Prediction of rock slope failure using multiple ML algorithms

  • Slope stability analysis and prediction are of critical importance to geotechnical engineers, given the severe consequences associated with slope failure. This research endeavors to forecast the factor of safety (FOS) for slopes through the implementation of six distinct ML techniques, including back propagation neural networks (BPNN), feed-forward neural networks (FFNN), Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system (TSF), gene expression programming (GEP), and least-square support vector machine (Ls-SVM). 344 slope cases were analyzed, incorporating a variety of geometric and shear strength parameters measured through the PLAXIS software alongside several loss functions to assess the models' performance. The findings demonstrated that all models produced satisfactory results, with BPNN and GEP models proving to be the most precise, achieving an R2 of 0.86 each and MAE and MAPE rates of 0.00012 and 0.00002 and 0.005 and 0.004, respectively. A Pearson correlation and residuals statistical analysis were carried out to examine the importance of each factor in the prediction, revealing that all considered geomechanical features are significantly relevant to slope stability. However, the parameters of friction angle and slope height were found to be the most and least significant, respectively. In addition, to aid in the FOS computation for engineering challenges, a graphical user interface (GUI) for the ML-based techniques was created.

  • We discuss development of a simulator for automated manufacturing systems (AMSs) which have sophisticated automated material handling equipments and complicated work flows. The simulator is designed to satisfy the following requirements. A user should be able to easily configure or specify an AMS through a graphical user interface (GUI) and minimal data input. The user should be able to model diverse and complied control logic for automated material handling systems like automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, robot workcell systems and conveyor systems as well as complicated job flow program. Real time animation is desired. Finally, the simulator should be easily maintained and extended. To satisfy the requirements, we use an object-oriented paradigm for modeling, designing, and programming of the simulator. We use an object-oriented modeling framework to design the modeling elements library, and take the process interaction approach for scheduling processes and events. To model a user-defined diverse control logic, we also develop a script language and its interpreter. We explain design and implementation strategies. We implement the simulator using Visual C++ 4.2 and Open GL on Windows NT and the Windows95. Some modeling examples will be demonstrated.

  • 본 연구에서는 영산강 유역의 본류를 대표하는 나주지점과 황룡강 유역을 대표하는 선암지점에 대하여 물리적인 매개변수를 이용하지 않는 인공신경망 이론을 이용하여 강우-유출 과정의 비선형 모형을 개발하였다. 본 연구결과 나주지점에서는 ANN_NJ_9 모형이 선암지점에서는 ANN_SA_9 모형이 강우-유출 특성을 가장 잘 반영하였다. 또한, 본 연구에서 개발한 GUI_FFS에 대하여 기 확보된 강우 및 유출량을 적용한 결과 실측치와 예측치 간에 0.98이상의 $R^2$값을 보임으로서 향후 수자원 및 하천계획 수립과 그에 따른 운영 및 관리에 효율성을 더할 수 있을 것이라 판단된다.

인공지능 기법에 의한 최적 운항자세 선정에 관한 연구 (Study on the Selection of Optimal Operation Position Using AI Techniques)

  • 최적 운항자세 선정 기술이란 주어진 운항 배수량과 운항 선속에서 최소의 저항을 가지는 즉, 최적의 연료 소비 효율을 가지는 초기 선수흘수와 선미흘수를 제시하는 것이다. 본 논문의 주 목적은 대상선박의 유효동력 데이터를 기반으로 주어진 운항조건에서 최대의 에너지효율을 가지는 최적의 운항자세를 선정하는 프로그램 개발하는 것이다. 본 프로그램은 인공지능 기법에 의한 파이썬 기반 GUI(Graphical User Interface)로 작성되어 선주가 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 하였다. 그 과정에 있어 대상 선박 소개, 전산유체역학(CFD)을 통한 유효동력 데이터 수집, 심층학습을 사용한 유효동력 모델 학습 방법 그리고 심층신경망(DNN) 모델을 응용한 최적 운항자세 제시 프로그램을 구체적으로 설명하였다. 선박은 운항 별로 화물을 싣고 내리게 되고, 이에 화물 적재량이 변화되고 배수량이 변경된다. 선주는 배수량 별 예상 선속에 따라 최소저항을 가지는 즉, 최대의 에너지효율을 가지는 최적의 운항자세를 알고자 한다. 개발된 GUI는 해당선박의 태블릿 PC와 앱에 설치하여 최적 운항자세 선정에 활용 가능하다.

  • For the improvement of productivity, the reduction of cost and time for manufacturing is mandatory, especially in the field of electronic industry. The study is concemed with a practical means of systematic assistance to formability estimation and selection of reliable design specification for electronic sheet metal parts. The objective of this research work is to develop a simulation system which helps to analyze the target processes with the finite element method and to acquire available design data quickly and exactly and exactly. The simulation system developed in the study consists of design verification, selection of optimal combination of parameters, knowledge acquisition and graphical user interface(GUI). Design verification is automatically carried out by using the finite element method. A data base management system and nomograms are utilized for knowledge acquistion. The developed system has been applied to some major sheet metal forming operations such as flanging, embossing, bending and blanking. According to the simulated results, the validation of the target processes has been confirmed. Analysis data, estimation rules of formability and graphical representation of the analysis have been employed for the designer's understanfing and evaluation, thus providing a practical means of robot design and evaluation of formability for production electronic sheet metal parts.

