  • To investigate the optimum condition of 3-monochloro-1, 2-propanediol(MCPD) analysis, gas chromatography with electron capture detector was used. Determination of MCPD derivatized with phenylboric acid was more effective than that of underivatized MCPD. In derivatization of MCPD with phenyl boric acid, there were no significantly different between boiling for 2min at 9$0^{\circ}C$ and vortexing for 5min at room temperature. Extrelut column was suitable for extraction of MCPD diluted in 20% NaCl solution and recovery rates were higher than direct extraction of MCPD with ethyl acetate. But, the method of direct extraction of MCPD with ethyl acetate was useful for rapid ants qualitative analysis. The sample extracted in soysauce(ganjang) was derivatized with phenylboric acid and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass selective detector. That was confirmed as MCPD-phenylboronate.

  • X-ray absorption rate and multiplication factor of X-ray detector were calculated with Garfield code. High Z (= atomic number) was important factor to increase the absorption rate but low Z is also important to increase the multiplication. Five different gas composition were examined under the condition of 1400 V bias and 400 um gap. Xe 100% gas showed the highest absorption rate and He 96% + isobutene 4% showed the highest multiplication.

  • The changes in discharge current, emission and/or oscillation frequency of the electric oscillation of a glow discharge are the potential sensitive measure of the concentration of an impurity in the argon plasma supporting gas. A single jet enhanced glow discharge has been interfaced with the gas chromatograph via 1/8" O.D. tube with a heating pad to study the changes in discharge current. To investigate the optimum operating conditions of the glow discharge system as detector for gas chromatography, pressure, gas flow rate, discharge current, distance between the anode and the cathode have been studied.

  • In this paper, we developed an explosion proof type and portable combustible gas leak detector and proposed an algorithm to improve the accuracy for measuring gaseous concentrations. The nation's first we developed an infrared gas leak detector with explosion proof standard(Ex d ib) and improved measuring accuracy by using linearization recursion equation and 2nd Lagrange interpolation polynomial. Together, we advanced their performances and added their easy functions after investigating field demands. To compare our and other company's detectors, we performed measurement tests with eight standard gases made by Korea Gas Safety Corporation. We demonstrated the excellence of our instruments in measuring accuracy other than detecters through experimental results.

  • The electron-capture detector (ECD) of gas chromatographs (GC) has been used widely in pesticide analysis. However, as ECD relies on radioactive material, it is troublesome to purchase and maintain. Therefore, potent replacements for ECD were investigated. A Pulsed-discharge detector (PDD) for ECD was tested and the analytical results of PDD (ECD mode), ${\mu}ECD$, and nitrogen-phosphorus detector (NPD) were compared for 107 pesticides including organochroline, organophosphorus, pyrethroids etc. The number of pesticides identified at the lowest limit of detection (LOD) was 36, 29, and 2 for PDD, ${\mu}ECD$, and NPD, respectively. The remaining pesticides showed same response to PDD and ${\mu}ECD$. The GC-PDD analysis of pesticides spiked into representative agricultural products (brown rice, spinach, and mandarin oranges) also showed good and/or equivalent recoveries using $GC-{\mu}ECD$.

  • Radiation monitoring is one of the most important process in all places where radioactive material is used including hospital. In this preliminary study, we made GAS electron multiplier (GEM) detector and acquired relative efficiencies in order to see if GEM detector can be useful in radiation monitoring system. The relative efficiency was acquired by using the ratio of GEM detector efficiency to CdTe detector efficiency. The relative efficiency of 72% and 4% was acquired for beta-ray and gamma-ray respectively.

  • A specific and sensitive gas chromatographic (GC) procedure with the flame photometric detector (FPD) was developed for determination of barbiturates such as barbital, allobarbital, secobarbital, phenobarbital and thiopental in plasma. In order to evaluate the performance of the FPD, the results were campared with those of the flame ionization detector (FID). After extraction of barbiturates from plasma, the barbiturates were quantitatively N, N-dimethylthiometyl (MTM)-derivatized with methylthiomethyl chloride in 1, 8-diazabicyclo [5, 4, 0] undec-7-ene catalyst. The data indicate that the FPD is about 4 times more sensitive than the FID for barbiturates, although it is less reproducible. The FPD also produced chromatogram with less back ground for extracted plasma sample. The FPD also produced chromatogram with less background for extracted plasma sample. The minimum detectable amount of MTM-thiopental on 3% OV-225 column was 4, 4fmol and that of other MTM-barbiturate was about 10.0fmol.

  • We present a novel non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) $CO_2$ gas sensor with a light source emitting collimated light. Using this thermopile, we also have successfully developed a small, sensitive NDIR $CO_2$ detector module for accurate air quality monitoring systems in energy-saving building and automotive applications. The novel sample cavity comprising specular reflectors around the light bulb is configured to uniformly emit collimated light into the entrance aperture of the cavity in order to enhance the sensitivity of NDIR $CO_2$ detector.

  • The domestic gas detector installation standards applied to gas detectors, which are one of the facilities that can prevent accidents such as fire, explosion, and leakage that can cause serious industrial accidents, do not take into account the behavioral characteristics of hazardous chemicals in the atmosphere. It can be seen that the technical basis is insufficient because the standard is applied. Therefore, in this study, the size of the leak hole for each facility mainly used in chemical plants and the diffusion distance according to the concentration of interest of hazardous chemicals were analyzed, and based on this, the optimal installation distance for gas detectors for each material was suggested. Using the method presented in this study, more economical and effective gas detector installation can be expected, and furthermore, it can be expected to help prevent serious industrial accidents.

  • Recently, we can find news about toxic and combustible gas accident. So, we have to develop gas detector that can measure gas at dangerous area for preventing gas accidents. In this paper, we calculate a approximation function from sensor's output using the linear regressiong. And we develop software algorithm using Neville's algorithm for measuring gas concentration. Finally, we compare our algorithm with combustible gas detectors that are already developed, by using standard gas samples manufactured Korea Gas Safety. As a result of this experiment, we confirm that performance of our algorithm is more improved than performance of already developed combustible gas detectors. In the future, we'll research how to improve reliability from using count, temperature and humidity. And we'll design hardware applied explosion proof for safety.
