A coupled algorithm is proposed which first considers the creation of porous structure of the material and then the simulations of response of mechanical components with porous structure to a variable load history. The simulations are carried out by the Prandtl operator approach in the finite element method (FEM) which enables structural simulations of mechanical components subjected to variable thermomechanical loads. Temperature-dependent material properties and multilinear kinematic hardening of the material can be taken into account by this approach. Several simulations are then performed for a tensile-compressive specimen made of a generic porous structure and mechanical properties of Aluminium alloy AlSi9Cu3. Variable mechanical load history has been applied to the specimens under constant temperature conditions. Comparison of the simulation results shows a considerable elastoplastic stress-strain response in the vicinity of pores whilst the surface of the gauge-length of the specimen remains in the elastic region of the material. Moreover, the distribution of the pore sizes seems more influential to the stress-strain field during the loading than their radial position in the gauge-length.
A health monitoring system becomes a useful tool to obtain information on long term behavior of the important railway structures such as very long span and special type bridges. The health monitoring system not only gives the direct measurement data of the railway bridges but also provides the basic data on the maintenance of the structures. Therefore, periodic calibrations of the health monitoring system will be a necessary step toward precise and accurate assessment of the railway bridges. In this study, the calibration and gauge factor readjustment process made for the health monitoring system installed in the railroad bridges is reviewed and some findings are explained in detail: specifically, the calibrators made for this purpose are illustrated and the regression processes of the calibration on long-term displacement using water level sensor, longitudinal displacement using LVDT sensor, instantaneous displacement using LVDT sensors and accelerometer are described in full length. Based on the regression results, it was found that the gauge factors need to be readjusted according to the regression equation but, since the deviation or shift is not serious so far, long-term observation on each sensor is also recommended. Future work will be concentrated on the long-term analysis of each sensor and on the database creation so that the assessment of the structures is possible.
In this study, We made visual inspection system using Vision Board. It is consist of an illuminator (a fluorescent lamp), image input device (CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) camera), image processing system(Vision Board(FARAMVB-02)), image output device (video monitor, printer), and a measuring instrument(TELMN1000). Length measurement by visual inspection system make use of 100mm guage block(instead of calculating distance between a camera and a object). It measured horizontal and vertical length factor from 400mm to 650mm by increasing 50mm. In this place, measured horizontal and vertical length factor made use of length measure- ment of a injection. A measuring instrument used to ompare a measured length of a injection visual inspection system with it. In conclusion, length measurement of a injection compared a measuring instrument with visual inspecion system using length factor of 100mm gauge block. We find that maximum error of length is 0.55mm when it compar with the measuring value of two devices(FARAMVB-02, TELMN1000). Program of visual inspection system is made up Borland C++3.1.
The two dimensional size effect of specimen gauge section (length x width) was investigated on the compressive behavior of a T300/924 [45/-45/0/90]3s, carbon fiber-epoxy laminate. A modified ICSTM compression test fixture was used together with an anti-buckling device to test 3mm thick specimens with a 30$\times$30, 50$\times$50, 70$\times$70, and 90mm$\times$90mm gauge length by width section. In all cases failure was sudden and occurred mainly within the gauge length. Post failure examination suggests that $0^{\circ}$ fiber microbuckling is the critical damage mechanism that causes final failure. This is the matrix dominated failure mode and its triggering depends very much on initial fiber waviness. It is suggested that manufacturing process and quality may play a significant role in determining the compressive strength. When the anti-buckling device was used on specimens, it was showed that the compressive strength with the device was slightly greater than that without the device due to surface friction between the specimen and the device by pretoque in bolts of the device. In the analysis result on influence of the anti-buckling device using the finite element method, it was found that the compressive strength with the anti-buckling device by loaded bolts was about 7% higher than actual compressive strength. Additionally, compressive tests on specimen with an open hole were performed. The local stress concentration arising from the hole dominates the strength of the laminate rather than the stresses in the bulk of the material. It