  • The optimal byproduct gas supply system was developed for the optimal management of the byproduct gases in the iron and steel making process based on EXCEL environment. It supplies optimal byproduct gas distribution result as well as analysis including expected electricity generation, holder level change, amount of oil consumption, energy distribution to each boiler, and efficiency of energy resource. To reflect the changing environment of the plant such as maintenance, the system was developed to easily change the optimization model for changing configuration of the system. To verify the performance of the system , case studies for various situation was performed with the developed system, a...

  • Characteristics of bubbling behavior and bubble properties were investigated in a gas-liquid countercurrent bubble column of in diameter 0.152 m and 3.5 m in height, respectively. Effects of gas and liquid velocities and bubble distribution mode(even, wall-side, central or asymmetric distribution) on the bubble properties such as chord length, frequency, rising velocity and holdup in the reactor were measured and examined by means of dual resistivity probe method. The bubble size, frequency and holdup increased with increasing gas($U_G$) or liquid velocity($U_L$). The rising velocity of bubbles increased with increasing $U_G$, whereas decreased with increasing $U_L$. The uniformity of bubble size distribution and bubble holdup decreased when the distribution mode of bubbles at the gas distributor was changed from even to wall-side, central or asymmetric. The central distribution of bubbles was better than asymmetric mode but worse than wall-side distribution, in considering the bubble holdup and uniformity of distribution.

  • Heat transfer and pressure distribution for heat exchanger type of domestic gas boiler are different from shape, pitch, thickness of fin and array of pipe respectively. In order to measure the pressure distribution across the heat exchanger, a suction type wind tunnel was constructed and velocity distribution was measured for pilot tube(4 point) of rack type. The experiments were performed for 5 different air flow mass, rpm=3,6,9,12,15 and transverse axis of heat exchanger(x-length) is 5cm respectively. Results showed that above 9.5m/s, pressure distribution dispersion for wet type of heat exchanger is on the increase and above 5.5m/s, pressure distribution dispersion for dry type of heat exchanger is on the increase. Also, pressure distribution dispersion by comparing two different types heat exchanger, dry type of heat exchanger showed a higher augmentation than wet type of heat exchanger.

  • This article makes a comparative analysis on the productivity in gas distribution industry between Korea and Japan, using Malmquist productivity index(MPI). The estimated MPI during $1997{\sim}2005$ shows that the productivity of Korean gas distribution industry has been generally higher than that of Japanese gas distribution industry. But Korean MPI made a drastic change from positive improvement (+ 0.37) during $1997{\sim}2000$ to severe deterioration (-0.60) during $2001{\sim}2005$, while Japan MPI has seldom changed. This change of Korean MPI is analyzed to result from the worsening of technical change rather than technical efficiency change. According to this result, Korean gas distribution industry needs to improve the technical change.

  • The characteristics of arc pressure, current density and heat flux distribution are important factors in understanding physical arc phenomena, which will have a marked effect on the penetration, size and shape of a weld in TIG welding. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the heat flux on the melting efficiency and penetration shape in TIG welding using the results of the previous investigators. The conclusions obtained permit to draw a proper method which derived the heat flux distributions by arc pressure distribution measurements, but previous researchers calculated heat flux and current distribution with the heat intensity measurements by the calorimetry. Heat flux of Ar gas arc was concentrated at the central part and distributed low from the arc axis to the radial direction, that of He mixing arc was lower than that of Ar gas, and it was wide distributed to radial direction. That showed a similar characteristic with the Nestor's by calorimetry calculated values. Throughout heat flux drawn in this study was discussed melting efficiency and penetration shape on Ar gas and He mixing gas arc.

  • One of the keys to interpreting the characteristics and evolution of interstellar medium in the Milky Way is to understand the distribution of hot gas ($10^5-10^6K$). Gases in this phase are difficult to observe because they are in low density and lack of easily observable tracers. Hot gases are observed mainly in the emission of the FUV ($912-1800{\AA}$), EUV ($80-912{\AA}$), and X-rays (T> $10^6K$) of which attenuation is very high. Of these, FUV emission lines originated from high-stage ions such as O VI and C IV can be the most effective tracers of hot gases. To determine the spatial distribution of O VI and C IV emissions, we have analyzed the spectra obtained from FIMS (Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph), which covers about 80 percent of the sky. The hot gas volume filling factor, which varies widely from 0.1 to 0.9 depending on the supernova explosion frequency and the evolution model, has been calculated from the O VI and C IV maps. The hot gas generation models has been verified from the global distribution of O VI and C IV emissions, and a new complementary model has been proposed in this study.

  • Day and night sampling for gas and particle phases PAHs were carried out in Seoul to characterize gas and particle phases PAHs concentrations in day and night times. There was no significant difference between day and night time for particle phase PAHs concentrations and phase distribution of PAHs, while, gas phase PAHs concentrations in daytime were about 1/2 of nighttime concentrations in both summer and winter due to photochemical reaction of gas phase PAHs during daytime. A high fraction of cancer risk for PAHs was attributed to particle phase PAHs and the excess cancer risk in winter was higher than in summer. The excess cancer risk level of total(gas+particle) PAHs in summer was partially observed when both gas and particle phase PAHs concentrations were considered as risk assessment. Based on the diagnostic ratios and factor analysis of PAHs concentrations, combustion(coal and natural gas) and vehicular emission might be the most significant contributors of PAHs and major factors for determining of PAHs concentration were different between day and night times.

  • One of the conventional gas burners has nowadays been used for ladle preheating. As a ladle is one of the open-type furnaces, however, it causes to consume much fuel because of high temperature of exhaust gas from the ladle and the exhaust gas passing through ladle cover makes it worsen a working environment nearby. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop the recuperative burner system applying for an existing teeming ladle , which is integrated with burner, recuperator and eductor as one of the new type combustion equipments and has many advantages of simple installation, compactness and easy control, especially a great deal of energy saving through the waste heat recovery from exhaust gas. The contents of the study is to design, manufacture of recuperative burner system and to perform its tests experimentally after applying to the teeming ladle in the capacity of 100 ton. Its heat release rate is 1,700,000 kcal/h with COG(Cokes Oven Gas) as fuel gas. The test items are the temperature distribution inside the ladle and the preheated air temperature change depending upon the exhaust gas. Nox, exhaust gas analysis and noise.

  • This research was carried but to investigate the characteristics of mist removal with the change of operating conditions in the plasma reactor of impulse streamer corona based on the distribution of particle size measured by laser diffraction spectrometers. The operating conditions in this experiment were power of impulse streamer corona, gas velocity, collection time, and SOx/NOx concentration. The collection efficiency T(d) was estimated by distribution of particle size in the collection zone through the advanced model.

  • In this study, the alumina for gas sensor was prepared by anodic oxidation. It was stable thermally and chemically, and pore diameter and pore distribution was uniform. And the shape of pore was cylinderical. The aluminum plate was carried out by the thermal oxidation, chemical polishing and electropolishing pretreatment. The pore diameter, pore size distribution, pore density and thickness of alumina was observed with the change of reaction temperature, electrolyte concentration and current density. As a results, It was able to use for carrier because alumina which was prepared by anodic oxidationhas uniform pore size distribution.
