  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of height of shoe lifts on gait and balance in hemiplegic patients. Twenty-two hemiplegic patients who were receiving rehabilitation treatment at Hanyang University Seoul Hospital and National Rehabilitation Center participated in this study from November 8, 2002 through March 20, 2003. Data analysis using repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni method, for a post-test. The results of this study were as follows : First, shoe lift on the height of 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm significantly improved, as compared to un-lift status, in gait velocity, PCI, weight bearing(p<0.05). Second, gait velocity was significantly difference between 3mm and 9mm, and between 3mm and 12mm, and weight bearing on the affected side was significantly difference between 3mm and 12mm, and between 6mm and 12mm(p<0.05). Third, after the shoe lift removed was significantly improved in gait velocity, PCI, weight bearing than before shoe lifts being added(p<0.05). These results suggest that shoe lift on the unaffected side may helpful for improving the gait efficiency and symmetrically of weight bearing. Furthermore, persistence of gait efficiency and symmetrically of weight bearing after removing the shoe lift suggests carryover effect of gait training on shoe lift of unaffected side.

  • Method : Chronic motor tic or vocal tic disorders are characterized which have one of the two kinds of tics for more than a year. It is characterized chronic motor tic or vocal tic disorders that have one of the two kinds of tics for more than a year. But Tourette's disorder is a disease which has one or more motor tics and vocal tics for more than a year. Contemporary empirical studies have suggested the rate of comorbid attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) or obsessive compulsive disorder(OCD) in children with tic disorders be high. Objects : As society is confusing, tic disorders are increasing. Therefore, determining the treatment strategy in children with tic disorders is very important. So we studied the literatures of traditional chinese medicine about tic disorders and reported the results. Results : The principals for medical treatment were So-gan(疏肝), I-gi(理氣), Sik-pung(熄風), Gin-kyung(鎭痙), Chung-oel(淸熱) etc. Medicines treatment is used more than acupuncture treatment. The herbs are used Uncariae ramulus et Uncus(釣鉤藤), Paeoniae Radix Alba(白芍藥), Poria(白茯岺), Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Bupleuri Radi.x(柴胡), Fossilia ossis Mastodi(龍骨) etc. in the order named. • In Cheon Won Gi Dae Ron(天元紀大論), Cheon(大) means Nature, Won(元) means sources, Gi(紀) is Gang Gi(綱紀) that means rules or regulations, so Cheon Won Gi(天元紀) means sources and rules of change that make Nature phenomenons. This volume treats of cause that weather change of Nature caused by, and its general rules, and presents fundamental notions and systems of measuring of 'Five elements' evolutions and Six kinds of natural factors(五運六氣)'. So named Cheon Won Gi Dae Ron(天元紀大論). This article of the research on the Cheon Won Gi Dae Ron(天元紀大論) can be divided into 3 chapters. Chapter 1 presents a theory that the principle of changes of creations' birth, groth and extinction is complished by sympathizing with Hyeong(形) of Ji(地) and Gi(氣) of Cheon(大) by rules of movement of O Un Yum Yang(五運陰陽). Chapter 2 presents theories that Tae Heo(太虛) makes Won Gi(元氣), and this Won Gi(元氣) makes the change of creations' birth, groth and extinction, and movement of O Un(五運) controls creation of nature. And treats of that 'excessive and short(太過不及)' that is made by a quality of Gi(氣) and ups and dons of Hyeong(形) controls weather of year. In Chapter 3, Cheon O Ji Yuk(天五地六) regard six and five as Yong(用). And A Cycle that movment that sympathizing with O Un(五運) and Yuk Gi(六氣) is Il Gi(一氣) as 30 years, and Il Ju(一周) as 60 years. • This paper propose an expanded ASP exclusive development framework method. We applied a module to the suggested method which suit to develope ASP. Proposed method is a kind of module, which manages MVC develope methodology and treats Query and ASP information as a XML. It has flexibility which meets the client's request quickly. Using inherited base model which previously exist in template source, developer only concerned with development methodology so that they can reduce development time and reinforce a integrity of system. We proposed these improvements as a framework. Experimental results validate our scheme, showing a fewer number of files and a better flexibility than other development method, and also about 29% of program code has been reduced.

  • Accroding to "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)", when the food and drink[水穀] enter the mouth, they divided into two different things with solid food[食] and liquid food[飮], then transformed and absorbed into Jeong(精), Gi(氣), and Jinaek(津液) and spread to the entire body. The movement and transformation[運化] of the food and drink in the body can be distinctly described with the circulation of the Yeonggi(營氣) Wigi(衛氣) and metabolism of Jinaek. The leftover food[糟粕] which is not transformed into Jinaek, not delivered to the Jangbu(藏府) like Gan(肝), Shim(心), Bi(脾) and Pe(肺), brought to the Daejang(大腸) and transported through the baekmun(魄門). Or some of them are verified at the Hoejang(廻腸) and brought to the Banggwang(膀胱) through the Hacho(下焦) then transpired them outside the body. The distinguishing mark of the movement and transformation of the food and drink and its transpiration in the "Hwangjenaegyeong" is that the Sin(腎) of five jangs is exclude from the process of the movement and transformation and the process is explained with the fluid like Gi and Jinaek. From the "Nangyeong(難經)", developing of Myeongmun(命門) theory, the importance of the Sin in the delivering process of the food and drink is remarkably highlighted; however in the late period of Chosun dynasty(朝鮮), Seokgok Igyujun(石谷 李奎晙) denied the temporary theory of Myongmun and asserted the original interpretation recovery of "Hwangjenaegyeong".