is observed that the remote failure stress decreases with increasing hole size and specimen width but is generally well above the value one might predict from the elastic stress concentration factor. This suggests that the material is not ideally brittle and some stress relief occurs around the hole. X-ray radiography reveals that damage in the form of fiber microbuckling and delamination initiates at the edge of the hole at approximately 80% of the failure load and extends stably under increasing load before becoming unstable at a critical length of 2-3mm (depends on specimen geometry). This damage growth and failure are analysed by a linear cohesive zone model. Using the independently measured laminate parameters of unnotched compressive strength and in-plane fracture toughness the model predicts successfully the notched strength as a function of hole size and width.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of the various physiological function caused by girdle wearing. The four experimental methods used in this study are as follows. For example, the Reentgen photographing, body measurement by Sliding Gauge, mensurement of the electrocardiogram, measurement of the pulse and the blood pressure. The results of the investigation were as follows; 1. In the change of the various organs by Roentgen photographing, the diaphragm rised a little than normal position. The heart and stomach inclined to right side and the shape of stomach and duodenum are longer than the length of normal shape. Especially the phlorus of stomach was pressured strongly. 2. In the experimental change by the Sliding gauge and body measurement, the waist, hip and theigh girth of wearing-girdle reduced than at the no-girdle. The protruson of abdomen and hip section of wearing-girdle and the phenomenon of Hip-Up showed. 3. The difference by measurement of the electrocardiogram wasn't showed. The pulse of the wearing-girdle was increased slightly than the no-girdle. 4. The blood pressure of the wearing-girdle decreased slightly than the no-girdle.
Three dimensional circular braided Glass/Aramid hybrid fabric/epoxy resin composite was fabricated. FBG sensor was embedded along the braid yam in order to monitor the internal dimensional changes of the 3-D braid composite. The amount of cure and thermal shrinkage of epoxy resin was also determined using FBG sensor system. FBG sensors with different grating length were embedded and their response were compared. The thermo-optic coefficient of FBG sensor was measured by several preliminary experiments. The internal strain that measured by FBG sensor and electric strain gauge was compared during compressive test. The released residual strain of the fabricated tubular composite was estimated using cutting method. The internal strain of the composite was estimated using FBG sensor system, and the result was compared with the value from electric strain gauge. It was found that FBG sensor system is a very useful technique to investigate inside region of complicated structure.
In this research 4 plate type ER-Valves which have same surface but different width and length are designed and an experimental apparatus is constructed. With this experimental apparatus, flow rate and pressure drop of ER fluid flowing in ER-Valve are measured by varying electric field strength of ER-valve, and relation between valve types and pressure drop is also experimented. ER fluid is made silicon oil mixed with 40wt% starch having hydrous particles. The pressure drop according to the strength of electric field by differential pressure gauge in the present ER-Valve was used. This test reviewed experiment for the special changes of ER fluids in the steady flow condition.
Bend test is one of the methods comparing the physical properties of the clasp wires. The type of bend test used in this investigation was the cantilever loading of a wrought wire. The purpose of this study was to compare the flexibility of a number of commonly used clasp wires, in according to gauge, alloy and heat treatment, under specific condition of load and deflection. Seven noble and one base metal wires were tested under three conditions as follows: (1) as received, (2) quenched (placed in an over at $700^{\circ}C$ for ten minutes and immediately quenched in water at room temperature.), (3) oven cooled (quencned as described, then placed in an oven at $450^{\circ}C$ for two minutes and uniformly slowly cooled to $250^{\circ}C$ in thirty minutes.) The basic test specimen consists of a sample 25 mm in length and 19, 18 gauge in diameter (17 gauge also in two alloys), and the wire was loaded in the form of straight cantilever beams. Force at 0.25 mm (0.01 inch) and 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) deflections for all samples were recorded. The results were as follows ; 1. Ticonium was least flexible and No. 2 was most flexible in according to gauge, alloy and heat treatment. 2. In most of precious wrought wire, the flexibility was increased, but there was no statistically significant differences between as-received and softened condition. 3. There was no statistically differences between as-received and hardened condition. 4. For each alloy, there were statistically significant differences in flexibility due to clasp diameter.
