based on gellation reaction between endotoxin and LAL from a blood extract of Limulus polyphemus. The test is labor intensive requiring dedicated personnel, takes relatively long reaction time (approximately 1 hr), requires relatively large volume of samples and reagents, and its end-point detection method is rather subjective. To solve these problems, we attempted to develop a miniaturized LOC (lab-on-a-chip) prototype using PDMS and glass. Using the 62 mm (length) ${\times}$ 18 mm (width) prototype in which 2 mm (width) ${\times}$ 44.34 mm (length) ${\times}$ 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ (depth) microfluidic channel was provided, we compared the various detection methods of gellation, turbidometric, and chromogenic assays to find the chromogenic method to be the most suitable for small volume assay. In this assay, kinetic point method was more accurate than end point method. We also found the PDMS chip thickness should be minimized to around 2 mm to allow sufficient light transmittance, which necessitated a glass slide bonding for chip rigidity. Through the miniaturization, the test time was reduced from 1 hr to less than 10 minutes, and the sample volume could be reduced from 100 ${\mu}\ell$ to 4.4 ${\mu}\ell$. In sum, this study revealed that the mini LOC could be an alternative for a semi-automated and reliable method for LAL test.
The titania membrane thickness coated on the porous alumina support by the sol-gel method was analyzed using the slipcasting model. The thickness of calcined membrane layers increased linearly from 1.3 to 3.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with the square root of the dipping time (4~40 min). Growth rates of the thickness of wet gels and calcined layers were well described quantitatively by the slipcasting model. Through the regression of experimental data using model equations, the permeability and the pressure drop across wet gels, and the thickness and their growth rate constants of wet gels and calcined layers could be determined. It was also known that the gellation concentration of the TiO2 sol used in this work and the porosity of wet gel layes were 25 mol/ι and 0.53, respectively.
It was examined that the rheological behaviors of fly ash 70wt%-clay 30wt% slip in which nonplastic fly ash was a major component. We have systematically investigated the effects of deflocculant(Tetrasodium pyrophosphate ; Na4P2O7 nH2O Sodium silicate; Na2SiO3) and coagulant(CaSO4) on the rheological behavior of ash-clay slip. Ash-clay slip have been characterized on the basis of the time dependent rheology which was done out by the gel-curve test. Dispersion mechanism of ash-clay slip is the steric stabilization by the Na2SiO3 coating of cenospheres surface. Coagulated slip seems to have the new network structure and shows the gellation behaviors which makes it possible to direct coagulated casting(DCC).
The microstructures of aluminas, included of dissolved CaO as $\alpha$-alumina seeded pseudo-boehmite hydrosol was gelled in plaster mold and doped of MgO as dipping of calcines(120$0^{\circ}C$-2h) into Mg-nitrate solution, were compared to the one of which additives are excluded during the gellation. It was formed the boundary layer of 300~350${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ distance from surface to the inside, containing of approximately 500ppm CaO by dissolved Ca from plaster mold. As the MgO addition to the boundary layer with dissolved CaO, the microstructure of the layer was uniformed and inhibited the grian growth, compared to one of that additives be excluded specimen and of MgO doped-inside region. This result was considered as abnormal grain growth and effect of flat boundary formation be appeared by effects of dissolved CaO, were decreased by MgO co-doping.
