This study was conducted to identify cross compatibility with table grape and pollen characteristics by flower type in Vitis amurensis Rupr. (GW-22, GW-45, GW-56, GW-200, GW-202 and GW-300) collected in Gangwon area. Flower structure, germinability and morphology of pollen, and cross compatibility with table grape were examined. Flowers of GW-22 and GW-56 had an aborted gynoecium and five erect fdaments, and all of them was male. The percentage of pollen germination of GW-22 and GW-56 on the agar medium was 27.6-29.8%. Flowers of GW-45, GW-200, GW-202 and GW-300 had well-developed pistils and five stamens with curled filaments. The percentage of pollen germination of female plant on the agar medium was 0%. Pollen grail)s from GW-22 and GW-56 (male flower) have symmetrically distributed three furrows on their surface and each furrow contains a germ pore at the equatorial level (Tricolporated). GW-45, GW-200, GW202, and GW-300 (Female flower) produced pollen grains with no germinative structures (acolporated). In self-pollina-tion of female flowers, berries of clusters were no berry and no seed. Therefore, flower structure in V. amurensis proved to be that of other dioecious Vitis species. In cross combination of female and male flower of V. amurensis made normal seeds. In cross combination of table grape and V. amurensis of male flower made normal seeds. But, in cross combination of female flower of V. amurensis did not make seeds. Therefore, V. amurensis was cross compatible with vitis spp, and V. amurensis varieties may contribute to breeding studies of Vitis spp.
A few years from now, gravitational wave (GW) detectors of LIGO and VIRGO consortiums are expected to reach the sensitivity necessary to detect GW signals from astronomical sources. Identification of the counterparts to the GW sources in electromagnetic wave is very important, since the localization of the GW signals is going to be very poor (~1000 $deg^2$) for the first detections and the nature of the GW-emitting sources will be uncertain with the GW detection only. In this talk, we will discuss possible astronomical sources that could be responsible for the first GW signals, and outline our current efforts to do follow-up observation of GW sources in collaboration with LIGO/VIRGO groups.
The new era of multi-messenger astronomy (MMA) has arrived in 2017 with the detection of the binary neutron star merger in both gravitational wave (GW) and electromagnetic radiation (EM). Now, the new run of GW detectors are providing numerous GW events and the number GW events are expected to increase dramatically in future as the GW sensitivities improve. When the GW studies are combined with EM counterpart observations, a great synergy is expected in many areas of study such as the physical process following the compact object merger, the environment of such events (and galaxy evolution), and cosmology, Therefore, it has now become crucial to identify and characterize these GW events in optical/IR EM. In the past, we have been performing optical/NIR observation of GW events using a worldwide network of more than 10 telescopes, and are getting more actively involved in MMA of GW sources. In this talk, we will present our network of telescopes, the EM follow-up observation results of GW events including GW170817 and the O3 events in 2019, and the current issues in MMA. We will also give the future prospects of MMA, showing the forecast for the GW events and the outlook of EM MMA observations.
Recent observation of the neutron star merger event, GW170817, through both gravitational wave (GW) and electromagnetic wave (EM) observations opened a new way of exploring the universe, namely, multi-messenger astronomy (MMA). One of the keys to the success of MMA is a rapid identification of EM counterpart. We will introduce GW follow-up observation project in Korea for hunting GW EM counterpart rapidly and its strategy for prioritization of GW source host galaxy candidates. Our method relies on recent simulation results regarding plausible properties of GW source host galaxies and the low latency localization map from LIGO/Virgo. We will show a test result for both binary neutron star merger events using previous event and describe observing strategy with our facilities for GW events during the ongoing LIGO/Virgo O3 run. Finally, we report the results of optical/NIR follow-up observation of GW190425, the first neutron.

Purpose: We examined the effect of the dual EGFR/HER2 tyrosine kinase inhibitor, GW572016, on EGFR/HER2 receptor phosphorylation, inhibition of downstream signaling and radiosensitization in either an EGFR or HER2 overexpressing human breast cancer xenograft. Materials and Methods: We established SCID mice xenografts from 4 human breast cancer cell line that overexpressed EGFR or HER 2 (SUM 102, SUM 149, SUM 185, SUM 225). Two series of xenografts were established. One series was established for determining inhibition of the EGFR/HER2 receptor and downstream signaling activities by GW572016. The other series was established for determining the radiosensitization effect of GW572016. Inhibition of the receptor and downstream signaling proteins were measured by the use of immunoprecipitation and Western blotting. For determining the in vivo radiosensitization effect of GW572016, we compared tumor growth delay curves in the following four treatment arms: a) control; b) GW572016 alone; c) radiotherapy (RT) alone; d) GW572016 and RT. Results: GW572016 inhibited EGFR, HER2 receptor phosphorylation in SUM 149 and SUM 185 xenografts. In addition, the p44/42 MAPK (ERK 1/2) downstream signaling pathway was inactivated by GW572016 in the SUM 185 xenograft. In the SUM 225 xenograft, we could not observe inhibition of HER2 receptor phosphorylation by GW572016; both p44/42 MAPK (Erk1/2) and Akt downstream signal protein phosphorylation were inhibited by GW572016. GW572016 inhibited growth of the tumor xenograft of SUM 149 and SUM 185. The combination of GW572016 and RT enhanced growth inhibition greater than that with GW572016 alone or with RT alone in the SUM 149 xenograft. GW572016 appears to act as an in vivo radiosensitizer. Conclusion: GW572016 inhibited EGFR/HER2 receptor phosphorylation and downstream signaling pathway proteins. GW572016 modestly inhibited the growth of tumor in the SUM 185 xenograft and showed radiosensitization in the SUM 149 xenograft. Our results suggest that a better predictor of radiation response would be inhibition of a crucial signaling pathway than inhibition of a receptor.

