  • KCCH cyclotron neutron(30cCy/min) 및 $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}-ray(210cGy/min)$를 시험관내의 정상인체 말초혈액임파구에 조사하여 염색체이상(dicentric 및 centric ring)을 관찰하고 이의 선량-반응관계식을 linear model$(Y=K_1D+a)$, power-law model$(Y=K_2D^n)$, quadratic model$(Y=K_3D^2)$ 및 linear-quadratic model$(Y={\alpha}D+{\beta}D^2)$을 사용하여 구하고 이들 model중 염색체이상의 측정치와 가장 일치하는 관계식을 근거로 하여 ${\gamma}-ray$에 대한 neutron의 relative biological effectiveness (RBE)를 산출하였다. 염색체 이상(dicentric plus centric ring)의 발생분포는 ${\gamma}-ray$의 경우 linear model(P=0.067)을 제외한 power-law model$[Y=(5.81{\pm}1.96){\times}10^6D^{1.93+0.06},\;P=0.931]$, quadratic model$[Y=(3.91{\pm}0.09){\times}10^{-6}D^2,\;P=0.972]$ 및 linear-quadratic model $[Y=(6.55{\pm}6.83){\times}10^{-5}D+(3.72{\pm}0.22){\times}10^{-6}D^2$ P=0.922]에 적합하였다 neutron의 경우 linear model $(Y=(6.12{\pm}0.17){\times}10^{-3}\;D-0.22,\;P=0.987]$에 가장 일치하였고 quadratic model (P<0.005)을 제외한 power-law model $[Y=(5.36{\pm}3.02) {\times}10^{-4}D^{1.42+0.11},\;P=0.601]$ 및 linear-quadratic model $[Y=(2.43{\pm}0.70){\times}10^{-3}D+(1.21{\pm}0.39){\times}10^{-7}D^2,\;P=0.415]$에 비교적 적합하였다. 세포당 0.1-1.5개의 염색체이상을 나타내는 neutron의 ${\gamma}-ray$에 대한 RBE는 $2.714{\pm}0.408$이었다.

Comparison of nano/micro lead, bismuth and tungsten on the gamma shielding properties of the flexible composites against photon in wide energy range (40 keV-662 keV)

  • In the radiation protection application, the metal-polymer composites have been developed for their radiation shielding properties. In this research, the elastomer composites doped by 10 ㎛ and 100nm size of lead, bismuth and tungsten particles as filler with 30 and 60 wt percentages were prepared. To survey the shielding properties of the polymer composites using gamma-ray emitted from 152Eu and 137Cs sources, the gamma flux was measured by using NaI(Tl) detector, then the linear attenuation coefficient was calculated. Also, the Monte Carlo simulation (MCs) method was used. The results showed a direct relationship between the linear attenuation coefficients of the absorbent and filler ratio. Also, the decrease in the particle size of the shielding material in each weight percentage improved the radiation shielding features. When the dimension of the particles was in the order of nano-size, more attenuation was achieved. At low energies used for medical diagnostic X-ray applications due to the predominance of the photoelectric effect, bismuth and lead were suitable selection as filler.

  • Cs-137 및 Co-60감마선 조사장치를 사용하여 비임의 입체각이 $2.4{\pi}{\times}10^{-3}sr$에서 $17.3{\pi}{\times}10^{-3}sr$로 변함에 따른 공기의 산란인자와 두께 2.9cm 납 흡수체 사용에 따른 축적인자를 결정하였다. 그 결과 산란인자는 $1{\sim}1.064$, 축적인자는 $1.054{\sim}1.194$범위의 값을 갖는 것으로 각각 나타났다. 결정된 인자들의 검증을 위하여 계산값과 측정값을 비교한 결과 그 차이는 3.3%이하인 것으로 나타났다.

