  • This study reconsiders covenant theology through the relationship between law and grace. In order to do this, it first evaluates whether the Sinaitic Covenant is a covenant of grace or a covenant of works. This has been in discussion for a long period of time among theologians, yet is far from settled. Traditional studies form a wide spectrum, which can be divided into at least four major branches. First, the Sinaitic Covenant is the same as the covenant of grace. Second, the Sinaitic Covenant is the same as the covenant of works. Third, the Sinaitic Covenant forms a third, independent category of covenant. Fourth, the Sinaitic Covenant exists in harmony with the covenant of grace. Each category is summarized along with its representative proponents. Also, even though the term covenant of works is not accepted as prevalently among modern theologians, observations is made on how each category connects to and continues in modern theological discussions regarding law. Special emphasis is given to the fourth category and the fourth perspective on law with respect to how they differ from the others in viewing the relationship between law and gospel. Moreover, recognizing that the unique understanding of the fourth view grows out of a careful observation of the Biblical text, the structural similarities between the Sinaitic Covenant and other Biblical covenants are compared based on the Biblical text. Based on this comparison, it is observed that God's grace and human duty coexist in several Bible covenants including the Sinaitic and New Testament covenants. From this observation, it is proved that conditionality regarding covenant fulfillment exists in them all. This conditionality does not entail from exclusiveness on the part of God, but from the weakness on the part of humans. However, some unconditional covenants, albeit few in number, can be found in the Bible. Therefore, the difference between unconditional covenants and conditional covenants is discussed. Lastly, the proper place and role of grace in covenants is studied.

  • Mannerism style evolved from the Renaissance style adopting the concept of grace as the ideal beauty, Having its ground on Neoplatonism the main goal of mannerism art was the realization of the invisible beauty over reality. Mannerism style in dress flourished in the sixteenth century court society, when courtly manners and courtly grace became the most important qualities in social relationship. Courtiers thought that courtly grace the ideal of beauty could be realized in the cultured and studied elegance. Mannerism style in dress evolved from the process of transforming and manipulating the Renaissance look for the abstract of beauty. The clothes of Mannerism style were against the natural movement of the human body. There was a tendency of refining and polishing the whole clothing and various technical skills were experim-ented on the mannerism style. The outstanding elements of this tendency can be found in the details like ruffs fathingale padding slashing puffing and etc. Mannerism intended to reconstruct the human body artificially to express courtly grace and novelty. During that process the new pose 'figura serpentinata' which is bizarre convoluted pose with full of flexibility was created. The expression of human body became more slender with elongated legs a torso with a long neck and a tiny head. This tendency of distorting the natural body forms were reflected in the formal characteristics of Mannerism dress style which is geometrical abstr-action unnatural elongation complex disposition and control with perfect ease.

  • The currently operating NASA/GFZ Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission is designed to measure small mass changes over a large spatial scale, including the mapping of continental water storage changes and other geophysical signals in the form of monthly temporal gravity field. The European Space Agency's Gravity field and steady state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) space gravity gradiometer (SGG) mission is anticipated to determine the mean Earth gravity field with an unprecedented geoid accuracy of several cm (rms) with wavelength of 130km or longer. In this paper, we present a summary of present GRACE studies for the recovery of hydrological signals in the Amazon basin using alternative processing and filtering techniques, and local inversion to enhance the temporal and spatial resolutions by two-folds or better. Simulation studies for the potential GRACE detection of slow deformations due to Nazca-South America plate convergence and glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) signals show that these signals are at present difficult to detect without long-term data averaging and further improvement of GRACE measurement accuracy.

  • In this study, the variations of geoid measured by GRACE satellite are investigated in the 20 volcanic areas erupted since 2005, and it is recognized that a detailed geological study is necessary in using geoid data for a research of the magmatic activities under the volcano. Therefore, the relationship between the regional geoid variation obtained by GRACE satellite and the change of magma activity, is studied in Japan's Shinmoedake volcano in the Kirishima volcanic complex whose eruption in 2011 was studied in detail geologically. Throughout this study the increase of geoid from 2002 in the Shinmoedake volcanic area is confirmed to be caused by the increase of gravity under the volcano, which is well matched with geological interpretation of the continuous intrusion of basaltic magma into magma chamber during several years before the 2011 eruption. The result indicates that information of the geoid variation measured by GRACE satellite is useful for monitoring the possibility of volcanic eruption although there is a need to more study to be able to confirm the possibility.

  • This paper proposes a dynamic hybrid patching technique that can improve the performance of VOD systems by adopting the advantages of both greedy patching and grace patching to use a VOD server's limited network-I/O bandwidth. The proposed technique uses grace patching to the requests for the videos, arrival intervals of which are smaller than the size of patching window, and uses greedy patching to the rest requests. In addition, proposed patching technique expands the latest particular patching multicast into a regular multicast for a new request. In result, the patching multicast data for the new request can be the data from the beginning to the skew point of the video and the holding time of a dispatched channel can exceedingly decrease. Simulation results confirm that the proposed technique is better than grace patching in terms of defection rate and average service latency.

  • One of the error sources for microwave ranging is the instability of the oscillator that drives the microwave signals. Dual one-way ranging (DOWR) minimizes the oscillator effect by combining two one-way carrier phase signals from two transmitter/receiver instrument. The DOWR is first implemented in the GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellites. Direct evaluation of the DOWR is not possible due to its extremely high accuracy. The flight performance of the GRACE DOWR is analyzed by applying several indirect methods. Comparison with the design noise level is discussed.

  • Precise Point Positioning (PPP) has been widely used in navigation and orbit determination applications as we can obtain precise Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite orbit and clock products. Kinematic PPP, which is based on the GPS measurements only from the spaceborne GPS receiver, has some advantages for a simple precise orbit determination (POD). In this study, we developed kinematic PPP technique to estimate the orbits of GRACE-A satellite. The comparison of the mean position between the JPL's orbit product and our results showed the orbit differences 0.18 cm, 0.54 cm, and 0.98 cm in the Radial, in Along-track, and Cross-track direction respectively. In addition, we obtained the root mean square (rms) values of 4.06 cm, 3.90 cm, and 3.23 cm in the satellite coordinate components relative to the known coordinates.

  • Earth's gravity field recovery was improved after the pre-processing upgrade of the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiments (GRACE) satellite's star trackers. The star tracker measurements were filtered with a tighter low-pass filtering of 0.025Hz cutoff frequency, instead of a nominal filtering of 0.1Hz cutoff frequency. In addition, a jump removal algorithm was applied to remove discontinuities, due to direct Sun and/or Moon interventions, in the star tracker measurements. During the K-Band Ranging (KBR) calibration maneuvers, large attitude variations could be detected concurrently by both of the star trackers and the accelerometer. The misalignment angles of star trackers between the true frame and the normal frame could be determined by comparing measurements from these sensors. In this paper, new Earth' gravity field maps were obtained using above improvement. Based on comparisons to nominal Earth's gravity field maps, the new Earth's gravity field maps were found better than the nominal ones. Among the applied methods, the misalignment calibration of the star trackers had a major impact on the improvement of the new Earth's gravity field maps.