  • The Ω-loop is a nonregular and flexible structure that plays an important role in molecular recognition, protein folding, and thermostability. In the present study, molecular dynamics simulation was carried out to assess the molecular stability and flexibility profile of the porcine trypsin structures. Two Ω-Loops (fragment 57-67 and fragment 78-91) were confirmed to represent the flexible region. Subsequently, glycosylation site-directed mutations (A73S, N84S, and R104S) were introduced within the Ω-loop region and its wing chain based on its potential N-glycosylation sites (Asn-Xaa-Ser/Thr consensus sequences) and structure information to improve the thermostability of trypsin. The result demonstrated that the half-life of the N84S mutant at 50℃ increased by 177.89 min when compared with that of the wild-type enzyme. Furthermore, the significant increase in the thermal stability of the N84S mutant has also been proven by an increase in the Tm values determined by circular dichroism. Additionally, the optimum temperatures of the wild-type enzyme and the N84S mutant were 75℃ and 80℃, respectively. In conclusion, we obtained the thermostability-improved enzyme N84S mutant, and the strategy used to design this mutant based on its structural information and N-linked glycosylation modification could be applied to engineer other enzymes to meet the needs of the biotechnological industry.

  • The ionic composition of soil solution is related to a nutrient uptake by plant. Many models for estimating ionic composition of solution have been developed, and most of them have been used for calculating a content of mineral and ionic species in a geochemical point of view. An approximation model considering both cation and anion in soil solution was developed. Variables such as pH, Eh, EC, cations(K, Ca, Mg. Na, Fe, Mn, Al, $NH_4{^+}$), anions(Si, S, P, CY, $NO_3{^-}$, $HCO_3{^-}$ and chemical equilibria of ionic species in soil solution were input into Excel sheet. The activities of soluble ion, ionpairs and complexes of input element were estimated by Newton-Raphson method using conditional equilibrium constant calculated by Davies equation and special models. Equilibrium contents of insoluble minerals and complexes were also calculated.

  • Purpose: To identify prostate cancer lncRNAs using a pipeline proposed in this study, which is applicable for the identification of lncRNAs that are differentially expressed in prostate cancer tissues but have a negligible potential to encode proteins. Materials and Methods: We used two publicly available RNA-Seq datasets from normal prostate tissue and prostate cancer. Putative lncRNAs were predicted using the biological technology, then specific lncRNAs of prostate cancer were found by differential expression analysis and co-expression network was constructed by the weighted gene co-expression network analysis. Results: A total of 1,080 lncRNA transcripts were obtained in the RNA-Seq datasets. Three genes (PCA3, C20orf166-AS1 and RP11-267A15.1) showed a significant differential expression in the prostate cancer tissues, and were thus identified as prostate cancer specific lncRNAs. Brown and black modules had significant negative and positive correlations with prostate cancer, respectively. Conclusions: The pipeline proposed in this study is useful for the prediction of prostate cancer specific lncRNAs. Three genes (PCA3, C20orf166-AS1, and RP11-267A15.1) were identified to have a significant differential expression in prostate cancer tissues. However, there have been no published studies to demonstrate the specificity of RP11-267A15.1 in prostate cancer tissues. Thus, the results of this study can provide a new theoretic insight into the identification of prostate cancer specific genes.

  • Background: The geriatric population in Malaysia is predicted to increase from 4% of the total population in 1998 to 9.8% by 2020, in parallel with developments in the socioeconomy. Cancer is expected to be a major medical issue among this population. However, the decision for treatment in Malaysia is always decided by the caregivers instead of the elderly patients themselves. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the willingness to accept chemotherapy among elderly Malaysians. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients aged 60 and above from various clinics/wards were recruited. Those giving consent were interviewed using a questionnaire. Results: A total of 75 patients were recruited, 35 patients (47%) with a history of cancer. The median age was 73 years old. There were 29 Chinese (38.7%), 22 Indian (29.3%), 20 Malay (26.7%) and four other ethnicity patients. Some 83% and 73% of patients willing to accept strong and mild chemotherapy, respectively. Patients with cancer were more willing to accept strong and mild chemotherapy compared to the non-cancer group (88.6% vs 62.5%, P=0.005, 94% vs 80%, P=0.068). On sub-analysis, 71.4% and 42.9% of Chinese patients without a history of cancer were not willing to receive strong and mild chemotherapy, respectively. Conclusions: The majority of elderly patients in UMMC were willing to receive chemotherapy if they had cancer. Experience with previous treatment had positive influence on the willingness to undergo chemotherapy.

  • Background: Pemetrexed (PEM) is effective in first-line treatment for patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However there are currently no definitive determinants to certify which patients could benefit from PEM. To improve the efficacy of PEM combined with platinum as first-line therapy for advanced non-squamous NSCLC, we conducted this retrospective study to detect potential determinants of this regimen. Methods: We recruited 109 patients with advanced non-squamous NSCLC who received PEM with a platinum as first-line therapy from June 2006 to February 2013 in Jiangsu Cancer Hospital. Multiple variables (age, sex, smoking, degree of cell differentiation, hemoglobin, platinum drugs combined, positions of metastasis) were selected. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse relationships between these variables and tumor response. Result: In univariate analysis, we found that age and platinum significantly influenced the results of PEM therapy (P<0.05). In multivariable analysis, no factors were independently significant. Conclusion: Our analysis did not suggest that the age, sex, metastasis of liver or other organs, hemoglobin, smoking history and pathological differentiation are associated with the response of PEM. We should conduct further analyses with larger sample size to reconfirm this issue.
