  • Mobile games have emerged as the most innovative entertainment technology, adding new revenue streams, taking advantage of the potential of wireless applications and service offerings. Mobile games, like any other types of computer game, offer a unique value for users in providing an exciting digital experience in virtual worlds. Players can become empowered through the development of new characters and strategies within games to achieve rewarding successes against the computers and other players. The overall trend for mobile games is towards bigger, more colorful, more involving and exciting contents, which will build upon the developing capabilities of mobile phones and networks in order to bring new styles, concepts and experiences of game play to the users. In this paper, we attempt to investigate the demographic factors which play critical roles in determining the level of playing times; classify mobile gamers based on their motives for playing games; and empirically test differences in their demographic factors and mobile game usage. Statistical results show that significant differences in playing times exist, depending upon their age, gender, mobile device, mobile phone usage, mobile game experiences, and preferred games genres. Applying Factor analysis, we have identified Escape, Social interaction, Challenge and Competition, Fantasy, Diversion and Relaxation, Ease of Accessibility as key motivators for playing mobile games. Additional cluster analysis shows that the categorization of gamers, according to their usage habits and the key motivators for playing, can be made as follows: M-gamers, Multi-gamers and Communication-focused gamers. Further correlation of these grouping with socio-economic data shows the significant differences in gaming habits and patterns of mobile phone use.

  • In many countries, recently computer programming eduction has become mandatory for K-12 students. Generally since programming is difficult for K-12 students to learn, a lot of previous works have been published in which the study motivation and class satisfaction increased when game programming was applied to programming classes. We investigated a research in which we used game programming in the programming classes for middle-school students, and analyzed educational effects. In this paper, we described the specification of the games and our class model that were applied in the research. Also, we analyzed changes made to computation thinking abilities, creative thinking abilities, and perceived support for programming after the programming classes. As a result, it was found that those abilities and the perceived support were increased. Additionally, we applied Havruta learning, a kind of paired learning, in the programming class, and have known that it increased the educational outcome with respect to the traditional method.

Internally, we want to find out about self-regulation, interpersonal relationship, pleasure, and desire to achieve reality. For the research, the Korea Information Society Agency utilized 568 data based on self-control and user motivation among long-term tracking data of Internet and mobile phone addiction in 2018. The SPSS window 23 version was used for data analysis, and the data collected were analyses to identify the subject's demographic characteristics. In addition, the correlation of variables between groups was investigated by analyzing dummy variables, and the results of the study were as follows. First, the addiction was slightly higher in mobile phone game groups than in social network service (SNS) groups, but in the same period of use, social network service (SNS) groups showed a higher desire for interpersonal relationships. In the desire to avoid reality, mobile phone game groups showed a higher gap than social network service (SNS) However, there was no difference between groups in terms of pleasure and desire to achieve. The results of this study indicated that the content of mobile phone use differed in factors affecting mobile phone overuse, and suggestions for follow-up research were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to design, develope, and deploy of online game content in middle school mathematics. This study analyzed related literature review, case studies, and educational game web sites for seeking better applicable design strategies. After serious discussion with experts based the design ideas, this study established its own educational game design model and it was applied to develop algebraic function lesson for middle school students. The developed content also was deployed in real classroom setting to see how students received the game contents and how. well they processed the design procedures and activities. We found that educational online game content, especially when applied to mathematics subject, can be effective in students interests and their motivations. We also observed that there were a few managerial errors such as need for detailed guidance for game, cumulative game results for later feedback, and so on. This study concluded that educational game contents should be able to widely spread out to get students' learning interests and strong motivation as well. We suggest that related research should be done toward to other subject than mathmatics and various students age groups.

  • When interacting with unknown environments, an autonomous agent needs to decide which action or action order can result in a good state and determine the transition probability based on the current state and the action taken. The traditional multiple sequential learning model requires predefined probability of the states' transition. This paper proposes a multiple sequential learning and prediction system with definition of autonomous states to enhance the automatic performance of existing AI algorithms. In sequence learning process, the sensed states are classified into several group by a set of proposed motivation filters to reduce the learning computation. In prediction process, the learning agent makes a decision based on the estimation of each state's cost to get a high payoff from the given environment. The proposed learning and prediction algorithms heightens the automatic planning of the autonomous agent for interacting with the dynamic unknown environment. This model was tested in a virtual library.

  • Primarily working on SNS(Social Network Service) platform, the SNG(Social Network Game) utilizes friends and neighbors for invitation and play. Based on the value model of HCI, this paper purports to discover how functional, hedonic, social and personal values predict the continuous usage intention and satisfaction of SNG in a smartphone. Hypothesis testing through structural equation modeling shows that hedonic and functional values affect satisfaction and intention to use of SNG while social and personal values do not. This result implies that fun and easy interface are more important to the success of SNG service than social networking motivation.

  • The purpose of the present study was to scrutinize computer games that can motivate elementary school students through their interactive "edutainment" effects. The types of elements in computer games that students find interesting as learning media and their impact were studied. The current status of Korean computer games, issues related to learning English, and methods to stimulate the motivation and interest in learning by elementary school students were explored. A computer game model for efficiently teaching English to elementary school students through a connection between computer games and education was suggested. In this model, overall games were designed with the focus on the integration of curriculum and content subjects related to learning activities. For games not to be biased toward entertainment and to have systemized learning steps, the games are composed of an introduction, presentation, practice, production and evaluation, in that order. The model suggested by this plan and composition make it possible to approach learning efficiently with entertaining games based on a systematic learning curriculum. As shown above, developing the model of educational computer games can be seen as an opportunity, which can provide amusement and interests and a broad learning experience as an additional learning method.

  • For enhancing the coverage of wireless networks and increasing the spectrum efficiency, small cell networks (SCNs) are considered to be one of the most prospective schemes. Most of the existing literature on resource allocation among non-cooperative small cell base stations (SBSs) has widely drawn close attention and there are only a small number of the cooperative ideas in SCNs. Based on the motivation, we further investigate the cooperative approach, which is formulated as a coalition formation game with power control algorithm (CFG-PC). First, we formulate the downlink sub-channel resource allocation problem in an SCN as a coalition formation game. Pareto order and utilitarian order are applied to form coalitions respectively. Second, to achieve more availability and efficiency power assignment, we expand and solve the power control using particle swarm optimization (PSO). Finally, with our proposed algorithm, each SBS can cooperatively work and eventually converge to a stable SBS partition. As far as the transmit rate of per SBS and the system rate are concerned respectively, simulation results indicate that our proposed CFG-PC has a significant advantage, relative to a classical coalition formation algorithm and the non-cooperative case.
