  • An axisymmetric Navier-Stokes procedure has been developed to analyze the pulse jet flow in a ceramic filter unit for the dust dislodging process. Using Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model as a closure relationship, the SIAF(Scalar Implicit Approximate Factorization) algorithm together with the ${\delta}^k-Correction$ iterative time marching scheme is adopted to solve the unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations. After some validation tests, the code has been applied to solve the pulse jet flow and examine the effects of geometry and reservoir pressure condition on the pressure level inside the filter unit. To avoid dealing with the uncertainty of such factors as the cohesion of the collected dust and the adhesion of the dust to the medium and also to simplify the analysis, the filter wall is assumed to be impermeable. The results for various test cases are presented.

  • The adsorption and desoprtion properties on Pt(111) of chiral molecules, propylene oxide (PO) and 1,3-dimethyl butylamine (DMBA), have be characterized in utrahigh vacuum. Precision-doses of PO and DMBA onto a Pt(111) surface at 90 K have been achieved with a directed tubular molecular doser controlled by a micron-sized orifice and the reservoir gas pressure. Temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) mass spectra have been employed together with low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) analyses. In addition to the separate adsorption behaviors of PO and DMBA, the enantioselective adsorption of R- and S-PO on Pt(111) precovered with R- or S-DMBA have been investigated thoroughly, and the results will be presented.

  • As proven petroleum reserves decline through continued production. exploration for new oil and gas resources will extend into environments which present significant economic risks arid technical hurdles. Since safety is one of the biggest concerns in drilling operations. the oil industry routinely trains its personnel in areas which are critical for safe and economical drilling procedures. One of these major areas is well control. A kick is defined as an unscheduled flow of formation fluids into a wellhole. A kick occurs whenever the resultant wellbore pressure is less than the formation pressure in an exposed zone capable of producing kick fluids. The typical causes of reduced wellbore pressure are insufficient mud weight. inadequate fluid level in the hole, and swabbing.(omitted)

  • The liquid metal ion sources(LMIS) in FIB system have many advantages of high current density, high brightness, and low ion energy spread. Most FIB systems use LMIS because the beam spot size of LMIS is smaller than of gas field ionization sources(GFIS). LMIS basically consists of a emitter(needle, anode), a reservoir(gallium) and a extractor(cathode). But several LMIS have new electrode called the suppressor. We investigated characteristics of LMIS with a suppressor. The characteristics of the threshold voltage and current-voltage (I-V) were observed under the varying extracting voltage with floated suppressor voltage, and under the varying suppressor voltages with fixed extractor voltage. We also simulated LMIS with the suppressor through CST(Computer Simulation Technology). We can explain characteristics of LMIS with a suppressor using the electric field.

  • An abrupt increase of duct cross-section is frequently encountered in pressure reducing devices, valves of internal combustion engines and in gas pipelines. Supersonic flow in a rectangular duct passing an abrupt increase of cross-section is studied numerically. The behavior of base pressure of the dead-air region at sudden enlargement of the duct is clarified. This investigation concerns the determination of the base pressure, which is independent of the size of the enlarged part. Several flow patterns are identified with different enlargements according to the ratio between the downstream ambient pressure and the upstream reservoir pressure. Base pressure and the resulting shock-structure are highly depending on the size of duct enlargement. For a given duct, base pressure tends to minimum for a particular pressure ratio. In addition, the locations of secondary separation and reattachment points of the jet plume are found with respect to different duct enlargements.

  • With the decline in discoveries of new oil fields and increasing demand from developing countries it is believed that enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies will play a key role to meet the energy demand in years to come. Based on the recently-published data, this paper discusses current status of global EOR market and technical development trends. The EOR market includes oil produced through various EOR recovery methods, such as thermal recovery, gas injection, chemical injection. Also, EOR methods are addressed screening criteria by reservoir and fluid characteristics including lithology, depth, thickness, and oil properties such as composition and gravity. Finally, the examples of field applied by various EOR methods are discussed with respect to reservoir characteristics and performance.

  • Sulfate reduction rates (SRR) using $^{35}SO_4^{-2}$, sulfide producing rates (SPR) using gas chromatography, the number of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) using the most probable number (MPN) method, and soil components (moisture, ammonium, total nitrogen, total organic carbon, total carbon, total inorganic phosphorus, total phosphorus, and sulfate) using standard methods in the organic/conventional rice paddy soils, cleaned/polluted reservoir soils, and cleaned/polluted foreshore soils were studied with the change of seasons. The average SRR was more related to the number of SRB and soil components (especially nitrogen and phosphorus) than sulfate concentration. SRR was also recorded to be highest in October soil samples. However, SPR was higher in foreshore soils containing a high concentration sulfate than in fresh water soils, and it was also recorded to be higher in the polluted areas than in clean areas. From these results, we can conclude that the SRR and SPR of anaerobic environments were affected by the number of SRB, soil components and temperature.

  • The electric submersible pump (ESP) has been operating in production wells around the world because of its high applicability and operational efficiency among artificial lift techniques. When operating an ESP in a reservoir, variables such as temperature, pressure, gas/oil ratio, and flow rate are factors that affect ESP performance. In particular, free gas in the production fluid is a major factor that reduces the life and operational efficiency of ESP. This study presents the flow loop system which can implement the performance and damage tests of ESP considering field operating conditions to quantitatively analyze the variables that affect ESP performance. The developed apparatus in an integrated system that can diagnose the failure and causes of ESP, and detect leak of tubing by linking ESP and tubing as one system. In this study, the flow conditions for stable operation of ESP were identified through single phase and two phase flow experiments related to evaluation for the performance of ESP. The results provide the basic data to develop the failure prediction and diagnosis program of ESP, and are expected to be used for real-time monitoring for optimal operating conditions and failure diagnosis for ESP operation.

  • Manifold researches for carbon capture and storage (CCS) have been developed and large scale-carbon capture system can be performed recently. Hence, the technologies for $CO_2$ sequestration or storage become necessary to handle the captured $CO_2$. Among them, enhanced oil recovery using $CO_2$ can be a solution since it guarantees both oil recovery and $CO_2$ sequestration. In this study, the miscible flow of oil and $CO_2$ in porous media is modeled to analyze the effect of enhanced oil recovery and $CO_2$ sequestration. Based on Darcy-Muskat law, the equation is modified to consider miscibility of oil and $CO_2$ and the change of viscosity. Finite volume method is used for numerical modeling. As results, the pressure and oil saturation changes with time can be predicted when oil, water, and $CO_2$ are injected, respectively, and $CO_2$ injection is more efficient than water injection for oil recovery.
