This study presents a model-based gain scheduling strategy for PI-based EGR controllers. The air-to-fuel ratio is used as an indirect measurement of the EGR rate. In order to cope with the nonlinearity and parameter varying characteristics of the EGR system, we proposed a static gain model of the EGR system using a new scheduling parameter. With the 810 steady-state measurements, the static gain model achieved 0.94 of R-squared value. Based on the static gain of the EGR system, the PI gains were robustly designed using quantitative feedback theory. Consequently, the gains of the PI controller are scheduled according to the static gain parameter of the EGR path in runtime. The proposed model-based gain scheduling strategy was validated through various operating conditions of engine experiments such as setpoint step responses and disturbance rejections.

This paper deals with a problem of automatic landing guidance and control ofthe longitudinal airplane motion under the wind shear turbulence. Adaptive gainscheduled PID control law is proposed in this paper. Fuzzy logic is the main part ofthe adaptive PID controller as gain scheduler. To illustrate the successful applicationof the proposed control law to the automatic landing control problem, numericalsimulation is carried out based on the longitudinal nonlinear airplane model excited bythe wind shear turbulence. The simulation results show that the automatic landingmaneuver is successfully achieved with the satisfactory performance and the gainadaptation of the control law is made adequately within the limited gains.
Two types of digital repetitive control systems are analyzed and designed to reduce the error spectrum including not only harmonic but also non-harmonic components. First, a novel gain scheduling algorithm is suggested for conventional and modified repetitive controller is scheduled to reduce the infinite norm of error in frequency domain. For this, the relative error transfer function is mewly defined as the ratio of the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system without a repetitive controller. Secondly, as an alternative of a repetitive control system with the gain scheduling, a repetitive control system with higher order repetitve function is analyzed and designed, where instead of equal weightings, weightings of the higher order repetitive function is determined in such a way that the infinite norm of relative error transfer function is minimized. To show the validities of proposed methods, computer simulation results are illustrated for a typical disk drive head positioning servo system.
Purpose: The single-flap approach (SFA) is a minimally invasive technique with limited mucoperiosteal flap elevation to gain access to the buccal/palatal aspects, thus limiting post-surgical complications. The purpose of the present study was to gain insights into the impact of the SFA over the double-flap approach (DFA) on periodontal flap treatment outcomes and patient compliance in terms of discomfort and time taken for surgical procedures. Methods: Twenty patients with persistent probing pocket depths of ≥5 mm were scheduled for the SFA (test site) and for the DFA (control site). All the clinical periodontal parameters were recorded at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. Radiographic bone level (cone-beam computed tomography) was evaluated at baseline and 6 months. Patients' postoperative pain perception and wound healing were also assessed. Results: The SFA showed a significant reduction in periodontal pocket depth, gain in clinical attachment level (CAL), and gain in bone level when compared with the DFA. The SFA substantially improved wound healing and induced less postoperative pain than the DFA. Conclusions: The SFA resulted in substantial improvement in the composite outcome measures, as shown by a reduction in pocket depth with minimal gingival recession, gain in CAL, early wound healing, less postoperative discomfort, and better patient-centered outcomes.
An automatic operation of train is executed by an automatic train operation(ATO) system. The main function of ATO system is to control train speed as well as train brake system. So that train can stop at its programed position on platform and run with passenger comfort. In this paper, the gain scheduled control is designed for speed control considering the disturbances. The simulation is executed to verify the speed control performance and to compare its performance with the conventional PI and general Fuzzy control.
The function of the automatic train operation(ATO) system is to regulate the train ride comfort during start, acceleration and deceleration and execute operation of constant speed travelling and fixed point parking. The mathematical model for the train is presented by considering unknown disturbances which consist of start resistance, travelling resistance, slope resistance, curve resistance and so on. The speed control of ATO system is designed by considering the disturbances. The simulation is executed to verify the speed control performance and compare its performance with that of a PID-type ATO control system under the disturbances. Simulation results show that the control performance of gain scheduled control for ATO system is better than that of the conventional PID controller.
An automatic train operation(ATO) system executes the operation of constant speed travelling and fixed point parking by using microprocessors instead of drivers manual operation. This paper describes the mathematical model for the train considering unknown disturbances which consist of start resistance, travelling resistance, slope resistance, curve resistance, and so on. The speed controller of ATO system is designed by considering the disturbances. The simulation is executed to verify the speed control and fixed point parking performance and to compare its performance with that of a PID-type ATO control system under disturbances. Simulation results show that the control performance of gain scheduled control scheme fur ATO system is better than that of the conventional PID controller.
Asymmetric cylinders are usually used as an actuator of active suspensions. The conventional optimal controller design does not include actuator dynamics as a state. and force controller is needed to track the desired force. But the actuator is not ideal, so performance of an active suspension system is degraded. In this paper, we take account nonlinear actuator dynamics and obtain a linear model using a feedback linearization technique then apply optimal control method. For real time application, gain-scheduling method is used. Effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulation of 1/4 car model.
