Aerodynamic Performance Analysis of a Shrouded Rotor Using an Unstructured Mesh Flow Solver

  • The aerodynamic performance of a shrouded tail rotor in hover has been studied by using a compressible inviscid flow solver on unstructured meshes. The numerical method is based on a cell­centered finite-volume discretization and an implicit Gauss-Seidel time integration. The results show that the performance of an isolated rotor without shroud compares well with experiment. In the case of a shrouded rotor, correction of the collective pitch angle is made such that the overall performance matches with experiment to account for the uncertainties of the experimental model configuration. Details of the flow field compare well with the experiment confirming the validity of the present method.

  • An unstructured implicit Euler solver is parallelized on a Cray T3E. Spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell-centered finite volume formulation using an upwind flux differencing. Time is advanced by the Gauss-Seidel implicit scheme. Domain decomposition is accomplished by using the k-way n-partitioning method developed by Karypis. In order to analyze the parallel performance of the solver, flows over a 2-D NACA 0012 airfoil and 3-D F-5 wing were investigated.

  • In this paper, an efficient nonlinear echo cancellation method is proposed, whereby the fast block exact Gauss-Seidel pseudo affine projection (FBEGS-PAP) is further utilized for adaptive Volterra filtering. In particular, the proposed nonlinear echo cancellation approach requires lower computational complexity as in the conventional linear adaptive echo cancellation methods based on NLMS and GS-PAP, and still provides nonlinear echo cancellation performance similar to the GS-PAP method. Finally, echo cancellation performance of the proposed approach is demonstrated by providing some simulation results.

  • An efficient dynamic analysis method is developed f3r building structures subjected to ground home loadings. The soil medium is modeled using the finite elements and infinite elements. Then, the dynamic stiffness of the soil medium is calculated at the interfacial nodes between the soil and the building foundation. The equivalent subway loading at the interfacial nodes are obtained from the wave propagation analysis of the subway loading through the soil medium. The dynamic response of the building Is computed using the mode superposition method equipped with gauss-seidel iteration technique. The analysis is carried out by the frequency domain and the time domain methods.

Topology optimization of variable thickness Reissner-Mindlin plate using multiple in-plane bi-directional functionally graded materials

  • This paper introduces a novel approach to multi-material topology optimization (MTO) targeting in-plane bi-directional functionally graded (IBFG) non-uniform thickness Reissner-Mindlin plates, employing an alternative active phase approach. The mathematical formulation integrates a first shear deformation theory (FSDT) to address compliance minimization as the objective function. Through an alternating active-phase algorithm in conjunction with the block Gauss-Seidel method, the study transforms a multi-phase topology optimization challenge with multi-volume fraction constraints into multiple binary phase sub-problems, each with a single volume fraction constraint. The investigation focuses on IBFG materials that incorporate adequate local bulk and shear moduli to enhance the precision of material interactions. Furthermore, the well-established mixed interpolation of tensorial components 4-node elements (MITC4) is harnessed to tackle shear-locking issues inherent in thin plate models. The study meticulously presents detailed mathematical formulations for IBFG plates in the MTO framework, underscored by numerous numerical examples demonstrating the method's efficiency and reliability.

토양 오염원의 이동에 관한 연구 (감쇠항이 있는 3차원 이송-확산 방정식의 수치모형 개발) (A Study on the Transport of Soil Contaminant (A Development of FDM Model for 3-D Advection-Diffusion Equation with Decay Term))

  • 오염물질의 이동 현상을 모의하기 위하여, 감쇠항이 있는 3차원 이송-확산 방정식의 수치모형이 개발되었다. 개발된 모형은 유한차분 모형으로서 시간단계의 가중치 ${\alpha}$를 포함하는 음해법(implicit finite difference method)과, 반복법인 Gauss-Seidel SOR(successive over relaxation)이 사용되었다. 모형은 보다 단순화된 가정 하에서 존재하는 두 가지의 해석적인 해와 비교되었다. 그 결과 Peclet number가 5~20 이하에서는 수치 분산의 영향이 크지 않았고 작은 오차범위 내에서 해석적인 해와 동일하였다. 또한 가중치 ${\alpha}$의 변화에 대한 모형의 거동은 Crank-Nicolson 모형(${\alpha}$=0.5)이 fully-implicit 모형(${\alpha}$=1)보다 해석적인 해에 접근함을 보여주었다. 모형의 검증과 실효성 제고를 위하여, mass balance를 검토하였다. 즉, 이송, 확산 및 감쇠항 각각에 대한 질량 이동을 산출하였으며, 그 결과 질량 이동의 계산 오차는 약 3% 이내였다. 본 모형은 감쇠 과정이 수반되는 3차원 이송-확산의 농도분포와 질량이동을 산출할 수 있으며 다양한 경계조건을 설정함으로서 현장조건을 반영할 수 있다. 그러나본 모형은 고정격자를 기반으로하는 유한차분 모형이므로 Peclet number가 비교적 작게 나타날 수 있는 토양 및 지하수계의 오염물질 이동 등의 문제에서 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

승용차 도어에 대한 다분야통합최적설계 (Multidisciplinary Optimization of Automotive Door)

  • The automotive door has a large finite element model in analysis and many design requirements such as stiffness, natural frequency, side intrusion, etc. Thus, various related governing equations should be solved for systematic analysis and design. Because each governing equation has different characteristics, it is almost impossible to solve them simultaneously. Instead, they are separately handled and the analysis results are incorporated into the design separately. Currently, the design is usually conducted by trials and errors with engineering intuition in design practice. In this research, MDO methods are proposed to solve the problems that share design variables in disciplines. The idea is from the Gauss-Seidel type method for multi-discipline analysis. The developed methods show stable convergence and the weight of the door is reduced by fifteen percent.

  • In the present study, a solution algorithm for the computation of unsteady flows on unstructured meshes is presented. Dual time stepping is incorporated to achieve the second-order temporal accuracy while reducing errors associated with linearization and factorization. This allows any time step size, which is suitable for considering physical phenomena of interest. The Gauss-Seidel scheme is used to solve the linear system of equations. A special treatment based on spring analogy is made to handle meshes with high aspect-ratio cells. The present method was validated by comparing the results with experimental data and those obtained from rigid motion.

구매종속성이 존재하는 상황에서 주문충족율을 계산하는 근사법에 관한 연구 (Approximate Approach to Calculating the Order Fill Rate under Purchase Dependence)

  • This paper proposes a new approximate approach to calculate the order fill rate and the probability of filling an entire customer order immediately from the shelf in a business environment under purchase dependence characterized by customer purchase patterns observed in such areas as marketing, manufacturing systems, and distribution systems. The new approximate approach divides customer orders into item orders and calculates fill rates of all order types to approximate the order fill rate. We develop a greed iterative search algorithm (GISA) based on the Gauss-Seidel method to avoid dimensionality and prevent the solution divergence for larger instances. Through the computational analysis that compares the GISA with the simulation, we demonstrate that the GISA is a dependable algorithm for deriving the stationary joint distribution of on-hand inventories in the type-K pure system. We also present some managerial insights.