Design and Fabrication of CLYC-Based Rotational Modulation Collimator (RMC) System for Gamma-Ray/Neutron Dual-Particle Imager

  • Background: This work aims to develop a new imaging system based on a pulse shape discrimination-capable Cs2LiYCl6:Ce (CLYC) scintillation detector combined with the rotational modulation collimator (RMC) technique for dual-particle imaging. Materials and Methods: In this study, a CLYC-based RMC system was designed based on Monte Carlo simulations, and a prototype was fabricated. Therein, a rotation control system was developed to rotate the RMC unit precisely, and a graphical user interface-based software was also developed to operate the data acquisition with RMC rotation. The RMC system was developed to allow combining various types of collimator masks and detectors interchangeably, making the imaging system more versatile for various applications and conditions. Results and Discussion: Operational performance of the fabricated system was studied by checking the accuracy and precision of the collimator rotation and obtaining modulation patterns from a gamma-ray source repeatedly. Conclusion: The prototype RMC system showed reliability in its mechanical properties and reproducibility in the acquisition of modulation patterns, and it will be further investigated for its dual-particle imaging capability with various complex radioactive source conditions.

  • Cysteamine(Mercaptoethylamine, MEA), S-2-Aminoethyl isothionronium Bromide HBr(AET) 및 S-2(2-Aminoethyl) Dihydrogen phosphorothioate(WR-638)들을 합성(合成)하고 이들 각각(各各) 또는 그들의 혼합물(混合物)의 $^{60}Co$ ${\gamma}$-선(線) 방사선(放射線)에 대(對)한 장해방호효과(障害防護效果)를 ICR생쥐를 사용(使用)하여 검토(檢討)하였다. 조사전(照射前) 15분(分)에 복강내(腹腔內)에 약제(藥劑)를 투여(投與)하고 그 효과(效果)를 검토(檢討)한바 MEA, AET 및 그들 혼합물(混合物)에 있어서는 약독작용(藥毒作用)이 관찰(觀察)되었으나 WR-638 및 AET와의 혼합물(混合物)에서는 약독작용(藥毒作用)이 경미(輕微)하거나 또는 거의 없었다. 시험(試驗)한 각각(各各)의 화합물(化合物) 및 그 혼합물(混合物)들은 $^{60}Co$ $\gamma$-선(線) 방사선(放射線)에 대(對)한 방호효과(防護效果)를 나타냈으며 AET와 WR-638의 혼합물(混合物)에 있어서는 부가(附加)된 방사선(放射線) 방호효과(防護效果)가 관찰(觀察)되었다.

  • Neutron dose assessment in criticality accidents using Whole Body Counter (WBC) was proved to be an effective method as rapid neutron dose estimation at the JCO criticality accident in Tokai-mura. The 1.36MeV gamma-ray of $^{24}Na$ in a body can be detected easily by a germanium detector. The Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) of $^{24}Na$ is approximately 50Bq for 10miniute measurement by the germanium-type whole body counter at JNC Tokai Works. Neutron energy spectra at the typical shielding conditions in criticality accidents were calculated and the conversion factor, whole body activity-to-organ mass weighted neutron absorbed dose, corresponding to each condition were determined. The conversion factor for uncollied fission spectrum is 7.7 $[(Bq^{24}Na/g^{23}Na)/mGy]$.

  • The influence of lead cations on natural quartz (QZ) from Egypt as a glass shielding material for the composition with nominal formula (10Na2O - (90 - x) QZ - xPbO (where x = 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 mol %)) was examined. The studied samples are synthesized via the melt quenching method at 1050 ℃. The X-ray diffraction XRD patterns were confirmed the glass nature for studied samples. Moreover, the optical properties, and the transparency for all compositions were examined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Also, the major elemental composition of the natural quartz were estimated via the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technique. Further, the density and molar volume were determined. Furthermore, the nuclear shielding parameters such as, mass attenuation coefficient, effective atomic number, electronic density, the total atomic, and electronic cross sections as well as the mean free path, and the half value layer with different gamma ray energies (81 keV-1407 keV) were calculated. Besides, the results showed that the shielding behavior towards the gamma ray radiation for all glass samples was increased as the increment in PbO concentration in the glass system.
