Synthesis of $\beta$-Sialon powder was attempted with carbothermal reduction of porous glass. The porous glass was prepared by heat and hydrothermal treatments of 9.32 Li2O.46.5B2O3.37.2SiO2.6.98Al2O3 glass. Carbon pyrolyzed from propane gas was deposited on the porous glass, thereafter activated carbon was added as reducing agents. The synthesized $\beta$-Sialon powder was pressureless sintered at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr in N2 atmosphere. The characterization of the $\beta$-Sialon powder was performed with XRD, BET, SEM and particle size analysis. The sinterability and mechanical properties of the sintered bodies were investigated in terms of bulk density, M.O.R., fracture toughness, morphology of microstructure and etc. The reduction effect of deposited carbon was better than that of activated carbon mechanically added. The formation of SiC was precominant over that of Si2ON2 and $\beta$-Sialon owing to low partial pressure of N2 inside the pore, wehreas on the surface of porous glass the formation of Si2ON2 and $\beta$-Sialon were predominant. Thereafter, SiC reduced unreacted glass to be $\beta$-Sialon. Single phase of $\beta$-Sialon(Z=1.92) was obtained from PGA porous glass having the largest pore radius by the simultaneous reduction and nitridation method at 145$0^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs. The bulk density, M.O.R., and KIC of the sitered body are 3.17g/cc, 434.4MPa and 4.1MPa.m1/2, respectively.

Limited sources of fossil fuels and also global climate changes caused by $CO_2$ emissions are currently discussed around the world. As a renewable, carbon neutral and widely available energy source, biogas is regarded as a promising alternative to fossil fuels. In this study, a plasma dump reformer was proposed to produce $H_2$-rich synthesis gas by a model biogas. The three-phase gliding arc plasma and dump combustor were combined. Screening studies were carried out with the parameter of a dump injector flow rate, water feeding flow rate, air ratio, biogas component ratio and input power. As the results, methane conversion rate, carbon dioxide conversion rate, hydrogen selectivity, carbon monoxide yield at the optimum conditions were achieved to 98%, 69%, 42%, 24.7%, respectively.
Oxygen ionic conductors of YSZ electrolyte in SOFC unit cell are applied to anode and cathode as well as electrolyte to have triple-phase-boundaries(TPB) of electrochemical reaction, and it is required to decrease the sintering temperature of anode-supported electrolyte by the nanoscale of YSZ powder. In this report, nanoscale YSZ powder was synthesized by the chemical co-precipitation method. The particle size, surface area and morphology of the powder were observed by SEM and BET. Thin film electrolyte of under 10㎛ was fabricated by tape casting using the synthesized YSZ powder, and ionic conductivity and gas permiability of electrolyte film were evaluated. Finally, the SOFC unit cell was fabricated using the anode-supported electrolyte prepared by a tape casting method and co-sintering. Electrochemical evauations of the SOFC unit cell, including measurements such as power density and impedance, were performed and analyzed.
Hemoglobin was purified from the outdated human red blood cells. Phospholipids were purified from egg yolk and stored in chloroform. The artificial red blood cells (hemosome) were prepared by encapsulation of hemoglobin with phospholipid mutilayer using rotary vacuum evaporator. The shape and size of hemosomes were measured by phase contrast microscope and image analyzer. The function of hemosomes was tested by measuring oxygen dissociation curve using blood gas analyzer. In order to test whether hemosomes are useful as blood substitute they were infused into rats of which one third of total blood were drawn. The results obtained are summarized at followings. 1) Hemosomes were spherical shape and their mean diameter was 0.7 um. 2) Oxygen dissociation curve of hemosomes showed the same figure as that of normal red blood cells. 3) All rats given 1/3 transfusion with hemosomes survived until sacrificed whereas three of four rats given 1/3 transfusion with saline died within 1 hour and the rest of them died within 24 hours.

