  • Surface breakdown characteristics are investigated under metallic-particle contaminated conditions in $SF_6$ gas. The main results show that a rib increases breakdown voltage by a corona stabilization effect and the elongation of discharge path. The breakdown voltage at higher pressures than 4 atm may be estimated on the basis of mean breakdown field strength($E_{BD}$) and discharge length(L) which depend on gas pressure and surface shape.

  • As the industry of 21C has been developed, the gas industry has been grown and its convenience but it accompany risk for using gas. Therefore, we designed a vent area to prevent the collapse of the booth by the explosion pressure during test. The explosion booth was installed fur training safety supervisors to aware the risk of gas explosion. The vent area was designed based on the exhaust model of NFPA 68. It was calculated at $2.8297m^2$ for LPG and at $3.0518m^2$ for NG.

  • Three types of gas-liquid hybrid horizontal, vertical and needle-to-cylinder plasma reactors were fabricated. Through these reactors, a high-efficiency, eco-friendly cleaning concept that generates reactive active species generated in atmospheric plasma discharge and gas-liquid activation reaction of cleaning components through the potential difference within the electrode was presented. As a result of comparing the efficiency for cleaning performance, the needle-to-cylinder type reactor had the best characteristics. Through this study, it was confirmed that the gas-liquid hybrid atmospheric pressure plasma reactor has the potential to be applied to ultra-precision cleaning processes such as semiconductor processes.

  • Carbon black is a material in the form of fine black powder obtained by incomplete combustion or pyrolysis of hydrocarbons, and is composed of 90-99% carbon, and the rest is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. In the event of an emergency during the manufacture of carbon black, the generated tail gas should be safely discharged through an emergency line to prevent fire, explosion, and environmental pollution accidents caused by the tail gas. If the pressure continues to rise, the pressure control valve shall operate and the rupture plate shall be ruptured sequentially and the tail gas shall be discharged to the vent stack through the emergency line. As an emergency emission system, even if some untreated substances in the tail gas are released into the atmosphere, they are lighter than air, so it is safe to discharge them to a safe place through the Vent Stack. If the gas pressure is rising or worse, it is discharged from the Vent Stackine, and discharging fuel.

  • Hydrogen is one of the most popular eco-friendly energy sources for reducing global warming. To use hydrogen as a conventional fuel, liquid hydrogen plants should introduce waste hydrogen treatment processes. A major safety issue of liquid hydrogen plants is choosing the most suitable purge gas to use in case of an accident. A purge gas prevents the formation of explosive mixed gases in the vent header. In general, nitrogen is the main purge gas used in chemical plants. Nitrogen has a freezing point of -210℃, which is higher than the boiling point of hydrogen. Helium, with a freezing point lower than hydrogen, is instead recommended as a purge gas of the vent header during hydrogen liquefaction. However, helium is roughly 100 times more expensive than nitrogen. To address this issue, this study uses simulations to investigate safe conditions for introducing nitrogen as the purge gas during hydrogen liquefaction. The temperature change from the safety valve to the vent header is evaluated when the external temperature of the safety valve discharge pipe is at 5℃, 10℃, and 20℃. Additionally, the most optimal length for a discharge pipe according to pipe diameter is investigated.

  • Copper oxide films have been deposited on silicon substrates by direct current magnetron sputtering of Cu in O2 / Ar gas mixtures. The target oxidation occurring as a result of either adsorption or ion-plating of reactive gases to the target has a direct effect on the discharge current and the resulting composition of the deposited films. The kinetic model which relates the target oxidation to the discharge current was proposed, showing the one-to-one relationship between discharge current characteristics and film stoichiometry of the deposited films.

  • Plasma oscillation has been observed during the development of the glow discharge as detector for gas chromatography. The variation of oscillation frequency shows the better stability and detection limits than the changes in the dischange curent. To investigate the range of useful operating conditions and to gain insight into the mechanism, the effect of experimental parameters on plasma oscillation have been studied. This study includes the variation of discharge current, pressure and discharge gap. Frequency ranges of 10KHz to 10MHz have been observed with the various shapes of oscillation. Two kinds of mode for oscillation are observed with the variation of electrode gap at low pressure and low voltage.

  • The decomposition performance of the Surface induced Plasma Chemical Processing(SPCP) for benzene, toluene, xylene and $NO_2$ were experimentally examined. Discharge exciting frequency range was 5kHz and 10kHz, and low frequency discharge requires high voltage to inject high electric power in gas and to decompose contaminants. The decomposition rate of dioxide nitrogen for 5kHz power in gas and to decompose contaminants. The decomposition rate of dioxide nitrogen for 5kHz power supply is only 85%, but it’s rate for 10kHz power supply is very high, more than 96% when peak voltage is 12kv. Aromatic hydrocarbon vapor of up to 1000ppm is almost throughly decomposed at the flow rate of 1000$\ell$/min or lower rate under the discharge with electric power of several hundred watts. High decomposition rate is shown in every case, that is, for SPCP reactor is necessary to obtain the decomposition rate of more than 80~98%. The decomposition rate of benzene, toluene and xylene were 90~98% and dioxide nitrogen was 45~96%.
