Surface Relaxation of Aluminum

  • We performed a total energy calculation of clean alumunum surfaces of three low indices based on a density functional theory with a local density approximation, using the Ceperly-Alder exhange correlation parametrized by Perdew and Zunger. Pseudopotentials were generated for Al of which the plane wave cut-off was 15Ry. We used Gaussian broadening of a Fermi level to accelerate the convergence of our calculation with the Gaussian energy smearing parameter of 0.005Ry. First, we determine the lattice constant of the aluminum of an face-centered-cubic structure to be 3.96 which is comparable to the experimental data of 4.05 . The cohesive energy of 4.20eV/atom and the bulk modulus of 0.775$\times$1012dyne/cm2 are also comparable to the experimental values of 3.39eV/atom and 0.772$\times$1012dyne/cm2, respectively. Then we investigated the surface relaxation of (100), (110) and (111) surfaces using a 9-layer slab separated by 6-layer thick vacuum. The results are consistent with the existing experimental results.

  • 본 논문에서는 가우스 잡음과 임펄스 잡음이 혼합된 잡음 환경하에. 비선택적 페이닝 채널에서 PSK 변조한 DS/SSMA 시스템의 성능을 분석하기 위하여, 특정함수 방법을 이용하여 시스템의 평균 효율에 대한 식을 유도한 후 계산된 결과를 통해 시스템의 성능을 분석하였다.

  • We introduce a novel Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) algorithm designed to improve the performance of thermal-inertial odometry. Thermal infrared image, though advantageous for feature extraction in low-light conditions, typically suffers from a high noise level and significant information loss during the 8-bit conversion. Our algorithm overcomes these limitations by approximating a 14-bit raw pixel histogram into a Gaussian mixture model. The conversion method effectively emphasizes image regions where texture for visual tracking is abundant while reduces unnecessary background information. We incorporate the robust learning-based feature extraction and matching methods, SuperPoint and SuperGlue, and zero velocity detection module to further reduce the uncertainty of visual odometry. Tested across various datasets, the proposed algorithm shows improved performance compared to other state-of-the-art VIO algorithms, paving the way for robust thermal-inertial odometry.

  • 기울기를 따라가는 방식(gradient descent method)에 바탕을 둔 오류 역전파(EBP : Error Back Propagation) 방법이 가장 널리 사용되는 신경회로망의 학습 방법에서 문제가 되는 지역 최소값(local minima), 느린 학습 시간, 신경망 구조(structure), 그리고 초기의 연결 강도(interconnection weight) 등을 기존의 다층 신경 회로망에 지역적인 학습 능력을 가진 가우시안 포텔샵 네트워크(GPFN : Gaussian Potential Function Networks)를 병렬적으로 부가하여 해결함으로써 지역화된 오류 학습 패턴들이 나타내는 문제에 대하여 학습 성능을 향상시킬 수 잇는 새로운 학습 방법을 제시한다. 함수 근사화 문제에서 기존의 EBP 학습 방법과의 비교 실험으로 제안된 학습 방법이 보다 개선된 일반화 능력과 빠른 학습 속도를 가짐을 보여 그 효율성을 입증한다.

  • Wireless communication systems, in particular, must operate in a crowded electro-magnetic environmnet where in-band undesired signals are treated as noise by the receiver. These interfering signals are often random but not Gaussian Due to nongaussian noise, the distribution of the observables cannot be specified by a finite set of parameters; instead r-dimensioal sample space (pure noise samples) is equiprobably partitioned into a finite number of disjointed regions using quantiles and a vector quantizer based on training samples. If we assume that the detected symbols are correct, then we can observe the pure noise samples during the training and transmitting mode. The algorithm proposed is based on a piecewise approximation to a regression function based on quantities and conditional partition moments which are estimated by a RMSA (Robbins-Monro Stochastic Approximation) algorithm. In this paper, we develop a diversity combiner with modified detector, called Non-Linear Detector, and the receiver has a differential phase detector in each diversity branch and at the combiner each detector output is proportional to the second power of the envelope of branches. Monte-Carlo simulations were used as means of generating the system performance.

Intersymbol interference due to sampling-time jitter and its approximations in a raised cosing filtered system

  • This paper studies the effect of intersymbol interference due to sampling-time jitter on the worst-case bit error probability in a digital modultation over an additive white Gaussian noise channel, with the squared-root raised-cosine filters in the transmitter and the receiver. It derives approximation formulas using the Taylor series approximations. the principal results of this paper is the relationship between the worst-casse bit error probability, the degree of jitter, the roll factor of the raised cosine filter, and other quantities. Numerical results show, as expected, that the intersymbol interference decreases as the roll-off factor increases and the jitter decreases. They also show that the approximation formulas are accurate for smally intersymbol interference, i.e., for large roll-noise ratio $E_{b/}$ $N_{0}$.leq.7 dB and begin to lose accuracy for larger signal-to-noise ratio.o.o.

Coordinated Direct and Relayed Transmission based on NOMA and Backscattering

  • We propose a spectral-efficient coordinated direct and relayed transmission (CDRT) scheme for a relay-assisted downlink system with two users. The proposed scheme is based on backscatter communication (BC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. With the proposed BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, both users can receive one packet within one time slot. In contrast, in existing NOMA-CDRT schemes, the far user is only able to receive one packet in two time slots due to the half-duplex operation of the relay. We investigate the outage of the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, and derive the outage probability expressions in closed-form based on Gamma distribution approximation and Gaussian approximation. Numerical results show that the analytical results are accurate and the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme outperforms the conventional NOMA-CDRT significantly.

Skin Region Detection Using a Mean Shift Algorithm Based on the Histogram Approximation

  • In conventional, skin detection methods using for skin color definitions is based on prior knowledge. By experimentation, the threshold value for dividing the background from the skin region is determined subjectively. A drawback of such techniques is that their performance is dependent on a threshold value which is estimated from repeated experiments. To overcome this, the present paper introduces a skin region detection method. This method uses a histogram approximation based on the mean shift algorithm. This proposed method applies the mean shift procedure to a histogram of a skin map of the input image. It is generated by comparing with the standard skin colors in the $C_bC_r$ color space. It divides the background from the skin region by selecting the maximum value according to the brightness level. As the histogram has the form of a discontinuous function. It is accumulated according to the brightness values of the pixels. It is then, approximated by a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) using the Bezier curve technique. Thus, the proposed method detects the skin region using the mean shift procedure to determine a maximum value. Rather than using a manually selected threshold value, as in existing techniques this becomes the dividing point. Experiments confirm that the new procedure effectively detects the skin region.

Adaptive Formulation of the Transition Matrix of Markovian Mobile Communication Channels

  • This study models mobile communication channels as a discrete finite Markovian process, and Markovian jump linear system having parallel Kalman filter type is applied. What is newly proposed in this paper is an equation for obtaining the transition matrix according to sampling time by using a weighted Gaussian sum approximation and its simple calculation process. Experiments show that the proposed method has superior performance and reuires computation compared to the existing MJLS using the ransition matrix given by a statistical method or from priori information.

  • In this paper, we propose a new blind image watermarking method in wavelet domain. It is necessary to find out watermark insertion location in blind watermark. We use horizontal and vertical difference of LL components to select watermark insertion location, because increment or decrement of successive components is rarely changed in LL band. A pseudo-random sequence is used as a watermark. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to various kinds of attacks such as JPEG lossy compression, averaging, median filtering, resizing, histogram equalization, and additive Gaussian noise.