In the star VPN (Virtual Private Network) topology, the traffic between the communicating two CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) VPN GW(Gateway)s nay be inefficiently transferred. Also, the Center VPN GW nav erperience the overload due to excessive packet processing overhead. As a solution to this problem, a direct tunnel can be established between the communicating two CPE VPN GWs using the IKE (Internet Key Exchange) mechanism of IPSec(IP Security). In this case, however, the tunnel establishment and management nay be complicated. In this paper, we propose a mechanism called' SVOT (Star VPN On-demand Tunnel)', which automatically establishes a direct tunnel between the communicating CPE VPN GWs based on demand. In the SVOT scheme, CPE VPN GWs determine whether it will establish a direct tunnel or not depending on the traffic information monitored. CPE VPN GW requests the information that is necessary to establishes a direct tunnel to the Center VPN GW Through a simulation, we investigate the performance of the scheme performs better than the SYST scheme with respect to scalability, traffic efficiency and overhead of Center VPN GW, while it shows similar performance to the FVST with respect to end-to-end delay and throughput.
This study was designed to examine the effects of Salicornia herbacea L. (glasswort: GW) on the lipid peroxidation and mineral levels in diabetic rats. Diabetes mellitus was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200-220 g by an injection of streptozotocin (STZ) dissolved in a citrate buffer into the tail vein at a dose of 45 mg/kg of body weight. Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN-93 recommended diet and the experimental groups were fed a modified diet containing 10% and 20% of glasswort powder for 4 weeks. The experimental groups were divided into 6 groups which consisted of normal (N)-control group, N-GW 10% and N-GW 20% treated groups, STZ-control, STZ-GW 10% and STZ-GW 20% treated groups. The rats' liver and muscle glycogen, liver and kidney protein, cholesterol and triglyceride (TG) in liver, malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver and kidney values were measured, along with the hepatic of chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) content. The liver glycogen levels was significantly affected in N-GW 20% group among all the experimental groups. The liver MDA levels of the STZ-GW 10% and STZ-GW 20% groups were significantly lower than for the STZ-control group. There were significant differences between the N-control group and the STZ-control group in the hepatic of Zn levels. The hepatic of Cr levels in the N-GW 20% and STZ-GW 10% and STZ-GW 20% groups were significanly higher than for the each control groups. These results exhibited dose related effect of glasswort and it may have favorable influence on lipid peroxidation in the liver.

After first identification of electromagnetic counterpart of gravitational wave source (GW170817), era of multi-messenger astronomy has begun. For specifying coordinate, magnitude, and host galaxy information, optical follow-up observation of GW source becomes important. With following engineering run and O3 run of LIGO and VIRGO starting in March 2019, we present searching strategy for optical counterpart of GW source using KMTNet. 24 hours monitoring system and large field of view (4 square-degree) of KMTNet are advantage to discover a transient like GW event. By performing tiling observation of high probability area in GW localization map, we expect to observe early light-curve of GW optical counterpart. After identification, follow-up observation with various KMTNet bands and other telescopes like Gemini and UKIRT will also be performed. We will study collision mechanism, progenitor, and characteristics of host galaxy using observation data of GW source.
Grain size and shape are the two important components contributing to rice yield and quality. To analyze traits related to grain-shape, a total of 272 varieties derived from japonica, japonica black and Tongil-type rice accession in Korea were evaluated in this study. The traits, grain length (GL), grain width (GW), grain thickness (GT), length to width ratio (RLW), and 1000-grain weight (TGW) were measured and replicated 10 times. Genes (GW2, GS3, qGL3, qSW5, GS5, TGW6, GW7, and GW8) related to grain-shape were validated in the accessions using specific DNA marker sets. K-mean clustering of the accession based on phenotypic data revealed three groups: group 1 was classified by GW and GT and included most of japonica type, group 2 was classified by RLW and GL reached a medium size and possessed a half spindle-shaped type, and group 3 was classified by TGW, reached a long size and possessed a semi-round shape. In validation tests using the marker sets, both gw2 and tgw6 were validated in less than 1% of the tested accessions and two allelic types, qgl3 and gw8, were only verified in Tongil-type accessions. For GW8 and GW2, any different amplicons were not amplified in any japonica or Tongil-type accessions, respectively. In order to suggest the representative grain-shape gene combinations for each ecotype, the allelic combinations were evaluated by PCR analysis. Cj1 and 2 in japonica (Cj1-7), Cj_b1 and 2 in japonica-black (Cj_b1-3), and CT3 in Tongil-type (CT1-13) turned out to be the dominant combination in each ecotype, respectively. In addition, the results revealed that introgression of four genes (gw2, gs3, qSW5, and GS5) would expand the diversity of grain shape in Korean japonica varieties. The gene combinations information could be utilized practically to understand or enhance grain shape in japonica rice breeding program.
