  • This paper presents development of a pratical tool deflection compensation system in order to reduce the machining error by the tool deflection in the end-milling process. The system is a tool adapter which includes 2-axis force sensor for detecting tool deflection and 2-axis tool tilting device for adjusting tool position through computer interface in on-line process. In experiments, it is revealed that the force sensor applying parallel plate principle and strain gauge is proper to obtain dynamic process signal, and the tilting device using stepping motor and cam drive mechanism is suitable to have necessary action. By the system and control algorithm, it is possible to get precise machining surface profile without excessive machining error and overcut generated due to increased cutting force in more productive machining condition.

  • In this paper, we formulate the mathematical model for a single-stand rolling mill and design control systems for the thickness control at the exit of roll stand and for the tension control of the strip in the process. We propose a thickness controller based on the Internal Model Control structure which can be an effective application when the frequency components of the thickness deviation of the entry strip are known and, show how it can be appropriately combined with BISRA AGC method for a precise thickness control while maintaining the robustness against the modeling error of the mill modulus. It is illustrated by simulations that the proposed thickness control method gives better performance than existing methods and has the robustness against the modeling error of the mill modulus as well.

  • In this paper, we propose a CFWC (CCD and fuzzy PID based width control) scheme to obtain the desired delivery width margin of a vertical rolling mill in hot strip process. A WMS(width measurement system) is composed of two line scan cameras, an edge detection algorithm, a glitch filter, and so on. A dynamic model of the mill is derived from a gauge meter equation in order to design the fuzzy PID controller. The controller is a self-learning structure to select the PID gains from the error and error rate of the width margin. The effectiveness of the proposed CFWC is verified from simulation results under a width disturbance of the entry in the mill. Using a field test, we show that the performance of the width control is improved by the proposed control scheme.

BT50용 스핀들 공구 파지력 검사를 위한 힘센서 개발 (Development of Gripping Force Sensor for a Spindle Tool of BT50)

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a force sensor to measure the tool gripping force of the BT50 spindle. The force sensor for a BT50 must be installed inside the gripping force tester; hence, it must be of an appropriate size and have a rated capacity suitable for measuring the gripping force. So, the structure of the force sensor for BT50 was modeled, the size of the sensing part was determined by structural analysis, and the force sensor was manufactured by attaching a strain gauge. The characteristic test results of the manufactured force sensor, indicated that the nonlinearity error, hysteresis error, and reproducibility errors were each within 0.91%, Therefore it was determined that the manufactured force sensor can be used for checking the spindle tool gripping force.

변형률계를 이용한 강재보의 건전도 평가 시스템 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Structural Health Monitoring System for Steel Beams Using Strain Gauges)

  • 이 연구에서는 변형률계를 사용하여 변위를 추정하는 이론식을 제안 및 검증하고 하중 작용점과 크기를 추정하여 강재보의 건전도 평가 시스템을 개발하고자 하였다. 실험결과 160kN(항복하중의 56%)가력시 최대처짐 점에서 변형률계를 사용하여 얻는 처짐과 변위계의 측정처짐과의 오차율이 2%이내로 나타났으며 하중작용점 및 크기의 추정도 오차율1% 이내로 나타났다. 이를 통해 변형률계로 강재보의 변위 및 하중을 계측 할 수 있으며 나아가 변위계와 하중계의 생략으로 경제적인 센서설계를 할 수 있다. Lab VIEW로 구현된 건전도 평가 프로그램은 측정된 데이터가 일정 범위(강도 한계상태, 사용성 한계상태, 항복변형률)를 넘어설 때 단계별 경고를 발생하였고 변형률계 만으로 사용성한계상태와 강도한계상태를 동시에 모니터링 할 수 있었다.

직사각형 검사영역의 상관도 분석을 통한 수면위치 탐색 방법 (A Novel Water Surface Detection Method Based on Correlation Analysis for Rectangular Control Area)

  • 본 연구에서는 목자판과 수면이 포함되어 있는 시차를 가진 두 영상에 대해 직사각형 검사영역을 설정하고 그 상관계수를 분석하여 수면을 판단하는 새로운 수면인식 기법을 제안하였다. 상관계수의 수직적인 값들로부터 임계치, 첨두값, 기울기, 분산비 등 4가지 방법을 이용하여 수면의 위치를 판정하였다. 흔들림 등으로 인해 두 영상의 위치가 불일치하여 생기는 문제를 제거하기 위해 추가로 영상의 흔들림을 보정하는 알고리즘과 통계적 필터링 기법을 적용하였다. 저수시에 촬영한 28개 지점의 영상에 개발한 수면 인식 방법을 적용하였다. 이 방법으로 계산한 수면은 목측 수면과의 평균상대오차가 3.4~5.7 cm 정도로 나타났다. 수면의 요동이 있을 경우, 이 방법은 기존 방법을 보완하여 영상수위계의 수위 측정성능을 높이는데 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

