The Characteristic Analysis of Precipitable Water Vapor According to GPS Observation Baseline Determination (GPS 관측소 기선 처리에 따른 가강수량 특성 분석)

  • In this study the GPS Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) was derived and evaluated by a radiosode measure during the winter intensive observation in Gangneung site from January 5 till February 29 in 2012. Bernise 5.0 software was used to derive the GPS data. GPS-derived PWV from Zero difference (GANG) and Single difference (GANG and DAEJ) was high variance in time and about 5 times the PWV of radiosonde. GPS post-processing has been performed from two additional IGS site (Xian Dao, Ibaraki-ken) in order to correct the absolute troposphere errors. As a result, the mean bias error (MBE) and root mean square error (RMSE) and correlation compared with radiosonde measure were 0.67 mm, 6.40 mm, and 0.93, respectively. In order to correct the relative troposphere errors from the altitudinal difference between the two GPS receivers, we calculated the GPS-derived PWV by adding the data of GPS that was installed in Gangneung-Wonju University near the Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration. In the end, the improved result showed that MBE, RMSE and correlation in comparison with radiosonde measures were 0.61 mm, 5.79 mm, and 0.93, respectively.

Evaluation of Weighted Correlator for Multipath Mitigation in GPS Receiver (GPS수신기의 다중경로 오차 제거를 위한 가중 상관기의 성능평가)

  • The effect of multipath is especially serious in urban area and sea surface where buildings and water reflect GPS signal. Multipath brings about the performance degradation on many GPS application because the presence of multipath causes the diminution of pseudorange measurement accuracy in turn position accuracy. In this paper, a multipath mitigation named weighted correlation method is implemented on software GPS receiver, in which the asymmetric correlation function is compensated by modifying the late correlation value. Asymmetry compensation is obtained as weighted sum of two correlators which have different early-late chip spaces. This structure is adopted to lessen the computation load lower keeping up performance similar to that. The performance of implemented multipath mitigation technique is evaluated using GPS signal and multipath signal generated by GPS signal generator and software GPS receiver. The test results show that the weighted correlation method gives hefter performance than the standard correlator and the narrow correlator.

  • In order to enhance public transportation and to maintain information credibility, improvement of accuracy regarding route and positional information of public transport is very significant. There have been a variety of methods using GPS to measure accuracy of location-based services. However, the researches of evaluation regarding kinematic position of linear objects measured by vehicle/kinematic GPS are still insufficient. That's why our paper aims to suggest method of evaluation accuracy on a real-time bus route surveyed by GPS by SBM(Single Buffering Method). To make it come true, we compared the findings on the static and dynamic positioning by using PP(Point Positioning), DGPS and GPS/INS integrated systems and analyzed the accuracy and error effects among them, focusing on Anyang city. Consequently, we can find out that in case of P.P. comparing positioning accuracy between RTK DGPS and GPS/INS, both of them have survey result within a margin of error of 5m. More importantly, we can evaluate positional accuracy of each GPS system based on the work provision of a public survey such as error for P.P.(14.5m, 18.1m), DGPS(16.9m, 18.5m), and GPS/INS(18.4m, 18.5m). We are expecting that proposed method in our paper can be utilized in a wide range of categories such as feasibility testing of GPS field survey and high accuracy of positioning for Bus Information System.

Evaluation of GPS and Totalstation Surveying for Facilities Mapping (시설물 현황도 작성을 위한 GPS와 토털스테이션 측량의 적용 및 성과분석)

  • This study presents the detailed methods for facilities mapping using GPS and Totalstation. From the control survey by GPS network adjustment, the level of significance fur the height value of fourth order triangulation stations used in this study was estimated about 10cm. According to the result of verification for the transformation coefficients of national coordinate, which were announced by the National Geographic Information Institute, RMSE f coordinate transformation was found out as $\pm$0.546m that can be applied to a map scale less than 1/10,000. The accuracy analysis of height determination by Totalstation for the traverse points spaced average 90m showed that RMSE came out $\pm$9mm on the basis of direct leveling, so it indicated that trigonometric leveling by Totalstation was correct comparatively. The result of accuracy analysis of GPS/RTK surveying on traverse points showed that RMSE came out $\pm$33mm in horizontal location on the basis of Totalstation's outcome and $\pm$15mm in height value on the basis of direct leveling. In the construction survey, GPS/RTK surveying is quicker and more economical than Totalstation surveying in the feasible areas of GPS surveying. but there were many impossible areas for GPS/RTK surveying by the obstacles like a building.

