  • The purpose of this study is to implement game content within the generative artificial intelligence module Chat-GPTs, grounded in the humanistic discourse of self-reflection. This content aims to empower the dignity of the silver generation, which has been marginalized by digital technology. Simultaneously, we intend to prototype a digital psychotherapeutic tool. The development of a flexible device that adapts to the silver generation's living environment and temporal constraints is also part of our plan. However, there are still few commercially available products, and digital therapeutics developed in the form of content are virtually nonexistent. The goal is to implement game content that allows the elderly, who have been marginalized by digital technology, to find their true dignity. Simultaneously, we plan to commercialize a prototype of digital psychotherapy that can flexibly adapt to the range of living environments and time constraints of the elderly. This study has been extended based on the game content 'Daily Run' created by Hyein Kwon, an undergraduate student at Kyungil University.

The expected effects of the game are the satisfaction of bodily sensation with cooperation and competition, and also remedy by entertainment such as vital power, maintaining mental functions with the game playing. We have tested 309 elders who were more than 65 years old in Cheonan city community center for the elderly. 76.1% of them answered they were satisfied totally for the game play, average grade for the interest/fun of the game was 4.13 points with full 5 points. 89.4% of them replied they would like to play the game again. We found the intended permissiveness and coenesthesia of the game was appealing to elders.

  • This research is about development and usability test of 'Paldokangsan4' which is a serious game for the elderly to improve their physical and mental health. This game is the next version of last 'Paldokangsan3' developed in 2013. Its motion capture interface 'Kinect' has been stopped for production that we have to develop the next version with 'Kinect2'. We added a personal ID system to accumulate palyers' game histories, and let the player know the the current score comparing to the personal average score every time. Also we added real mart background to the traditional old market background of the game as well as a tutorial level to learn how to play the game personally. In 2016 Play Expo, we have installed and demonstrated it and gathered opinions of 40 volunteers in questionnaire. The result of their analysis showed that we could find the possibility of beneficial effects for the elderly following the last version.

This study explored the current status of the information leisure activity of the aging generation (computer use activity, internet service participation, social community participation and blogging, UCC, etc.) and the need for serious games among elderly consumers. It analyzed the current status of serious game and information leisure span as determined by experts on elderly care at the aging welfare institute. The research methods involved applying content analysis and focus group interviews. The results were as follows: The elderly are willing to enjoy the internet and economics networks. In particular, economic investment, economic news, health, meetings, and communication are the main internet search categories. The results for serious games are less interesting than those for IT participation. The components of usefulness in terms of serious games, as identified by care experts, are simplicity, a user-friendly interface, efficacy, and certainty in using the game device. Care experts recognize that serious games represent a supplementary device to traditional physical and emotional therapy.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the EEG according to the elderly's tendency to be addicted to smartphone games. We compared the effects of smartphone addiction on mental health such as brain waves, sleep problems and depression through comparative analysis of asymmetry and connectivity in quantitative EEG results. The study participants were two elderly people who were addicted to smartphone game and one elderly person who did not use smartphone (Ed- to confirm: only 3 participants?!). The participant's addiction tendency of smartphone was measured by using the smartphone addiction scale and EEG (QEEG) was used for EEG analysis. The results are as follows. First, the brain waves of elderly people and smartphone non-user elderly who showed symptoms of immersion and smartphone game showed a difference in asymmetry in both opening and closing anisles. Second, there were significant differences in the openness and the anxiety of the elderly who were immersed in the mobile phone and the elderly who did not use the smartphone. Through this, it is also meaningful to explore the relationship between senile cognitive impairment and smartphone use by exploring the effect of smartphone game use on brain cognitive function through comparison of EEG analysis.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an exercise program using a virtual reality game and a gait exercise program using a treadmill on % maximum voluntary isometric contraction (%MVIC) and static and dynamic balancing capabilities. Methods: A total of 26 elderly women were included in the study. 13 women were assigned to an exercise program using a virtual reality game, and 13 to a gait exercise program using a treadmill. The subjects performed the exercise for 40 min per session, three sessions per week, for eight weeks. Results: The %MVIC of the vastus medialis was significantly increased from $28.91{\pm}2.03%$ to $32.98{\pm}2.6%$ in the virtual reality game exercise group (p<0.00). The %MVIC of the vastus lateralis was significantly increased from $27.17{\pm}1.93%$ to $31.50{\pm}2.18%$ (p<0.00) in the gait exercise program group. The whole path length with both feet on the floor and eyes open was significantly decreased from $1570.92{\pm}820.6mm$ to $1343.62{\pm}242.41mm$ (p<0.00). The whole path length with both feet on the floor and eyes closed was significantly decreased from $1819.85{\pm}361.14mm$ to $1581.05{\pm}285.11mm$ (p<0.00). The length of a functional reach was significantly increased from $25.2{\pm}4.23cm$ to $27.68{\pm}4.04cm$ (p<0.00). Conclusion: The exercise program using a virtual reality game is effective for improving the %MVIC and static and dynamic balancing capabilities in elderly women aged 65 years and more.

  • In this study, game-aided human life type game design method is suggested. It mainly deals with the permissiveness of the game rules and coenesthesia of the game that are fitted with the agility of the elders such as the performance of a selective response. And 'Rolling hoops Balance Game' has been implemented by applying the game-aided human life type game. Since the pressure sensors are installed on each parts of the chair type game controller, to play the game, a gamer simply uses her hands and feet to press the sensors without requirements of the complex movements. The goal of the game are the leg muscles strength and improvement of the body balancing ability. In addition, the game graphics consists of sensory stimuli package(Namazi, Haynes, reminiscence therapy, 1994) to make friendly mood for elders. We have tested 50 elders who were more than 65 years old. 74% of them answered they were satisfied totally for the game play. It is a meaningful result that 88% of participants replied they would like to play the game again.