신경회로망을 이용한 가공조건에 따른 원형가공 표면거칠리 평가 (Evaluation of Circle Machining Surface Roughness on the Process Conditions using Neural Network)

  • The purpose of this study was to present the method to choose the optimization machining condition for the wire electric machine. This was completed by examining the ever-changing quality of the material and by improving the function of the wire electric discharge machine. Precision metal mold products and the unmanned wire electric discharge machining system were used and then applied in industrial fields. This experiment uses the wire electric discharge machine with brass wire electrode of 0.25mm. To measure the precision of the machining surface, average values are obtained from 3 samples of measures of center-line average roughness by using a third dimension gauge and a stylus surface roughness gauge. In this experiment, we changed no-node voltage to 7 and 9, pulse-on-time to $6{\mu}s,\;8{\mu}s$ and $10{\mu}s$, pulse-off-time to $8{\mu}s,\;10{\mu}s$ and $13{\mu}s$, and experimented on wire tension at room temperature by 1000gf, 1200gf, and 1400gf, respectively.

Intra and Inter-Rater Measurement Reliability of Tibialis Anterior Muscle (TA) Thickness using the Ultrasonography Spring Gauge Technique

  • Purpose: The purpose of the current study was to determine the intra- and inter-rater reliability of muscle thickness measurement of the TA using ultrasonography (US) conducted at different inward pressures of approximately 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, and no pressure control. Methods: Twenty healthy subjects were recruited for this study. Two different examiners measured the thicknesses of the dominant TA of each subject randomly to assess the intra- and inter-rater reliability. The measurement values were analyzed using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) with a 95% confidence interval, standard error of measurement, minimal detectable change, and coefficient of variance. Results: All intra-rater reliability ICC values showed high reliability above 0.9. Inter-rater reliability ICC values showed high reliability above 0.9 with 0.5 and 1.0 kg of inward pressure. In contrast, Inter-rater reliability ICC values showed poor reliability (0.23) with no pressure control of inward pressure. Conclusion: The findings showed that maintaining consistent inward pressure is essential for reliable results when the muscle thickness of the TA is measured by different examiners in a clinical setting.

Artificial Intelligence-Based Descriptive, Predictive, and Prescriptive Coating Weight Control Model for Continuous Galvanizing Line

  • Zinc wiping is a phenomenon used to control zinc-coating thickness on steel substrate during hot dip galvanizing by equipment called air knife. Uniformity of zinc coating weight in length and width profile along with surface quality are most critical quality parameters of galvanized steel. Deviation from tolerance level of coating thickness causes issues like overcoating (excess consumption of costly zinc) or undercoating leading to rejections due to non-compliance of customer requirement. Main contributor of deviation from target coating weight is dynamic change in air knives equipment setup when thickness, width, and type of substrate changes. Additionally, cold coating measurement gauge measure coating weight after solidification but are installed down the line from air knife resulting in delayed feedback. This study presents a coating weight control model (Galvantage) predicting critical air knife parameters air pressure, knife distance from strip and line speed for coating control. A reverse engineering approach is adopted to design a predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive model recommending air knife setups that estimate air knife distance and expected coating weight in real time. Implementation of this model eliminates feedback lag experienced due to location of coating gauge and achieving setup without trial-error by operator.

  • A ship engine operator should compensate the crankshaft assembly of ship engine after inspecting crankshaft deflection error in the crank throw regularly to avoid engine vibration and abrasions. In the previous method, the operator enters the bed plate and measures crankshaft deflection using dial gauge on rotating crankshaft manually. However, this method can cause dangerous situation to the operator as well as uncomfortable in an inferior environment. In order to solve the problems, this paper studies the method which makes the operator measure the error outside of the bed plate. In this paper, it is suggested that BlueTooth wireless communication transfers the error data to the outer standing operator with digitalized crankshaft deflection inspection device developed in this paper. So, the wireless measurement system is developed and applied to a medium-speed marine engine through size-miniaturization. After applying test, the developed inspection device showed that it provides much safe and ease inspection method. Furthermore, in the result, the measuring accuracy is more improved.