Shark Antenna for Vehicle TDMB and GPS Receiver (TDMB 및 GPS 수신용 전장용 샤크 안테나)

  • In this paper, a folded helical monopole antenna for TDMB receiving and a trapezoidal fractal microstrip patch antenna for GPS were designed and fabricated for the vehicle shark antenna. To minimize null which is generating toward antenna axis direction and to receive both vertical polarization and horizontal polarization for TDMB antenna, we fold 90 degree helical monopole element. GPS antenna to get wide bandwidth and gain improvement was designed an air substrate trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna. Fabricated TDMB and GPS antenna were measured for S11 and radiation pattern, and compared with a commercialized antenna. TDMB antenna shows 3 dB higher antenna gain and receiving signal strength than the commercial one. GPS antenna shows the gain of 4.31 dBi at the resonant frequency, which is $3{\sim}5\;dB$ higher gain over whole operating band and 135MHz wide bandwidth at 2:1 VSWR than the conventional ceramic antenna.

Analysis on the Orbit Accuracy of KOMPSAT-5 (다목적실용위성 5호 궤도정밀도 분석)

  • This paper describes the orbit accuracy of KOMPSAT-5, which has been in normal operations since the launch on Aug. 22, 2013. The analysis on the various GPS related data and the different methodologies for orbit estimation are carried out and compared with each other. The accuracy of precise orbit is confirmed to be 12.8cm($1{\sigma}$) on average using data from the in-flight dual frequency GPS receiver, GPS precise ephemeris, and IGS stations. In addition, the orbit estimation using single frequency GPS receiver provides the orbit solution around 2m level. And, the accuracy of orbit processing is 5m using on-board navigation solution, which has about 10m accuracy.

  • The Global Positioning System is a navigation system that has been developed by the United States for military use. Currently, many countries, including the Republic of Korea, use GPS for civilian and military uses. However, as useful as it is, GPS is vulnerable to its Jamming signal, as the strength of the signal from satellites is very weak. In this paper, a novel jamming signal detection and cancellation method is proposed when a narrow-band jamming signal is included in the GPS received signal. At the GPS receiver, the received signal is transformed to a frequency domain sample by Fast Fourier Transform. In order to suppress the Spectral Leakage, the Blackman-Harris window is used. The proposed jamming signal cancellation algorithm will find the frequency sample with maximum power and null the maximum sample in addition to some lateral samples. If the GPS receiver is designed with FFT of size 128 to 512, it is shown that 42 samples are optimal to cancel the narrow-band jamming signal.

Active Shark Antenna for the Vehicle AM/FM/TDMB/GPS Receiver (자동차용 AM/FM/TDMB/GPS 통합 능동형 샤크 안테나)

  • A vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. Omnidirectional AM antenna was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for the bandwidth achievement was designed by trapezoidal microstrip patch that has air substrate. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7 dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4 dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50 dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10 dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31 dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5 dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.

  • The users who use a combined GPS/Galileo receiver will benefit from an improved availability of the combined system and a reduced dependence on one particular positioning system. However, these users must solve the problem of an offset between the time scales of GPS and Galileo (GGTO). GGTO must be analyzed for not only a navigation system but also a timing system requesting precise time service. This paper analyzes the interoperability problem in a combined GPS/Galileo timing receiver and estimates the timing performance under various assumptions. The GPS real measurements were collected by using the commercial timing receiver from Ashtech Ltd. and the Galileo measurements were generated by a simulation software. A suitable test scenario set-up and the performance in a point of timing stability was evaluated.

Development and performance evaluation of GPS/PL simulator for UAV landing (무인항공기 착륙용 GPS/PL 시뮬레이터 설계 및 성능 평가)

  • Automatic landing performance of UAV can be enhanced by adding Pseudolite(PL) to GPS. However, it is very hard to install and operate PL with confidence because GPS satellites are moving and the landing zone are usually changeable. The coverage and accuracy of combined GPS and PL can be estimated by using simulator and the correct information is very crucial to UAV operation. In this paper, design, implementation and evaluation of GPS/PL simulator for UAV landing are given. A very realistic coverage estimation is obtained using GIS data and ray launching method with considerations of the transmitter power level, altitude of UAV, number and location of PL. The expected accuracy is estimated using DOP and NSP computed using both GPS and PL. The performance of simulator is evaluated by comparing with the results of a real GPS receiver, and the certified simulator shows the required accuracy for UAV landing can be easily met by proper installation of at least 2 PLs.