소켓 및 RMI 기반 자바 메시지 전달 시스템의 구현 및 성능평가 (Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Socket and RMI based Java Message Passing Systems)

  • 본 논문은 자바 언어로 완성된 MPI(Message Passing Interface) 스펙인 MPJ(Message Passing in Java) 스펙을 준수하여 병렬 컴퓨팅 환경에서 메시지 통신 인터페이스를 제공하는 JMPI(Java Message Passing Interface) 라이브러리를 설계하고 구현하였다. 이 라이브러리는 간단하면서도 매우 편리한 GUI(Graphical User Interface) 도구를 제공하여, 사용자가 손쉽게 병렬 컴퓨팅 환경을 구성할 수 있다. 또한, 본 논문에서는 두 가지 전형적인 분산 시스템 통신 메커니즘인 소켓과 RMI(Remote Method Invocation) 방식을 이용하여 두 가지 버전의 시스템을 구현하였고, 기존의 JPVM 시스템과의 성능을 벤치마크 애플리케이션들을 통하여 컴퓨터 대수의 증가에 따른 처리 속도를 비교해 보았다. 실험 결과로는 본 논문에서 제시한 JMPI 시스템이 JPVM시스템보다 다양한 측면에서 높은 성능을 발휘한다는 것과 컴퓨터의 가장 효율적인 처리 속도는 애플리케이션에 따라 컴퓨터의 수를 증가시킨다고 해서 일정하게 처리속도가 증가하는 것이 아니라 네트워크의 트래픽을 고려하여 컴퓨터의 수를 증가시켰을 때 얻을 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. 마지막으로 컴퓨터의 수가 증가함에 따라 RMI를 사용하여 메시지를 전달하는 것이 소켓에 부속된 객체 스트림을 사용하여 메시지를 전달하는 것보다 효과적이라는 것을 알 수 있다.

Web-enabled Healthcare System for Hypertension : Hyperlink-based Inference Approach

  • In the conduct of this study, a web-enabled healthcare system for the management of hypertension was implemented through a hyperlink-based inference approach. The hyperlink-based inference platform implemented using the hypertext capacity of HTML which ensured accessibility, multimedia facilities, fast response, stability, ease of use and upgrade, and platform independency of expert systems. Many HTML documents, which are hyperlinked to each other based on expert rules, were uploaded beforehand to perform the hyperlink-based inference. The HTML documents were uploaded and maintained automatically by our proprietary tool called the Web-Based inference System (WeBIS) that supports a graphical user interface (GUI) for the input and edit of decision graphs. Nevertheless, the editing task of the decision graph using the GUI tool is a time consuming and tedious chore when the knowledge engineer must perform it manually. Accordingly, this research implemented an automatic generator of the decision graph for the management of hypertension. As a result, this research suggests a methodology for the development of Web-enabled healthcare systems using the hyperlink-based inference approach and, as an example, implements a Web-enabled healthcare system for hypertension, a platform which peformed especially well in the areas of speed and stability.

  • In recent years, researches regarding optimal placement of CCTV(Closed-circuit Television) cameras via architecture modeling has been conducted. However, for analyzing surveillance coverage through actual human movement, the application of VA(Video Analytics) function of IP(Internet Protocol) cameras has not been studied. This paper compares two methods using data captured from real-world cameras and data acquired from a virtual environment. In using real cameras, we develop GUI(Graphical User Interface) to be used as a logfile which is stored hourly and daily through VA functions and to be used commercially for placement of products inside a shop. The virtual environment was constructed to emulate an real world such as the building structure and the camera with its specifications. Moreover, suitable placement of the camera is done by recognizing obstacles and the number of people counted within the camera's range of view. This research aims to solve time and economic constraints of actual installation of surveillance cameras in real-world environment and to do feasibility study of virtual environment.

  • 본 논문에서는 플라스틱 제품의 공정 과정에서 발생하는 미성형, 이물질, 찍힘 등의 제품 불량을 검사하기 위한 비전 검사 시스템을 개발한다. 본 시스템의 검사 알고리즘은 플라스틱 제품의 곡면구조를 고려한 영상 2치화, 모폴로지 연산을 이용한 영상의 노이즈 제거 및 후보영역 구분을 위한 레이블링 기법, 최종 결함 유무 판단을 위한 영상 필터링 및 캘리브레이션(Calibration) 방법 등으로 구성된다. 또한 사용자를 고려한 GUI(Graphical User Interface) 기반의 고속 영상처리 알고리즘 개발을 통해 검사 효율 및 성능을 향상시킨다. 본 검사 시스템의 정확도, 검사 알고리즘 처리 시간 등의 평가를 통해 시스템의 유효성을 확인하였다.

Wireless safety monitoring of a water pipeline construction site using LoRa communication

  • Despite efforts to reduce unexpected accidents at confined construction sites, choking accidents continue to occur. Because of the poorly ventilated atmosphere, particularly in long, confined underground spaces, workers are subject to dangerous working conditions despite the use of artificial ventilation. Moreover, the traditional monitoring methods of using portable gas detectors place safety inspectors in direct contact with hazardous conditions. In this study, a long-range (LoRa)-based wireless safety monitoring system that features the network organization, fault-tolerant, power management, and a graphical user interface (GUI) was developed for underground construction sites. The LoRa wireless data communication system was adopted to detect hazardous gases and oxygen deficiency within a confined underground space with adjustable communication range and low power consumption. Fault tolerance based on the mapping information of the entire wireless sensor network was particularly implemented to ensure the reliable operation of the monitoring system. Moreover, a sleep mode was implemented for the efficient power management. The GUI was also developed to control the entire safety-monitoring system and to manage the measured data. The developed safety-monitoring system was validated in an indoor testing and at two full-scale water pipeline construction sites.