Catalyst-free graphene nano-sheets without substrates have been synthesized using fullerene and a high direct current (dc) pulse in the spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Graphene nano-sheets were synthesized directly in the gas phase of carbon atoms which are generated from fullerene at a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. Characterization has been carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Raman spectroscopy (Raman), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Aluminum nitride fibers were synthesized by carbothermal reduction and nitridation of precursor fibers obtained by electrospinning. The starting materials used to synthesize the AlN fibers were $Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ and urea. Polyvinylpyrrolidone with increasing viscidity was used as the carbon source to obtain a composite solution. The mixed solution was drawn into a plastic syringe with a stainless steel needle, which was used as the spinneret and connected to a 20 kV power supply. A high voltage was supplied to the solution to facilitate the formation of a dense net of fibers on the collector. The precursor fibers were dried at $100^{\circ}C$ and then heated to $1,400^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a microwave furnace under $N_2$ gas flow for the carbothermal reduction and nitridation. X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the synthesized fibers consisted of the AlN phase. Field emission scanning electron microscopy studies indicated that the diameter of the calcined fibers was approximately 100 nm.

Heteroepitaxial growth remains as one of the continuously growing interests, because the heterogeneous crystallization on different substrates is a common feature in the fabrication processes of many semiconductor materials and devices, such as molecular beam epitaxy, pulsed laser deposition, sputtering, chemical bath deposition, chemical vapor deposition, hydrothermal synthesis, vapor phase transport and so on [1,2]. By using the R.F. sputtering system, ZnO thin films were deposited on graphene 4 and 6 mono layers, which is grown on 400 nm and 600 nm $SiO_2$ substrates, respectively. The ZnO thin layer was deposited at various temperatures by using a ZnO target. In this experimental, the working power and pressure were $3{\times}10^{-3}$ Torr and 50 W, respectively. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at a pressure around $10^{-6}$ Torr by using a turbo molecular pump. The oxygen and argon gas flows were controlled around 5 and 10 sccm by using a mass flow controller system, respectively. The structural properties of the samples were analyzed by XRD measurement. The film surface and carrier concentration were analyzed by an atomic force microscope and Hall measurement system. The surface morphologies were observed using field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM).

Process Parameters were studied in synthesis of LiCoO$_2$ Powder by ultrasonic spray Pyrolysis. Concentration of the mixed solution influenced the size, shape, and yield of the synthesized powder. The yield was affected primarily by the height of the solution, and then by the flow rate of a carrier gas. The temperature of the reactor governed the crystallinity and morphology of the powder. LiCoO$_2$ powders were synthesized as a layered high temperature phase above 800$^{\circ}C$. The synthesized powders were sphere and secondary Particles consisted of primary particles of 55-70 nm. The secondary Particles became bigger from 0.28 to 1.43 $\mu\textrm{m}$ as the concentration of the solution was increased from 0.05 to 2.0 M. The 2.0 M solution provided the highest production rate.
The present study describes medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (mcl-PHAs) production by the Pseudomonas Gl01 strain isolated from mixed microbial communities utilized for PHAs synthesis. A two-step fed-batch fermentation was conducted with glucose and waste rapeseed oil as the main carbon source for obtaining cell growth and mcl-PHAs accumulation, respectively. The results show that the Pseudomonas Gl01 strain is capable of growing and accumulating mcl-PHAs using a waste oily carbon source. The biomass value reached 3.0 g/l of CDW with 20% of PHAs content within 48 h of cultivation. The polymer was purified from lyophilized cells and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC). The results revealed that the monomeric composition of the obtained polyesters depended on the available substrate. When glucose was used in the growth phase, 3-hydroxyundecanoate and 3-hydroxydodecanoate were found in the polymer composition, whereas in the PHAs-accumulating stage, the Pseudomonas Gl01 strain synthesized mcl-PHAs consisting mainly of 3-hydroxyoctanoate and 3-hydroxydecanoate. The transcriptional analysis using reverse-transcription real-time PCR reaction revealed that the phaC1 gene could be transcribed simultaneously to the phaZ gene.

Furoxanaldehydes possessing phenyl or alkenyl groups at the 3- or 4-position of the furoxan ring were designed for alkyne formation on a solid surface. Furoxans 2 and 3 were prepared from the corresponding alkenes 2a and 3a by the reaction with NaN$O_2$ in acetic acid. Furoxan 4, in which the furoxan ring is conjugated with a double bond, was prepared from bis(bromomethyl)benzene 4a in 5 steps using the Wittig reaction of aldehyde 1 as the key step. The electron beam-mediated fragmentation of furoxanaldehydes 1-4 in a mass spectrometer was exploited by focusing on alkyne formation on the solid surface. The fragmentation of furoxan 3 possessing diaryl groups afforded diarylacetylene at high efficiency, suggesting that the aryl group conjugated with the furoxan ring could facilitate alkyne formation with the evolution of NO.
